Chapter 39: Coordinated Assault

If Austin had to describe the feeling of Awakening, it would simply be as though he was finally taking weights off his body after an intensive workout.

His Dormant ability skill had always been likened to a simple, singular thrust.

That’s why he had aimed and gone out of his way to ensure that he could maintain the force.

[Kinetic Thrust(Active): This skill allows you to produce a singular pulse of unidirectional force]

He had tried multiple times in the past to keep the force extended... it felt like trying to keep a sneeze elongated. Simply impossible.

Now that their lives were at risk of ending, he hoped that would finally help him push past his limits.

He had succeeded but he had never expected that he’d awaken.

Dale watched in stunned silence as waves of energy rolled off Austin, visibly altering his muscles and frame.

The redhead kicked off the ground and remained in the air. He was flying!!

"What?!" Dale, Gary, and Sarah asked in unison.

It was almost as though everyone around them was breaking through and unveiling hidden cards.

With that, came a frightening realization to Dale. He was now the only Dormant in his group.

That was less than ideal.

Austin soared forward with incredible speed and punched the myriapod, his gauntlets letting out a loud bang.

Whether it was his gauntlets or his Awakened skill that did it, Dale didn’t know.

All he saw was the beast fly away after being punched.

Austin was unwilling to let it go. He quickly flew after it, closing in the distance.

Trevor gave up another one of his adjectives to place one on Austin. ’Dangerous’.

Now, only the ’victorious’ adjective reminded me of the original three.

Gary groaned and stepped forward. He turned to them, "We have an Ascended on our side. Victory is ours so why should we let them have the kill? Who knows, we might have a breakthrough."

Sarah smiled brightly and skipped forward a bit. Her hair rapidly changed colors but settled on blue with yellow streaks. "You have a point. Let’s hunt."

Dale stared at the two of them, then his vision drifted past them to the two fighting the centipede.

He had always known he had gotten involved with unique people but to think that they were insane...

’How troublesome.’ He walked forward and met them.

"Be damned the consequences. Let’s do it."

Austin flew to the side of the beast, throwing out his fist.

On its side, a head sprouted out, prioritizing the growth of forciples in less than a few moments.

It was positioned such that Austin’s inertia would ensure contact, killing him.

The redhead tried to move but it was too late.

At least he thought so until a green forcefield suddenly shielded him.

It shattered the moment the centipede’s head slammed into it but it bought Austin enough time to push himself out of danger.

He skidded to a stop and turned to Gary. "Thank you."

His teammate shrugged, "If you die, that would be less than desired."

Austin smiled cheekily, his skin coated in thick sweat. He had just awakened and was already pushing himself.

They turned to the centipede only to see it surrounded by Trevor, Dale, and Sarah.

Sarah performed a roundhouse kick, coating her heels in flames. The heated melee attack slammed into a segment but did nothing.

She rapidly spun and slammed her other foot into the same segment to kick herself forward and away from the beast. freёwebnovel.com

When she landed on the ground, an ice spike shot out and stabbed the same segment.

The sudden change in temperature in that place, cracked it. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

Dale used [Embodiment of Light] and his movements turned into a blur as he jumped into the air.

He pulled Decay back, thrusting it forward with a loud bang. The cracked segment completely shattered, sending flesh flying everywhere.

The shoulder of the arm holding Decay twisted out of shape, losing all function.

From the ruined segment, a new head spurted out and the one that already existed — and was aimed at Trevor — atrophied, turning to ash.

The head rushed at him as he remained in the air.

Dale’s eyes widened as he saw mandibles form, aimed straight at him.

He tried to grip Blight to heal his shoulders but the head suddenly grew a few segments and longer legs.

A leg extended and met the blade, knocking it out of his hand.

He only had one weapon in his non-functioning hand, was free-falling, and had a blood-hungry centipede closing in on him.

Dale didn’t even have the time to think of enough curses to express his frustration.

Without hesitation, he spun his body and used the momentum to toss Decay at the mandibles of the beast.

The centipede gripped the blade with its mouth, swallowing it whole.

Dale had survived but at the cost of his weapon. He couldn’t complain though.

He could always get new weapons if he was alive... the same didn’t apply for the reverse.

Barely landing on his feet, Dale quickly jumped out of the way barely avoiding the mandibles of the beast.

The centipede tried to continue its assault but Sarah, Trevor, and Austin were on it.

Dale quickly picked Blight from the ground and used [Embodiment of Light]. His shoulder twisted back in place and the pain finally subsided.

By then, his skin was unhealthily pale. The effects of the weapon skill were already starting to catch up with him.

Gary slammed into Dale, pushing him out of the way as the centipede dug its claws into where they once were.

"You good?" He asked Dale and the latter nodded.

"Yes... I’m good." His teammate nodded and stood up, charging back at the beast.

Dale looked at the four of them as they faced the beast. He couldn’t be holding them back.

Gripping Blight, he decided to wait for an opening. He didn’t have to wait for long.

Trevor spoke slowly, "Falter!" And the centipede stumbled a bit, its wound not closing up immediately.

He pulled the white blade back and the world around him seemed to slow to a crawl.

Just because Blight had never been used for a pulse didn’t mean that it couldn’t.

A small white sphere materialized over the tip of the blade and he thrust it forward into the wound.
