Chapter 408: Chapter 406: Master Bian Knelt
Bian Hongxuan wore an arrogant expression, looking down on everyone.
He strode confidently to the front of the cage. His cold gaze swept over the experts from the Purple Wind Clan as he said flatly, "What are you standing around for? Can’t you see that I am about to enter? Why haven’t you taken down this Protective Array?"
Unlike Artifact Refiners, Alchemists knew next to nothing about Arrays.
Naturally, he couldn’t break through the Array himself.
The corners of the Purple Wind Clan experts’ eyes twitched, but given Bian Hongxuan’s status, they didn’t dare to lash out.
They immediately dissipated a portion of the Array.
Bian Hongxuan looked at them haughtily. "After I go in, reactivate the Array to prevent the things inside from escaping."
"Master Bian, once this Array is reactivated, it will take us at least ten breaths to shut it down again. If you run into any trouble inside, I’m afraid we won’t be able to rescue you in time!" a Union Palace Realm elder of the Purple Wind Clan kindly reminded him.
Bian Hongxuan snorted coldly. "When I make a move, it’s foolproof. Why would I possibly need you to rescue me?"
"This..."
The Purple Wind Clan elder hesitated, looking toward the Purple Wind Clan Leader and Zhao Hongluan.
The Purple Wind Clan Leader looked at Bian Hongxuan seriously and confirmed, "Master Bian, this is no small matter. If the Array is off, we can help you immediately if anything unexpected happens. But if it’s on, even I would need ten breaths to get through..."
Zhao Hongluan also said with some concern, "Master Bian, perhaps we should leave the Array off?"
"Hmph!"
Bian Hongxuan shot them an indifferent glance and said impatiently, "If you don’t trust me, I can just turn around and leave!"
Everyone was speechless. "..."
’Damn it!’
’We’re just looking out for you, you know? Do you have to be so ungrateful?’
The Purple Wind Clan Leader was also somewhat displeased. He said flatly, "Since Master Bian has decided, then do as he says!"
"Yes!"
The Purple Wind Clan experts nodded. After Bian Hongxuan stepped into the cage, they immediately activated the restraining Array.
SWOOSH! SWOOSH! SWOOSH!
Streaks of blue light shot toward the sky like bolts of silk, forming a great blue net that enveloped the cage. Bathed in the faint blue glow, Bian Hongxuan straightened his clothes and stepped into the cage, looking all high and mighty.
Outside the cage, the Black Emperor said with a grin, "Jiang Chen, you’re pretty wicked! You know what their situation is, yet you didn’t stop that old fool?"
Jiang Chen rolled his eyes. "I already warned him, but he refused to believe me. What could I do?"
"Hehe, now we’ve got a good show to watch!" the Black Emperor chuckled.
Nearby, Wuu Rui listened to Jiang Chen and the Black Emperor’s conversation, looking completely baffled. "Younger Brother Jiang, do you really think Master Bian can’t cure the two people inside?"
"Cure them?"
Jiang Chen paused for a moment, then smiled confidently. "He can’t."
"Er..."
Wuu Rui scratched his head, completely puzzled. "He can’t? But Master Bian is a distinguished Fourth-Grade Alchemist. How could there be an ailment he can’t treat?"
Jiang Chen didn’t answer him. Amid everyone’s confused gazes, he walked forward and stood before the cage.
With his hands behind his back, he waited quietly.
「Time passed quietly...」
Bian Hongxuan had been inside the cage for a full half-incense stick’s worth of time when a blood-curdling scream suddenly erupted from within.
"AARGH..."
It was Bian Hongxuan’s voice.
The door to the cage was violently thrown open. Bian Hongxuan, covered in blood, was forcefully hurled out. He crashed into the Protective Array with a BANG, shattering the sharp blue icicles that covered it on impact.
Bian Hongxuan spat out a mouthful of blood, his face deathly pale.
His eyes were filled with terror as he yelled, "Let me out! Quick, let me out!"
ROAR! ROAR!
Two resounding, earth-shaking roars rang out as two figures suddenly shot out from the cage.
It was a man and a woman.
The man was handsome, and the woman was beautiful.
However...
They were now like wild beasts. Their eyes swirled with crimson light, and low, guttural growls rumbled from their throats. Like two starving wolves that had spotted their prey, they charged toward Bian Hongxuan.
"No, don’t come any closer..." Bian Hongxuan’s expression changed drastically as he continuously deployed defensive measures.
But the man and woman were simply too powerful. Under their relentless assault, Bian Hongxuan’s defenses were as fragile as tofu.
They were torn apart instantly.
The terrifying attacks landed on Bian Hongxuan one after another.
He screamed repeatedly, all of his previous arrogance and condescension gone. "Help... Save me..."
"This is bad! Turn off the Array, quickly!" the Purple Wind Clan Leader’s expression changed abruptly as he shouted.
"Yes!"
The experts of the Purple Wind Clan hastily tried to deactivate the Array.
But the entire process would take a full ten breaths.
Looking at Bian Hongxuan’s condition, it seemed he wouldn’t even last three breaths!
Bian Hongxuan’s face was filled with despair. "Save me! I’m begging you, please save me..."
RIP...
As the man and woman tore at him, Bian Hongxuan’s battle armor was ripped apart. Their crimson, beast-like eyes stared at him. They bared their two rows of perfectly white teeth, which glinted with a frightening light.
Bian Hongxuan was scared out of his wits. "Hurry up and save me!"
At this very moment, Bian Hongxuan was on the verge of a mental breakdown, filled with immense regret. ’If I had known this would happen, I wouldn’t have ignored Jiang Chen’s warning.’
’Why did I have to show off?’
’Why did I insist on keeping the Array active?’
’The regret was eating him alive!’
Bian Hongxuan’s despairing gaze fell on Jiang Chen, who was standing in front of the Array. He quickly shouted, "Jiang Chen, no... Young Master Jiang, save me! I’m begging you, please save me..."
Jiang Chen crossed his arms, a smirk playing on his lips. "Master Bian, what seems to be the problem? Didn’t you just say I don’t know shit? Didn’t you say I’m just all brawn, completely clueless when it comes to Alchemy and healing, and that it would be a cinch for you to handle? Why are you begging me now?"
Bian Hongxuan’s previous attitude had been absolutely vile.
He hadn’t shown him an ounce of respect.
Naturally, Jiang Chen wasn’t about to give him any face either.
Bian Hongxuan screamed, "I was wrong, Young Master Jiang! I was truly wrong! Please save me!"
"I can’t hear you!" Jiang Chen said playfully.
Bian Hongxuan’s expression shifted repeatedly. Seeing the frenzied man and woman pouncing at him again, he was so terrified that he dropped to his knees with a THUD and shouted, "Young Master Jiang, I was insolent before! I was blind and failed to recognize your greatness! It was all my fault! I only ask for your forgiveness! Please, save me now!"
The corners of Jiang Chen’s mouth lifted into a slight smile.
His calm gaze fell upon Bian Hongxuan as he said nonchalantly, "Alright. Seeing as you’re so sincere, I’ll help you out."
It all happened in a flash!
Jiang Chen pressed his palm against the Protective Array. Golden runes poured from his hand, slithering across the Protective Array like nimble loaches. As the golden runes swam across, a large opening was torn directly in the Array before him.
Jiang Chen reached out and, just before the man and woman could grab Bian Hongxuan, yanked him out from within the Array.
THUD!
Caught off guard, Bian Hongxuan landed face-first and ate a mouthful of dirt.
WHOOSH... WHOOSH...
Two whooshes cut through the air from inside the Array. Jiang Chen’s expression darkened, and he punched out with both fists simultaneously. With two thuds, he sent the two figures flying back into the cage.
Jiang Chen brought his outstretched hands together and shouted softly, "Close!"
BOOM!
The Array was restored to its original state.
The entire sequence of actions was as smooth as flowing water, happening in an instant that left everyone unable to react...
The torn opening in the Array had closed as if it were never there.
