Chapter 397: Chapter 397: A Feint! A Sneak Attack
"Die!"
The Biochemical Demon erupted with his full power, throwing a world-shaking punch.
CRACK! BOOM!
Li Wei’s Invisible Armor shattered, sending fragments flying everywhere.
His body burst apart, scattering into flames that fell to the ground.
The sky above suddenly grew dim.
The Biochemical Demon looked up to see dark cyan flames enveloping the sky.
He crouched and leaped violently, trying to escape through the only opening.
CRUNCH!
The Fire Dragon’s jaws snapped shut, sealing off the Biochemical Demon’s last escape route.
Eiris sensed the intense Magic Fluctuation from behind her and instinctively turned to look.
The sight left her dumbfounded.
The head of a Fire Dragon, as enormous as a mountain peak, had appeared on the dueling platform.
She had never seen such an exaggerated Fire Dragon Skill.
The outside of the Fire Dragon Skill was a crimson inferno.
But inside were deep, high-temperature, dark cyan flames.
The temperature reached an astonishing hundreds of thousands of degrees.
The mysterious liquid coating the Biochemical Demon’s body vibrated violently before being rapidly vaporized.
He relied on this mysterious liquid to maintain his extremely high resistance to fire.
Now, even the mysterious liquid couldn’t withstand the searing heat of the Cyan Flame.
HSSSSSS!
"AAAAAH!"
The Biochemical Demon let out a bloodcurdling scream.
"I surrender! I surrender!"
He lay prone on the ground, curling into a ball to minimize the damage.
Li Wei heard his shouts of surrender.
So he decided to let him off the hook.
The Cyan Flame vanished, reverting to normal crimson fire. freeweɓnøvel.com
The Fire Dragon’s head gradually dissipated into the air.
The two figures on the platform were revealed.
Li Wei, wreathed in flames, stared at the unmoving Biochemical Demon curled up on the ground. freeweɓnovel.cøm
Seeing that he hadn’t moved for a long time, Li Wei grew suspicious.
’He can’t be dead, can he?’
Just as he was about to step forward and check, a slit suddenly split open on the Biochemical Demon’s back, and a black shadow shot out.
It was so fast that even his Spiritual Perception couldn’t keep up.
In less than a ten-thousandth of a second, the attack was over.
A fine but incredibly sharp and sturdy black poisonous stinger pierced Li Wei’s body.
Li Wei felt the Mana in his body turn sluggish as his nerves went numb.
The Biochemical Demon slowly climbed to his feet, retracting the poisonous stinger that had extended from his spine.
He stared intently at Li Wei, a hideous smile twisting his charred face.
"Hehehe, you’re a dead man."
"This is Scorpion Venom—the third most potent poison in the world."
"This tail was modified from the stinger of a Tier Seven scorpion. It can even kill a Legendary Powerhouse!"
Believing victory was in his grasp, he was in the mood to explain things to Li Wei.
It was partly to show off and intimidate Li Wei.
And partly to stall for time, waiting for the poison to kill him.
It was true the stinger came from a Tier Seven scorpion.
However, that scorpion had been dead for an unknown number of years.
It was unclear how much of its power the stinger still retained.
A scorpion in its prime could have easily killed a Legendary Level powerhouse.
Now, it was hard to say whether the residual venom from a scorpion dead for many years could even threaten a Legendary Powerhouse.
Li Wei could clearly feel the overwhelming power of the Scorpion Venom.
He sensed the Power of a "Rule" within it.
The Poison Rule.
However, the Rule Power wasn’t complete. It was a fragmented Rule.
It was even weaker than the Basic Level Flame Rule Li Wei had mastered.
Even so, as a fragmented Rule—even if it only held a fraction of the power of true Scorpion Venom—its power was still astonishing.
Even his Flame Lord Body couldn’t resist the venom’s corrosive effects.
Li Wei could clearly feel his body growing stiff, his life force draining away.
He immediately used his Flame Rule, attempting to purge the fragmented Poison Rule from his body.
Unfortunately, the Scorpion Venom was too strong.
His Basic Level Flame Rule couldn’t counteract it.
Li Wei had no choice but to take out the Goddess’s Tears.
The moment he did, he felt control returning to his body.
HUMMM!
「At the Holy Mountain in the center of the Human Empire.」
Atop the Holy Mountain stood the Saint Hall of Light.
The usually peaceful and serene Saint Hall of Light suddenly began to emit waves of Holy Light.
A Cardinal walked into the Holy Hall, bowed his head slightly, and called out, "Lady Saintess."
"Someone has used the power of the Goddess’s Tears, to the west of the Celestial Vault Continent," the Saintess said.
The Cardinal looked puzzled. "West of the Celestial Vault Continent? Isn’t that just the Endless Sea?"
The Saintess said, "The Goddess’s Tears went missing in Storm City, which is in the West Desert Wastelands."
"Recently, the five top Mage Towers have been holding an exchange tournament at the Space Tower, which happens to be located over the Endless Sea."
"Therefore, it is highly likely the Goddess’s Tears was stolen by someone from the Elemental Tower."
"The recent fall of the Four-winged Angel is also most likely connected to this person."
With just these few clues, the Saintess had already narrowed the culprit down to someone from the Elemental Tower.
The Cardinal kept his head lowered. "If someone from the Elemental Tower stole the Goddess’s Tears, can’t we just make them hand the person over?"
The Saintess replied, "No. You will handle this matter personally. Bring that person back to me. I want them alive."
The Cardinal nodded. "Understood. I will take my leave, then."
The Saintess gazed toward the horizon, ripples disturbing her otherwise calm eyes.
’You’re still alive?’
"You’re still alive! Impossible!"
The Biochemical Demon stared at Li Wei in shock.
Not only was Li Wei still alive, but he also seemed perfectly fine.
The Scorpion Venom had been neutralized by the Goddess’s Tears.
In such a critical moment, Li Wei couldn’t worry about the consequences.
Besides, this was the Endless Sea, far from the Celestial Vault Continent.
The Light Divine Sect’s territory was the Central Earth Continent, the central region of the Celestial Vault Continent.
’They can’t possibly come all this way just to capture me.’
With the Scorpion Venom neutralized, Li Wei no longer held back.
"Burn!"
Flames erupted on the Biochemical Demon’s body.
They were flames that could not be extinguished.
The special mucus on his body was now useless, unable to resist the seemingly ordinary flames.
"AAAAAH!"
WHOOSH!
After a flash of white light, the Biochemical Demon vanished from the spot.
In the spot where he had stood, only a competitor’s token remained.
With a casual wave of his hand, the token flew into Li Wei’s grasp.
All the Points on the token were transferred to Li Wei.
He glanced at his own Points, which now totaled 172.
Most of them came from the two Summoners he had eliminated earlier.
A small portion came from the Biochemical Demon.
The points from the platform itself were even fewer.
He still needed another 128 Points to purchase the Space Spear.
That meant he had to defend the platform for at least two more hours.
Li Wei turned his head to look around.
The battle off-stage had already ended.
The Alchemist who had been fighting Eiris had fled on a Beast-shaped Magic Puppet.
The Illusionist had left at some point as well.
Perhaps they felt they were no match for Li Wei.
Or perhaps they figured that even if they defeated Li Wei, they would still have to face a challenge from Eiris.
It wasn’t worth the trouble, so they had retreated.
In any case, Li Wei could now occupy the platform peacefully for a while.
Eiris also found a way to set up a hidden Magic Barrier nearby to prevent others from spotting the platform from a distance.
It wouldn’t do much against those who had already noted the platform’s location, of course.
But it would help avoid a lot of unnecessary trouble.
