Wen Yuzhi dared to take the risk because he had not sensed any malice at all from Chong Fengxue and Chong Fengshuang, the twin siblings.
The air around both of them felt clean, and their eyes were clear as well. They did not look like bad people harboring evil intentions.
Of course, that alone was not enough for Wen Yuzhi to make up his mind so easily.
What truly gave him the confidence to make that decision—was his mental power.
After waking up, Wen Yuzhi realized that his mental power seemed to have grown quite a bit again.
When he released it, the range it could cover had also become much wider than before.
While he had been talking to the siblings, Wen Yuzhi had already quietly released several mental-power butterflies to scout the surrounding area.
Because Wen Yuzhi’s appearance was so deceptively harmless, and because the fluctuations from that bit of mental power were so faint, Chong Fengxue and Chong Fengshuang had failed to notice anything unusual even after the butterflies had already flown out.
They did not know that right under their noses, Wen Yuzhi had already investigated the situation inside their base.
Through the information the butterflies brought back, Wen Yuzhi learned that the place they were in now was inside an underground structure.
The building was very large, with passages stretching in all directions, divided into many different rooms. And inside those rooms, Wen Yuzhi saw that quite a few people were living here.
Their dress and mannerisms were all very similar to Chong Fengxue and Chong Fengshuang’s, so they were probably natives of this planet too.
He just did not know why they were living underground...
Maybe it was some local custom?
Wen Yuzhi was not entirely sure, but he kept guiding the butterflies to continue exploring the surrounding area.
Suddenly, one of the butterflies seemed to find a rather unusual room.
This room was obviously different from the other living quarters. There were a great many bones and medicinal herbs inside.
At the sudden sight of that huge pile of bones, Wen Yuzhi’s heart tensed at once.
But when he looked more carefully, he found that they were almost all animal bones. There were no Saint Clan or human remains among them, and only then did he relax a little.
At the innermost part of the room sat an old man with a very straight back. In his hands was a metal badge, which he was carefully wiping with a cloth.
Clearly, he treasured that object very much.
Wen Yuzhi observed quietly for a while. Seeing that the old man was only sitting there the whole time, stroking that metal badge without doing anything unusual, he decided to leave.
But just as he was about to withdraw his mental power, the old man, who had been silent until now, lifted his head and looked straight toward the place where the butterfly was hidden.
“Since you’re already here, why the rush to leave?”
“!!!”
Wen Yuzhi immediately pulled back all the mental power he had released.
But thinking of that old man’s calm, indifferent gaze just now, Wen Yuzhi could be certain of one thing—
His mental power had already been discovered by the other party!
Wen Yuzhi had not expected that in a place like this, there would actually be someone whose mental-power rank was even higher than his.
He lowered his head and could not help beginning to think. His attempt to scout this place with mental power had already been exposed. If things turned bad in a little while, how exactly should he get away?
To tell the truth, Wen Yuzhi was not all that panicked.
He had just inspected the situation inside this underground structure. There were about a hundred people living here, and they were scattered all over the place. Using mental power to hold them back would not be a problem.
And back on the warship, he had already practiced on that male researcher and Milne.
Wen Yuzhi was confident that aside from that old man, who might be troublesome, he could make everyone else lose the ability to fight by destroying their mental seas.
While Wen Yuzhi sat there with his head lowered in thought, what Chong Fengshuang saw was simply that the little heir who had been talking suddenly went quiet.
Quiet as he was, he still looked good, but seeing Wen Yuzhi’s somewhat pale face, Chong Fengshuang turned and took a coat out of the wardrobe.
“This is something Brother Yan used to wear. It gets very cold here at night. You’re wearing too little—you’ll freeze.”
Wen Yuzhi was still wearing that white robe that looked like sleepwear. Back on the warship it had been fine, since warships usually had a constant-temperature system. But underground here, that outfit looked a little too thin.
Chong Fengshuang had thought it through very carefully.
Wen Yuzhi glanced at the clothes being handed to him. It was a coat that looked like part of a military uniform.
Judging by the size, it seemed meant for a boy of around fourteen or fifteen.
When he put it on, he found that even the hem was a little too long.
Clearly, the owner had been rather tall, and even the clothes were longer than what most people the same age would wear.
Wen Yuzhi walked over to the mirror and took a look. He had already folded the overly long sleeves back twice. Underneath, he still had on that long white robe, and on his feet—
The boots had also been dug out of the wardrobe by Chong Fengshuang.
Apparently they were brand new, never worn before.
They were a little too big on Wen Yuzhi, but with the tops tied tight, even if they definitely would not be comfortable to walk in, they were still better than nothing.
And after Wen Yuzhi changed into the outfit, Chong Fengshuang had been quietly looking him over from the side the whole time.
The silver-haired, gold-eyed boy had already been beautiful to begin with. Yet on him, the slightly oversized outfit felt not the least bit out of place. Instead, the black-and-gold coat’s cold, solemn look added a crisp, restrained severity to Wen Yuzhi’s overly delicate features.
Chong Fengshuang suddenly found it hard to look away.
Even Chong Fengxue had to admit that this little heir had an exceptionally fine face.
And just as the siblings were each thinking their own thoughts, someone else arrived at the doorway.
He did not come in, only stood outside and called, “Axue, Ashuang, Uncle Chong says to bring this guest over.”
He had come.
Wen Yuzhi was already mentally prepared for this.
He followed Chong Fengxue and Chong Fengshuang to the very room the butterfly had just explored.
The old man was still seated where he had been before, except now there was a low tea table in front of him with tea already poured and some pastries set out.
“Uncle Chong.”
The moment they entered, Chong Fengxue and Chong Fengshuang respectfully greeted the old man.
Uncle Chong?
So he had the surname Chong too?
A flicker of surprise passed through Wen Yuzhi’s eyes.
Knowing that Wen Yuzhi probably did not understand much about this place, Chong Fengshuang leaned closer and whispered near his ear, “My sister and I were both adopted by Uncle Chong. A lot of the people here were raised by Uncle Chong too.”
That was a very important piece of information.
It sounded as though this Uncle Chong held a very high position here.
Wen Yuzhi quietly studied him.
Uncle Chong naturally sensed Wen Yuzhi’s gaze landing on him as well, but he did not mind. In the same flat tone, he merely indicated that they could sit down.
“Come in and sit. The tea is already brewed. If you wait any longer, it’ll go cold.”
Chong Fengxue and Chong Fengshuang each sat down beside Uncle Chong, while Wen Yuzhi sat opposite them. A low tea table separated the two sides, the boundary between them clear.
After sitting down, Wen Yuzhi cautiously chose not to touch the tea or food on the table. He only thanked them first.
“Thank you for saving me.”
“You were lucky. That escape pod had already come apart, and yet you still survived perfectly fine.”
Uncle Chong’s voice was very hoarse, as though his vocal cords had once suffered some kind of injury.
And when he lifted his head, Wen Yuzhi accidentally caught sight of an incredibly vicious scar on Uncle Chong’s neck. The wound almost seemed to run all the way across it. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
It was easy to imagine just how severe the injury must have been when it first appeared.
Even now, the mark left by that sharp blade remained there, forming a very deep scar.
Seeing Wen Yuzhi’s gaze fall on his neck, Uncle Chong’s expression remained calm.
“Back then, I was lucky too. I crawled out alive from a pile of corpses, and this scar was what got left behind on my neck.”
Wen Yuzhi fell silent for a moment. He was curious, but he did not keep pressing the matter. Instead, with the tone of someone trying to negotiate, he got straight to the point.
“I want to go back and take a look at the place where the escape pod crashed.”
Just as Uncle Chong was about to say something, Chong Fengxue leaned over and whispered something in his ear.
Wen Yuzhi could feel it—after Chong Fengxue finished, the way Uncle Chong looked at him carried both surprise and a kind of indescribable complexity.
“You said you can heal injuries?”
“Yes. They just saw it themselves.”
By “they,” Wen Yuzhi meant Chong Fengxue and Chong Fengshuang.
The siblings nodded without hesitation as well, confirming that Wen Yuzhi was telling the truth.
“We saw it with our own eyes.”
At that, Uncle Chong pondered for a while before slowly saying, “I won’t ask about your background. Everyone who comes to Blackrock Star has reasons they cannot help.”
“I’ll only ask you one thing. Are you connected to those people from Polaris?”
Polaris?
This was the second time Wen Yuzhi had heard that name.
Back on the warship, he had already heard Milne mention Polaris, and Milne’s ID badge had also borne the words Polaris Life Research Institute.
But as for what that name actually represented, Wen Yuzhi knew nothing at all.
So he shook his head.
Uncle Chong, however, fixed him with a cold stare. “Are you sure you don’t know? The clothes you’re wearing are what they prepare for their experimental subjects.”
Wen Yuzhi had been sitting very straight the whole time, with his hands resting on his knees. Hearing that, he lowered his eyes and touched the white robe he was still wearing underneath.
“I don’t know.” Wen Yuzhi pressed his lips together. “I was taken onto a strange warship before this. When I woke up, I was already wearing these clothes.”
“So you escaped from them?” Uncle Chong asked.
Wen Yuzhi did not deny it, but he also said, “They kidnapped me. I just want to go home.”
“If possible, I’d like to borrow a light-brain from you to contact my family.”
Facing Uncle Chong’s probing gaze, Wen Yuzhi did not avoid it. His eyes remained calm, without the slightest sign of concealed panic.
And when he made the request, his attitude was sincere.
It was obvious that the little heir in front of him had been raised with very good manners. Even his every movement could be called proper and refined.
If he really had been sent by those people, then the price they had paid for such a performance would have been no small thing.
Uncle Chong slowly lifted his tea and took a sip. Only after setting the cup down did he say, “There are no light-brains here.”
Wen Yuzhi froze.
He had not expected there to be no light-brains here.
Chong Fengshuang explained on his own, “There’s a magnetic interference field around Blackrock Star. No electronic device works here.”
No matter how advanced a light-brain was, once it came here, it would immediately lose signal and turn into little more than scrap.
This was the first time Wen Yuzhi had ever come to such a “primitive” place.
He wanted to contact the Saint Clan, but clearly, with the crude conditions here, there was no way to make that happen for now.
Even Chong Fengshuang—who had ◈ Nоvеlіgһт ◈ (Continue reading) been trying to stop his sister earlier and urging her to phrase things more gently—said frankly, “If you want to contact your family from here, it’ll probably be very hard. This place has basically lost all connection with the outside world.”
There was one more thing Chong Fengshuang did not say.
And that was that Wen Yuzhi’s family would probably never find this place. And even if they did, it would still be very hard for them to take him away.
Blackrock Star, as it existed now, was like one enormous prison camp. Of those who came here, almost none left alive.
But Wen Yuzhi believed the Saint Clan would definitely come for him.
“I trust my dad.”
That was what Wen Yuzhi said.
Without revealing anything on his face, Uncle Chong asked, “You and your family are very close?”
“Mm.” Wen Yuzhi nodded. “If I’ve gone missing, they must be very worried. That’s why I wanted to see if I could contact them as soon as possible.”
It was just that...
Light-brains could not be used here, so for the time being, he had no way to reach Dad.
Wen Yuzhi did feel a little disappointed about that.
And hearing this, something thoughtful flickered in Uncle Chong’s eyes.
But he did not reveal that emotion on his face right away.
He only said, “The hunting party will be passing that place tomorrow. When the time comes, Ashuang and Axue, you two go with him.”
At once, Chong Fengxue and Chong Fengshuang answered in agreement.
After Chong Fengshuang led Wen Yuzhi out, Chong Fengxue asked Uncle Chong curiously, “Uncle Chong thinks there’s nothing wrong with him?”
In a calm voice, Uncle Chong said, “Sending a child here doesn’t sound like that side’s style. Besides...”
This child was far too unusual...
Silver hair and golden eyes were not something one saw often.
