Chapter 21: 21. They Asked What a Zero-Class Instructor Would Do. Well, I’ll Demonstrate It

The woman’s head snapped around, and for the first time she seemed to notice William standing there. Her eyes went wide with a mixture of panic and recognition, though William had no idea why she’d recognize him since he was pretty sure he’d never seen her before in his life or in his borrowed memories.

She was actually quite striking now that he could see her properly. Mid to late twenties, with sharp features that suggested intelligence and probably a temper to match.

’Is this even necessary to think about that now?!’

The messy bun hairstyle framed a face that was definitely above average in attractiveness, which William’s brain helpfully noted despite the current crisis situation. Her instructor’s uniform was well-fitted in ways that suggested she either took care of her physique or had very good genetics, possibly both.

’Shit...’ William starts to do some gestures at her so that he didn’t look like that he’s trying to make things worse.

"Run," William hissed at her, already moving toward an intersecting corridor that would take them away from the approaching footsteps.

The woman didn’t need to be told twice. She bolted after him, her boots making way too much noise on the stone floor for any kind of stealth escape.

William could hear at least three different sets of footsteps coming from the storage room area now, spreading out to search the corridors.

They made it maybe fifty feet before one of the pursuers appeared around a corner ahead of them, cutting off their escape route. The man was dressed in an academy maintenance uniform, which was a clever disguise since maintenance staff could access basically any part of the academy without raising suspicion.

"Well, well," the man said, and William immediately recognized the voice from the storage room conversation. "Looks like we’ve got eavesdroppers."

"That’s unfortunate for you."

Two more people showed up behind them, making it impossible for them to get away. One was another man in maintenance gear, while the third was a woman wearing student robes that probably belonged to some unfortunate actual student who was currently tied up somewhere.

"Heh, yeah, right... unfortunate is one word for it," William said.

He was already thinking about how to attack and defend himself, even though he didn’t have any weapons.

"Or you can find it as in another word... which is ’dumbass.’"

"Do you really think that disappearing or attacking instructors in the middle of the academy won’t get a lot of attention?" William said with a smug in on his face.

"Who said anything about disappearing?" the first man said, pulling out what looked like a magical restraint device. "We’re just going to talk about what you heard, make sure you know how important it is to stay quiet, and then we’ll send you on your way with altered memories."

"You get what I meant, right? There’s no harm done."

"What the fuck did you just said...? Changing memories...? That’s against academy charter and kingdom law," the woman behind William said, her voice shaking a little but trying to sound in charge. "If you’re caught, you’ll all be killed."

’Can they even do that...?!’ William panicked. ’Changing memories...? Isn’t that count as mind break or some shit...?’

’That’s beyond fucked!’

The fake student said, "Only if someone reports it," and moved closer with a creepy amount of confidence.

"And once we’re done, you won’t remember anything to tell them about it."

William saw how they were getting ready, moving in sync like people who had worked together before. These weren’t just random people who wanted to cause trouble.

’They’re not some randoms enemies I see... an experienced one which was worse.’

’They were actual combat veterans and trained operatives...’

’This only made the situation much more dangerous than I had thought at first.’

The lead man’s eyes moved to the woman behind William, and his face changed from a professional threat to something much more disturbing. "Now that I see you better, maybe we should take our time with the memory modification process."

"You look great for an instructor. It’s a shame to waste such a chance by eavesdropping something that you should’ve not heard."

William’s blood boiled when the other male operative laughed.

"The boss said no deaths, but he didn’t say anything about having fun first, am I right, you guys?"

"You’re goddamn right! Especially a sexy woman with huge tits like her!"

William could tell that the woman behind him was getting tense, which made him understand what she meant. The fake student moved to block any possible escape route, and the two men moved slowly forward, sure that they had more people on their side and that their targets were unarmed.

’What a fucking disgusting rapist... now I fucking get what they meant with the changing memories...’ William clenched his fists.

"Okay, that’s enough," William said, his voice dropping to the cold, businesslike tone he used to use when he was fighting enemies. "I give you all last chance to leave before this gets messy."

The main guy really did laugh. "That’s a lot of talk for someone who isn’t armed and is outnumbered."

"And don’t you forget who you are right now...? A Zero-class instructor!"

"What are you going to do, asshole, teach us combat theory until we die?"

"HAHAHA! Good one!"

William said, "Well, now... that’s actually a great fucking idea, you can say something like that," and then he moved.

"Here! Let me demonstrate that theory right now!"

His past life as a famous combat instructor wasn’t just about teaching theory. He had been in real fights for decades, honing his reflexes and skills so that he didn’t need weapons to kill.

The stats boost from his system training had given him back physical abilities he’d lost, and months of administrative work hadn’t completely erased Catherine’s muscle memory. This meant that his body still knew how to fight, even though it was technically a different body than the one he’d trained with for years. freeweɓnovel.cøm

William moved closer to the lead man in three quick steps, going faster than someone of his age and rank should have been able to. The man was surprised and tried to use his magical restraint device, but William was already inside his guard.

The man dropped the device when a sharp blow to the pressure point in his wrist made his fingers spasm. William caught it before it hit the ground just to turned it around in one smooth motion, and slammed it into the man’s neck.

The device turned on with a crackle of magical energy, and the operative fell hard, twitching from the shock of his own weapon.

"One down," William said calmly as he turned to face the second man, who was coming at him with what looked like a combat knife.

The knife came in quickly and professionally, aimed at William’s kidney in a killing blow that showed real training. William turned his body so that the blade missed his uniform by inches and grabbed the man’s outstretched wrist.

He used the attacker’s speed against him by pulling him forward and off-balance while also pushing his elbow into the man’s solar plexus. The man gasped and fell, and William hit him in the face with his knee, which sent him crashing into the wall with a satisfying thud.

The knife fell to the floor, and William kicked it away before the operative could get back up.

"Two down," William said, and then he looked at the fake student, who now looked a lot less sure of himself.

The woman took out what looked like a magic attack wand, the kind that junior combat students use to practice. It seems that she didn’t think there would be real resistance and wasn’t ready for a real fight.

She cast a powerful spell, but William was able to avoid it by sliding past her guard. He came up behind her, grabbed her wand arm, and twisted it so hard that she screamed and let go of the weapon.

A sweep kick knocked her legs out from under her, and she fell to the ground so hard that it knocked the wind out of her lungs. William stood up straight and looked over his uniform for any damage. freewёbnoνel.com

"And three," he said.

Surprisingly, they were still in one piece, which was good because he didn’t want to have to explain to Catherine why his clothes were ripped.

"Demonstration’s over~!"
