Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Congratulations on Scoring an Eldest Grandson
"Who was that?" Claire Lawrence asked, noticing the look on Yvonne Sutton’s face.
Yvonne Sutton pulled her phone away from her ear. "Unknown number, unknown person."
As she spoke, she hung up and then blocked the number.
Claire sat down next to her and put an arm around her. "You see? It doesn’t matter if you want to draw a line in the sand with them; they won’t let you go. People like that prey on the weak and fear the strong. If you take one step back, they’ll see you as a pushover. They won’t let you go—they’ll just get worse."
Yvonne shook her head. "I still don’t like getting tangled up with mad dogs. Of course, if they provoke me again, I’ll hit back hard."
Yvonne stayed with Claire for another night. The next day, before leaving, she made a special trip to the set to apologize to Director Sherman again. After all, it was an undeniable fact that the incident with her, Claire, and Monica Lynch had increased the crew’s workload.
Director Sherman took a drag from his cigarette and waved a hand at her. "I should be thanking you. You helped me preserve my reputation in my later years."
Yvonne was confused. "Huh?"
"Those investors... one day they want to add this actor, the next day that one. Today this actor needs more scenes, tomorrow that actor needs more scenes. They drove my screenwriter away ages ago. Then they hired a new one, but his skills are seriously lacking. He’s completely butchered the script I was originally so excited about. Do you know what the script in my hands looked like to me those past few days? A pile of shit. I used this incident as an opportunity to fire all those actors they shoehorned in who have zero acting ability. I also hired back my original screenwriter. My set is finally clean."
Director Sherman said it all in one breath, looking genuinely happy and relieved.
Yvonne smiled. "Hearing you say that, Director Sherman, puts my mind at ease."
Director Sherman glanced toward where Claire Lawrence was. "Her acting is good, but there’s no denying she’s getting older. It’s not easy to become a huge star at her age."
"She just wants to act well. She’s not thinking about all that."
"An actor must be down-to-earth, taking it one step at a time."
"Yes, I’ll be sure to pass on your words to her."
"By the way, a friend of mine has a production that’s about to start filming. They’re looking for actors right now. When she wraps up here in a couple of days, have her go for an audition."
A delighted expression appeared on Yvonne’s face. "That’s wonderful! Thank you, Director Sherman."
Just last night, Claire had been worrying about her next job.
It was already afternoon by the time she returned to the villa.
The florist saw her and came over, holding three large bouquets of roses. She explained that she hadn’t made any deliveries for the past three days since she saw Yvonne wasn’t home.
"Let me carry them to your house for you." The florist was a petite young woman in her twenties, but she was a nimble worker.
Yvonne took them from her. "No need, I can carry them myself."
"Mrs. Shaw, you’re different from the other wives who live here," the owner said in a low voice.
"How so?"
"You smile at everyone and you’re always good-tempered. Talking with you feels like a refreshing spring breeze. You don’t make us feel, uh, a sense of class difference." freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Yvonne couldn’t help but laugh. "I’ll take that as a compliment, then. Thank you."
As she entered the gate carrying the flowers, the security guard asked why he hadn’t seen Wyatt Shaw these past few days.
"He’s on a business trip."
The security guard leaned on the windowsill and told her, "I braised some beef using the method he taught me. It was delicious!"
"Right?"
"My colleague was on duty that night. He said there was some trouble over at your place. Is everything okay?"
He was talking about the night Vincent Reed got drunk and caused a scene in front of her door, which happened to be when Wyatt was away on his trip.
"It was nothing. Oh, but please don’t mention this to Wyatt."
The security guard nodded. "If you have any more trouble, call us right away. We always have someone on duty here."
"Okay, thank you."
Entering the residential complex, Yvonne inhaled the scent of the roses, feeling very cheerful.
But just as she reached her front door, the gate of the house opposite opened, and a furious Wendy Winters stormed toward her.
"Yvonne Sutton, you’re the one who posted those photos and videos online, aren’t you? Did you hire someone to spy on me? What the hell do you want? Is it because I stole Vincent Reed from you, so you hate me and want revenge? Why can’t you just leave me alone? I’m going to be ruined because of you, are you happy now?"
Wendy Winters was practically screaming hysterically.
Yvonne frowned. "First of all, I didn’t hire anyone to spy on you; I’m not that bored. Secondly, you didn’t steal Vincent Reed from me; I’m the one who dumped him. And finally, it’s not that I won’t leave you alone, it’s that you tried to set me up first. I was just fighting back."
After speaking, Yvonne started to walk toward her house, but Wendy rushed forward, grabbed the heads of the roses, and yanked them violently. The three bouquets fell to the ground, scattering petals everywhere.
"Sending yourself flowers? Are you that desperate for love? Heh, I bet Wyatt Shaw just married you to be a decoration. Of course he won’t give you love! He couldn’t possibly love you, absolutely impossible!"
Yvonne glanced at the flowers on the ground, then looked up at Wendy, an amused expression on her face.
"So you’re not this triggered because I used to be Vincent Reed’s girlfriend. It’s because I married Wyatt Shaw—the same Wyatt Shaw you once confessed to, but who rejected you. Right?"
"What’s there to be so smug about? There’ll be a time for you to cry later."
"Heh, Monica Lynch said the same thing to me. But what can you do? I’m the one who married Wyatt Shaw. Whether I end up crying later or not, at least you guys don’t even have the chance to."
"You!"
Wendy was clearly struck a nerve, and she started frantically stomping on the roses on the ground.
Yvonne frowned slightly and looked up to see Mrs. Reed approaching with a cold expression. Ms. Young followed behind her, carrying two large bags of things, likely supplements for Wendy.
Seeing the two of them, a sharp look appeared on Mrs. Reed’s face. She immediately quickened her pace, apparently intending to help Wendy deal with Yvonne. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
"Do you really love Vincent Reed?"
The corner of Yvonne’s mouth curled up as she looked at the still-frenzied Wendy.
Wendy snorted. "Whether I love him or not is irrelevant. What matters is that he loves me. He’s loved me for fifteen years. Even when he was dating you, he only ever loved me!"
"So that’s a no, then. If you loved him, how could you make him suffer the humiliation of raising another man’s child?"
After saying this, Yvonne shot a sideways glance at Mrs. Reed. Sure enough, upon hearing this, Mrs. Reed immediately stopped in her tracks and gestured for Ms. Young to be quiet.
Wendy hadn’t yet noticed Mrs. Reed behind her. She still had a smug look on her face. "He loves me, and he’s willing to do it. It’s not like I forced him."
"You had him licking your boots like a dog for fifteen years. Then you got pregnant with a married man’s child, so to mitigate the fallout, you had Vincent Reed marry you. He married you, but you continued your affair with Stanley Lynch. When things were exposed, you made him clarify on your behalf, to admit the child was his. I’m actually starting to feel sorry for Vincent Reed now. You’ve been using him from start to finish. You don’t love him. You don’t even give him a shred of respect."
"You think he’s pitiful, but he doesn’t think so himself! He thinks marrying me is proof that his sincere heart moved the heavens!"
"Is that so? Then after the child in your belly is born, will it take the surname Reed or Lynch?"
"Of course it will take the surname Reed. He’s the eldest grandson of the Reed family."
Yvonne looked down and chuckled, then looked past Wendy to Mrs. Reed. "Mrs. Reed, congratulations on your new eldest grandson."
