Chapter 60: A Witch (1)
Beckett laid his gaze on Luellen, who was in a red sweater dress and black tights. The tights were thick and soft, which made Sydney stay curled up on her lap. He pointed out her clothes. "You go to your office dressed like that?"
"No..." Luellen laughed, realizing she had changed her clothes as soon as she gained access to her dedicated space in the house. She smiled at Beckett. "Will you believe me if I say something like... I can build a portal from your house to mine? That’s how I can change clothes like I have my closet with me." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"Okay." Beckett laughed, but he quickly reined it in. He rubbed his abdomen. "I wish I could portal my wounds away, too..."
Luellen looked at him and brought down Sydney. She got up and sat on the hammock Beckett had settled on. Her palms pressed together, and her lips curled in a tight smile.
She said, "Beckett, I have stronger smelling salts for you. Do you want to try it?"
Beckett narrowed his gaze at her. "Those aren’t smelling salts, young lady. What are they really? If you don’t lie to me, I’ll take it."
"...they’re vitality potions. They just come in the form of perfumes..." Luellen combed through her hair. "You’re in so much pain... while I can recover so fast because of them. I just want to share them with you. Leander might get angry if I take something like this, so I don’t let him know..."
"Vitality potions? What are you? A video game merchant?" Beckett chuckled, shaking his head. He then reached out his hand. "Let me be graced by your video game goods."
Luellen produced an advanced healing perfume. She still needed to have a higher level for the next size. Since the healing efficacy was better, she figured it could help Beckett with his pain. The minor healing could only make him comfortable.
After receiving the perfume, Beckett sprayed it on his wrist to smell it. The burning pain receded, making him comfortable. However, he still winced when he put pressure on it. It was just that... this was the best he had felt since his car crash.
He turned to Luellen and pressed the bottle against his chest. "Can I keep this one? I won’t let Andy see it, I swear!"
"It’s single-use, Beckett. Use it all up before it vanishes." Luellen chuckled. It even made Beckett lift his shirt and apply it directly to his abdomen. free𝑤ebnovel.com
"Such a shame. I could have tried not to..."
Beckett wanted to say more, but he felt something happening. He emptied the perfume directly on his wound. The thick gauze pad even absorbed the reddish mist. The bottle vanished from his hand, but that wasn’t the thing that froze him.
Luellen grew apprehensive at the sight. She gasped sharply and scooted to face Beckett. "W-What’s wrong? Did it hurt? Do you feel sick?"
Beckett slowly moved and peeled the cover of his wound. Both of them stared at the skin, watching how the wound vanished. Beckett rubbed the area, still flinching at the tenderness. However, it only felt like he was touching a bruise. The reddish mist didn’t leave any cuts to bleed or get infected.
He turned to Luellen, who froze.
The maiden quickly drew out her extra perfume and examined it. A pop-up tip box showed up when she stared at it. Healing perfumes were supposed to be applied directly to the wounds. An advanced healing perfume could get rid of bleeding and fatal wounds like stabs and long lacerations.
Thinking about it, she sprayed Leander’s special elixir perfume—the one from the Red Hearts Shop—on Beckett’s wound directly that night. However, because his body was crashing, the perfume healed the failing organs rather than the deep wound. It was even a testament to a healing perfume’s power. Should she even doubt what happened before her eyes?
Her jaw dropped. Luellen then looked at Beckett. "I... I should have sprayed it on your wound the first time! I’m so sorry! I didn’t know!"
"We’re both fucked...!" Beckett laughed without pain for the first time. He rubbed his supposed wounded area, only feeling a slight sting as if the tissues inside were still healing. "Leander had a doctor come every three days to check on me. How are we supposed to explain this to him? The doctor’s coming later in the evening!"
"Oh, no..." Luellen covered her face with her hands. However, she still laughed with tears in her eyes. "I’m so happy your wound is gone now! But! But what are we going to do? Hahahaha!"
Beckett licked his teeth as he tried to think of a way. He then turned to Luellen. "Hey, hey, why don’t you stab me so he has something to look at?"
Luellen’s smile froze. She pinched Beckett’s shoulder so hard the man shrieked. "No way! You stab yourself!"
All the while, Sydney only yawned and curled tighter.
...
"What do you mean, you’re not...? Okay. You can proceed tomorrow."
Leander ended his phone call. He leaned against his car seat. He just parked outside their villa when he received the doctor’s call. A deep sigh came from him as he closed his eyes.
The CEO clocked out early today to catch the doctor. The doctor was supposed to check on Beckett and Luellen that evening, but the doctor cancelled for some reason. Leander could only think that it was a bit too convenient for Beckett, who loved escaping medical matters. Did his brother beg the doctor not to come? How did Beckett know the doctor’s number?
A laugh soon escaped Leander’s mouth. His brother remained energetic despite his almost vegetative state. His fiancée, who was just as unhealthy, had also woken up from her coma. The doctors declared her brain-dead days ago, but the pushback was strong.
They could only wait for her to wake up, which she did.
"How many more close calls can I still count on?" Leander exhaled and hung his head, his arm bracing against the wheel. "God, don’t let it run out..."
After breathing and almost laughing himself to tears, Leander checked his call history and dialed another number. He sniffed to clear his nose, feeling the pain from the earlier impact. However, he brushed it off.
The other end picked up, and Leander spoke with his usual tone, "Dad, I called as soon as I got off the call with the doctor. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t be able to... Oh, it was you...? Hmmm... I figured Beckett wasn’t ready to get dragged back to the hospital."
"Never mind that. What is this wife I hear about? First, you hid the fact that you broke your engagement with Valerie. Now, you hide this? Do you hate me so much that you got married while I’m on a honeymoon with Bridget?"
"No, Dad. I’ll explain after you get home. But don’t get angry. There’s no wedding yet—not even an engagement party. I will wait for you."
"Ahhhh... what?"
"I didn’t arrange the marriage. She volunteered. I took it."
