Chapter 47: Chapter 47: The Terms

Ryophlira POV

The blinding solar fire crackled and roared above my palms, gold light spread across the frozen stone of the palace courtyard. As the intense heat rolled off my skin, channeled perfectly into the devices held by thousands of waiting guards, my mind was a chaotic, spinning wreck.

God, how incredibly stupid of me.

The thought burned worse than the magic in my veins. I couldn’t believe I had actually just stood there in the tea room and confessed to him that I liked him.

How could I have been so remarkably foolish?

I had spent months meticulously building high, unbreakable walls, trying with every ounce of my soul to ignore, bury, and suffocate these terrifying feelings. I needed to stay focused. I couldn’t afford to forget that this relationship wasn’t about romance, soft confessions, or vulnerable nights it was a political alliance. It was about survival. It was about making sure my people, and his, survived the brutal, oncoming tides of this war.

With a final, thunderous snap of energy, the last of the black containment devices filled to its absolute brim with my fire. The oppressive heat vanished, and the blinding glow in my eyes finally receded, leaving my vision adjusting to the dull northern day.

I sharply clapped my hands together, the sound echoing cleanly over the courtyard. "Alright, now! You all have your suns. Get moving to your stations. As for the rest of you who were assigned to remain here at the capital, let’s head inside the greenhouse."

As I turned my gaze swept over my shoulder. There he stood. Yue-Senn was leaning against the stone pillars of the palace steps, staring down at me with an expression of sheer amazement. The dark, mocking King was entirely spellbound, his eyes locked onto me as he smoothly stepped down to follow me, Ki-ri falling into lockstep right behind him.

An uneasy, fluttering tension knotted in my stomach, but I kept my chin held high, forcing myself to look straight ahead as I walked toward the towering glass structure.

"Did you two... you know?" Ari’s voice suddenly cut through my panic, a low, mischievous whisper right by my ear. Before I could answer, she playfully elbowed me hard in the ribs.

"We didn’t," I hissed back, my face instantly flushed.

"Oh, please. What ridiculous games are you two even playing at this point?" Ari scoffed softly, rolling her eyes as we walked. "It is painfully obvious to anyone with eyes that you two want a hell of a lot more than what this current arrangement is. So just give in already, Ry."

"I want it to be special, Ari," I confessed, my voice dropping so low it was nearly swallowed by the crunch of the snow beneath our boots. "I want him to genuinely want me. Not just out of some fleeting, animalistic lust."

"Come on, Ry, not everything in this life is going to be flawless or perfect," Ari countered, a knowing, wicked grin spreading across her face. "You two are legally married. And if you haven’t noticed by now, you have that terrifying, unhinged man completely on a leash like a dog. Trust me, if you give him the green light, he will make it more than special."

A tiny, involuntary smile touched my lips, the mental image of the ruthless King of the North being utterly tamed sending a thrill straight to my chest. I couldn’t help myself I cast a quick glance back over my shoulder to look at him. The moment my eyes met his, Yue-Senn quickly jerked his head away, completely avoiding eye contact as a rare, incredibly dark flush crept up the back of his neck.

Finally, our boots crossed the threshold into the massive greenhouse.

Inside, it was a vast, hollow skeleton of glass and iron. Nothing had grown yet. The space was entirely dominated by rows of dark, messy tilled dirt with raw seeds freshly buried beneath the surface, the ground slick, dark, and wet from the melted frost.

"Alright, everyone! Start hanging the light devices right now!" Ari commanded, her voice booming through the cavernous space.

Instantly, the soldiers and guards rushed past us into the greenhouse, a flurry of organized chaos. The magical mages utilized their elemental abilities to lift the devices into the air, some floated effortlessly upward on currents of wind, while other soldiers climbed the iron rafters, everyone using their specific powers and physical agility to secure the artificial suns along the high glass ceiling.

I stepped deeper into the center of the structure, the smell of damp earth filling my senses. I closed my eyes, taking a deep, grounding breath. Slowly, I knelt down, sinking onto my knees regardless of the ruffles of my gown, and pressed both of my bare palms flat against the cold, wet soil.

I opened my eyes, and the world shifted. A brilliant, blinding light erupted from my pupils, illuminating the entire interior of the greenhouse.

"Grow," I whispered.

The command tore from my lips power of nature itself. For a second, a heavy, breathless stillness hung in the air and then, the entire ground began to shake and rumble. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

Beneath my palms, the earth literally came alive. Tiny green shoots cracked through the dark soil, mutating and expanding at an impossible, supernatural speed. Thick, vibrant green vines erupted from the ground, racing up the towering iron pillars and weaving across the glass ceiling like living ropes of emerald. Beautiful, exotic flowers suddenly exploded into full bloom, unfolding their petals in a sea of rich purples, deep blues, and brilliant pinks. Vast, rows of golden, heavy grains shot straight up from the dirt, swaying as if caught in a summer breeze. To my right, rows of thick fruit trees and robust vegetable bushes burst forth, heavy branches instantly sagging under the sudden weight of plump, perfectly ripe citrus, apples, and dark green leaves.

The devices hanging casting dramatic, golden shafts of light that pierced through the lush canopy, illuminating a crystal-clear waterfall and pond that had formed in the far center. Within a matter of seconds, the barren, cold dirt room had completely transformed into a breathtaking, paradise of endless life and warmth.

A collective, thunderous cheer erupted from the soldiers and guards, their voices echoing off the glass as they began chanting my name in pure awe.

I slowly stood up, brushing the damp earth off my hands as a genuine, radiant smile broke across my face, a profound sense of pride and happiness swelling in my chest. I turned to the side, my eyes scanning the crowd. "Magic users of water, are you ready?"

A few specialized soldiers and guards stepped forward, holding heavy pails of water. Moving in a synchronized pattern, they raised their hands, utilizing their magical abilities to draw the liquid upward into the air. They controlled the water effortlessly, shaping it into delicate, shimmering arcs and misty clouds that floated gracefully over the rows of crops, gently raining down to nourish the newly grown plants.

I stepped back a few paces as I admired the absolute masterpiece of our collective work.

Suddenly, a massive, familiar furnace of heat closed in directly behind me. I felt the broad, solid expanse of Yue-Senn’s chest press lightly against my back. He leaned his head down, his lips brushing the tip of my ear as his deep voice whispered into my ear.

"Well done, my Queen."

The hot vibration of his breath sent a shiver straight down my spine. My cheeks flushed and my heart began to race at a frantic, erratic speed. Ari’s words instantly echoed through my mind. Maybe it really is time to give in. Maybe it’s time to stop fighting the current and finally perform my wifely duties.

A wicked, reckless spark ignited in my chest. I slowly turned around to face him, stepping right into his space, my eyes locking onto him.

"Let’s have a duel, Yue-Senn," I said, my voice steady, smooth, and dripping with an intense challenge.

He raised a single, dark eyebrow, a slow, intrigued smirk pulling at his lips. "A duel? Out of nowhere? And what exactly are the stakes, Ry?"

"If I win," I began, taking a step closer until my laced shirt was nearly touching his vest, "I want the hidden cave in the Zeparah region the one that holds the ancient black jade rubies to be placed entirely under my executive control. And I want all of your legal rights to it signed over to me permanently."

Yue-Senn’s eyes darkened, a low, dangerous chuckle vibrating in his chest. "Very bold, my love. And how exactly did you find out about the existence of that specific cave?"

I let out a soft, mocking smirk, tilting my head. "Do you honestly think all Ari does is just stand quietly by my side all day? I have my ways."

"Well played," he murmured, his gaze dropping to my lips for a fraction of a second. "And if I happen to win this little match?" frёewebηovel.cѳm

I stepped up on my tippy-toes, leaning in until my lips were a mere breath away from his jawline. "If you win... you can have sex with me. Tonight. Anywhere, and in absolutely any way you would like."

I slowly pulled back, locking my eyes onto his stunned expression, and blew him a slow, teasing kiss.

Yue-Senn’s jaw clenched his breathing turning ragged as his eyes suddenly flared with a piercing, dangerous green glow. My own eyes answered, igniting into a golden glow. Neither of us had even a single plan of backing down, the untamed power of the sun and the shadows clashing in the space between us.
