Chapter 140: Chapter 140 Selene’s Trap
Selene’s POV
I watched Sylvia’s retreating back with smoldering hatred. Every praise those Vertex executives had heaped on her twisted like a knife in my gut. Even Mother’s rare smile was reserved for my perfect little sister.
The burning need for revenge consumed me like wildfire. I needed to see Sylvia fall, needed to watch her precious accomplishments crumble.
And I knew exactly who could help make that happen.
Zane Thorne. The Alpha who’d been publicly humiliated by my sister.
My lips curved into a dangerous smile as I pulled out my phone, scrolling through my contacts. When I’d first met Zane at that embarrassing scene in the lobby, I’d made sure to get his number. A powerful Alpha, even a temporarily disgraced one, could always be useful. And now his usefulness had become crystal clear.
I wonder what her dear ex-boyfriend would think about her amazing success lately? Perhaps he’d like to reconnect...
"I’m just helping you two lovebirds reunite," I murmured, hitting the call button. "No need to thank me."
The phone rang several times before Zane finally answered, his voice rough with irritation. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"What do you want?" he snapped.
I wasn’t surprised by his hostility. Last I’d heard, Zane had been practically imprisoned in his family’s mansion after his arrest tanked Thorne Pack’s stock. Alpha Thorne had apparently put his son on lockdown to "reflect" on his actions. As for his supposed true mate Chloe, she’d been relegated to some separate apartment, communicating only through phones.
"Now, now, Alpha Zane," I purred, keeping my voice sweet while contempt bubbled beneath the surface. "Is that any way to greet a friend? We know each other, and knowing someone means we’re friends. Meeting each other is fate, isn’t it?"
I kept my tone gentle and soothing, but couldn’t stop my eyes from rolling. If not for needing to humiliate Sylvia, I wouldn’t waste a second on this pathetic excuse for an Alpha. After that scene he’d caused, he was practically a laughingstock throughout Howling Peaks.
Zane’s voice hardened. "Cut the crap. What do you want?"
I allowed myself a small laugh. "Such a straightforward Alpha. I like that."
I paused for effect, letting tension build before continuing. "I just thought you might want to know that Sylvia’s career has been absolutely flourishing lately. She’s raking in money hand over fist."
"What’s that supposed to mean?" The immediate shift in his tone was palpable. I could practically hear him sitting up straighter, his interest instantly piqued.
My wolf preened with satisfaction. So predictable.
"Exactly what I said." I couldn’t help but twist the knife a little deeper. "What’s wrong? Didn’t you know your ex-girlfriend was such a money-maker?"
I lowered my voice conspiratorially. "Don’t tell me she hid that from you too? Not just her Alpha bloodline, but her business talents as well? Tsk, tsk, tsk."
I dragged out each word, speaking slowly and deliberately, savoring every syllable like fine wine. Through the phone, I could hear his breathing grow heavier, more agitated. I pictured him clenching his fists, his chest heaving with anger as the reality sank in.
The silence stretched between us, filled only by his harsh breathing. He was processing, realizing just how much Sylvia had concealed from him during their relationship.
"What do you want me to do?" he finally asked, his voice tight with barely controlled rage.
I smiled in triumph. Just as I predicted—beneath that thin veneer of pride was just another greedy, entitled Alpha male who couldn’t stand being outshone, especially by a female he’d discarded.
"It’s simple, really," I replied, my voice silky smooth. "A woman that capable—how could you possibly let her go? She belongs at your side. Why not pursue her again?"
There was a moment of hesitation before Zane responded, his voice tinged with reluctance. "I’ve tried that approach. It didn’t work."
I could hear the embarrassment in his tone as he remembered his public humiliation. Getting thrown in jail would certainly dampen anyone’s enthusiasm for a repeat performance.
"Trust me," I assured him confidently. "You just used the wrong method before. As a woman myself, I understand exactly what women want. Follow my plan, and she’ll be yours again..."
I outlined my scheme in meticulous detail, explaining exactly how he should approach Sylvia, what to say, where to confront her. By the end, even Zane seemed uncertain.
"Will this really work?" he asked doubtfully.
"Absolutely," I insisted. "Women love grand gestures. Trust me, this will definitely work."
Zane finally agreed. Men like Zane were all the same—seeing women as trophies to be displayed and assets to be acquired.
"Good," I purred. "I know you’ll do brilliantly."
As I hung up, satisfaction coursed through my veins. Soon, Sylvia would face public humiliation at Zane’s hands, and I’d be there to witness her fall from grace. After all, what Alpha male could resist a money tree ripe for the picking?
When Mother saw her precious daughter brought low, perhaps she’d finally realize who her truly loyal daughter was. I would comfort her, stand by her, and slowly but surely claim my rightful place as her heir.
My phone buzzed with a message from Zane:When should I make my move?
A cold smile tugged at my lips as I typed my reply:Tomorrow. Meet me downstairs at our company building. Have everything ready.
My plan was already in motion. Sylvia wouldn’t see what was coming until it was far too late.
