Chapter 67: Chapter 67 Gift
Sylvia’s POV
I couldn’t believe Selene refused to give up so easily.
She persisted, following me closely and trying to grab the zipper at my back, all while feigning concern. "Sivi, please let me help. I’ll come with you," she cooed with false sweetness.
"The ballroom is so large—we should stick together," she added, stretching her hand toward me.
I sidestepped her attempt. "I said no. I can manage on my own."
Noticing the curious glances from other pack members, I decided against creating a scene. My wolf was already agitated, her growls vibrating through my chest. Just as I was about to expose Selene’s true intentions, a commotion erupted near the entrance. Whispers and gasps rippled through the crowd like a wave.
"Oh my God, who is that?"
"I’ve never seen a man with such presence."
"That face would stand out even in Hollywood."
A female wolf nearby practically melted, her cheeks flushing red. "He looked at me for a second, and I felt it in my bones."
"Which pack is he from? How have I never seen someone this striking before?"
The whispers grew louder until someone finally recognized him.
"Wait—I think that’s Ms. Frost’s mate."
"Now that you mention it, I do recall... though he looks even more breathtaking tonight."
My eyes followed the crowd’s gaze, and there he was—Caesar, cutting through the throng of people like a wolf parting tall grass. He wore an impeccable gray suit that perfectly complemented my strapless gown.
My gaze tracked his every movement, and I couldn’t deny the flutter in my chest. With each step Caesar took, people automatically cleared a path. His destination was clear—he was coming straight for me.
When he reached me, his expression softened, eyes gentle as he said, "I apologize for being late."
"It’s fine," I replied, my lips curving into a genuine smile. "I understand. I’m just glad you came."
Caesar’s sharp eyes noticed the wine stain on my dress, and his relaxed demeanor shifted instantly. His eyes narrowed to slits, his jaw tightening.
"Who did this?" he asked, his voice dropping to a dangerous rumble that vibrated against my skin.
I remained silent. Tonight’s gala was crucial, and I wouldn’t let petty drama derail it.
But Caesar was perceptive—his gaze flicked to Selene, who was standing nearby. I tugged lightly at his sleeve and gave him a subtle gesture to stay quiet.
The crowd’s attention suddenly shifted.
"Is that the CEO of Vertex?"
"Really? I need to see this!"
Even I was surprised. I couldn’t help murmuring, "Strange. That CEO never makes public appearances. Why today?"
Caesar raised an eyebrow, his arm slipping possessively around my waist. "Don’t you want to go see?"
I shook my head. "If he’s here, he’s here to see my mother. It has nothing to do with me."
The hint of a smile played at the corners of Caesar’s mouth as he held me close, a private amusement dancing in his eyes that I couldn’t decipher.
"Make way! It’s not the Vertex CEO—it’s gifts from him!"
The crowd parted as security personnel carried in package after package. My mother, Alpha Astra, watched with obvious shock that quickly morphed into pleasure. Whatever these gifts were, they’d been brought into Frostline Enterprises’ business gala—a show of respect to the entire Frostfang Pack.
One of the security team approached my mother. "Alpha, these are gifts from our Alpha. He hopes for prosperous cooperation between our organizations."
"How wonderful. Please convey my thanks to your CEO," my mother replied, crow’s feet crinkling at her eyes as she smiled. freēwebnovel.com
We thought that was the end of it, until the security member continued: "These items are specifically for Ms. Sylvia Frost."
My jaw nearly dropped. I had no connection to Vertex’s CEO—why would he send me gifts?
"There must be some mistake," I said, unable to hide my confusion.
The man shook his head firmly. "No mistake. Our Alpha was very specific—these are for you, Ms. Sylvia."
Envious glances shot my way from around the room as the security guard began presenting the gifts.
"There are nine gifts total. First, property deeds for real estate near your company—our Alpha transfers ownership to you." freeweɓnøvel.com
He displayed the documents before moving on.
"Next, an evening gown. Our Alpha hopes you’ll enjoy it."
A floor-length dress encrusted with diamonds was revealed, exuding elegance and luxury.
"Third, our CEO sends this season’s newest sports car model. We understand Ms. Sylvia enjoys performance vehicles..."
My wolf’s ears perked up. That detail settled it—these gifts weren’t sent in error. Whoever this Alpha was, he knew my preferences.
I was about to politely decline when Caesar squeezed my hand, subtly shaking his head. He was right—rejecting such gifts publicly would only create awkwardness and potentially damage business relations.
"Thank you for these generous gifts from Vertex. I’m deeply grateful," I managed to say, fighting the urge to press my fingers against my temples.
This was beyond extravagant—it was borderline obscene. One gift would have been generous; this many was... suspicious. What could the Vertex CEO possibly want from me? In his eyes, I should be nothing more than an employee handling bids.
My mother recovered first, addressing the crowd with practiced ease. "Thank you for Vertex’s generosity. Now, everyone, please continue enjoying yourselves!"
She caught my eye and gestured toward the dress, silently telling me to change. My current wine-stained outfit was becoming increasingly inappropriate.
I nodded in agreement. After thanking the messenger once more, I followed a staff member to change into my mysterious gift, all while wondering what game the Vertex CEO was playing—and why Caesar seemed so amused by it all.
