Chapter 149: Chapter 149 Rumors

Author’s POV

The grand hall of the Frostfang mansion glowed with warm amber lighting, meticulously arranged to showcase the pack’s wealth and influence. Crystal chandeliers hung from vaulted ceilings, casting prismatic reflections across the marble floors where wolves from every corner of Howling Peaks now gathered.

Sylvia stood at the center of it all, a vision in a strapless midnight-blue gown that hugged her curves before flowing elegantly to the floor. The dress was embellished with subtle silver accents that caught the light with her every movement, reminiscent of stars against a night sky. Her silver bracelet remained firmly on her wrist, a silent reminder of who she truly was beneath the polished exterior.

Every eye in the room gravitated toward her as she discussed business strategies with a circle of influential pack members. Her knowledge of market trends and innovative approaches to expansion had them captivated, hanging on her every word.

"Ms. Frost, the way you secured those telecommunications contracts was nothing short of brilliant," remarked an older wolf with silver-streaked hair. "The competition never stood a chance."

Sylvia smiled with practiced modesty. "The key was understanding what our clients truly needed rather than what they thought they wanted. Frostline doesn’t just sell products—we provide solutions."

"God, is there such a beautiful woman in existence?" a young Beta wolf whispered to his companion, not quite quietly enough.

"And I heard those two major projects were her doing entirely," another added with undisguised admiration.

"Not just that—she’s running operations as General Manager at Frostline. Outperforming most of the male executives, from what I hear."

The whispers spread like wildfire throughout the gathering. While Sylvia maintained her professional demeanor, discussing quarterly projections and market expansions, the undercurrent of fascination with both her beauty and business acumen continued to build.

Several eligible bachelors from prominent families began to take particular notice.

"Why didn’t anyone tell me Sylvia Frost was not only gorgeous but also brilliant at making money?" one Alpha to a neighboring territory lamented.

"If that’s the case, consider me officially interested," another replied, straightening his tie with renewed purpose.

"Wonder if she’s still single..."

A sharp-featured man with calculating eyes scoffed at their enthusiasm. "You’re all wasting your time. Don’t you know anything about Frostfang Pack traditions?"

The group turned to him, curiosity piqued. freewebnoveℓ.com

"What are you talking about?" someone asked.

The man looked around with thinly veiled contempt. "Bunch of provincials," he muttered before continuing louder. "Let me educate you on how things work in the Frostfang Pack. Any female heir must be married to inherit control of Frostline Enterprises. Without a marriage, she has no inheritance rights."

Collective understanding dawned on the group, followed quickly by disappointment.

"So what you’re saying is... Sylvia must already be married or engaged?" one asked, deflating visibly.

The smug expression on the man’s face crumbled. "Well, I—I hadn’t considered—"

"You didn’t even know!" someone laughed. "You’re as clueless as the rest of us!"

The conversation shifted to speculation about who could possibly have claimed such a prize. What kind of wolf would be worthy of someone with both Sylvia’s beauty and business prowess?

Across the room, Selene watched the scene unfold with mounting rage. Despite all her efforts, her sister remained the center of attention, drawing admiration and respect from the entire pack. Even after all this time, Sylvia’s magnetism hadn’t diminished—it had only grown stronger.

Selene’s fingers clenched around her champagne flute, knuckles whitening. Where was Cici? She was supposed to have set their plan in motion by now. If this continued, everyone would be so enamored with Sylvia that when the rumors finally broke, they might not even care.

She couldn’t let that happen. She was a daughter of the Frostfang Pack too—why should Sylvia get all the glory?

Taking a deep breath, Selene tried to calm her racing heart. Soon. It would happen soon. And then she would finally see her mother’s face when the truth about Sylvia came to light. The anticipation of Alpha Astra’s reaction made her pulse quicken with excitement.

Just as her patience began to wear thin, a contemptuous voice cut through the reverent murmurs about Sylvia.

"What’s the use of being that beautiful when you’re just someone who seduces her sister’s fiancé?"

The statement landed like a stone dropped into still water, creating ripples of shocked silence. After minutes of nothing but praise for Sylvia’s accomplishments, the accusation stood out starkly against the backdrop of admiration.

Conversations halted. Glasses paused midway to lips. All eyes searched for the source of the claim.

Selene froze momentarily before a slow, satisfied smile spread across her face. Finally. Let the chaos begin.

"Did you hear what I just said?" Cici’s voice grew louder as she stepped forward from behind a group of guests. "Your precious Sylvia Frost was caught having a private dinner with Hugo Gray—my best friend’s fiancé!"

The murmurs began immediately, heads turning back and forth between Sylvia and where Selene stood with feigned shock on her face.

"I saw them myself," Cici continued, emboldened by the attention. "At Lunar Eclipse restaurant, sitting close together, laughing and flirting like there was no tomorrow."

Sylvia’s face remained composed, though her wolf bristled beneath the surface. She’d expected this—had known Selene wouldn’t let the restaurant incident pass without trying to twist it to her advantage. Still, the timing was impeccable, even for Selene.

"Is this true?" someone asked, doubt creeping into their voice.

Before Sylvia could respond, another voice joined the fray—a pack elder who had been speaking with her just moments before.

"Are we really entertaining gossip at a formal gathering? This behavior is beneath the dignity of our pack."

But the seed had been planted. Whispers increased in volume as eyes darted between Sylvia and Selene. Alpha Astra, who had been engaged in conversation with some territory representatives across the room, now turned her attention toward the commotion, her brow furrowing in concern.

Selene observed with anticipation, her heart racing. She watched her mother’s face, waiting for the moment when disappointment would replace the usual pride she showed for Sylvia.

“Now, Mother,” she thought viciously. “Let’s see you defend your precious daughter this time.”
