Chapter 247: Chapter 212: Important Information, Setting Off
"Yes!" Although Miyagi Yoshiaki had no idea how this Wu Liangchen knew his name, he forced himself to calm down and nodded in reply.
"It looks like you’ve been paying close attention to me, putting together such a detailed file." Wu Liangchen picked up the notebook from the table, idly flipped through a few pages, and chuckled.
Miyagi Yoshiaki was speechless.
At this point, there was no use saying anything else.
He just watched Wu Liangchen quietly, trying his best to calm his racing heart.
He once believed he could face death with complete composure, his heart as still as water. Only today did he realize how wrong he was.
Because no one is truly fearless in the face of death.
The only thing he could do was try to appear as calm as possible.
Just then, Wu Liangchen set the notebook down. He crossed his arms and sized Miyagi Yoshiaki up.
"Speak. Your East Sea nation has been plotting for so long. When do you plan to make your move?"
Miyagi Yoshiaki remained silent, his expression turning into one of tragic defiance, as if ready to meet his end.
Or so he thought.
Wu Liangchen just smiled faintly. "Very good. I hope you can remain this brave in a little while."
With that, Wu Liangchen started walking toward him.
Miyagi Yoshiaki tensed up instantly. "Wh-what are you going to do?"
He backed away with incredible speed as he spoke.
But Wu Liangchen paid him no mind. In an instant, he was in front of him, catching the fist Miyagi Yoshiaki threw at him.
CRACK.
Wu Liangchen crushed Miyagi Yoshiaki’s fist. The excruciating pain made him howl, the sound piercing the silent night.
’He did this on purpose.’
’He was trying to alert the retainers and guards outside so they would rush in and save him.’
But in the next second, a kick snapped his leg, and he collapsed to the floor.
Just then, to his relief, he heard the sound of footsteps outside and felt a surge of hope.
’He knew, of course, that his men were no match for Wu Liangchen, but they could at least serve as a distraction.’
But a moment later, his hope was dashed.
A dozen streaks of white light suddenly burst from Wu Liangchen’s hand. They shot through the doors, windows, and walls, followed by screams and the thud of bodies hitting the ground outside.
In the blink of an eye, all was silent again. Wu Liangchen glanced down at the pale, trembling Miyagi Yoshiaki and chuckled.
"Pardon me. I was just interrupted by a few nobodies. We can continue now."
With that, Wu Liangchen slowly bent down, a smile on his face as he prepared to continue his work.
Miyagi Yoshiaki was scared out of his wits, and he even started babbling in the tongue of the East Sea.
After a stream of gibberish, he finally roared, "Wu Liangchen, you’re supposed to be a world-renowned knight-errant! How can you be so vicious?"
"Vicious?" Wu Liangchen shook his head. "I don’t see it as vicious. You’re the one on my turf with ill intentions, and you won’t answer my questions. So, naturally, I have to deal with you."
"Besides, doesn’t your East Sea nation always go on about loyalty to your Monarch? Now you have the perfect opportunity to demonstrate it. You should be thanking me."
As he spoke, Wu Liangchen grabbed Miyagi Yoshiaki’s good hand. "Don’t be nervous," he said leisurely. "We have plenty of time."
The moment he finished speaking, Wu Liangchen crushed one of his fingers.
Miyagi Yoshiaki completely broke.
He had never expected Wu Liangchen to completely ignore the usual rules of engagement.
’Aren’t these Great Yan knight-errants supposed to be obsessed with their reputations? Why is this one so ruthless?’
’His methods are on par with, if not worse than, the people from Moon Pavilion.’
Miyagi Yoshiaki realized that both he and his Monarch had been wrong. Only Ota Masayuki had seen the truth: Wu Liangchen couldn’t be judged by conventional standards.
According to his file, Wu Liangchen was a man of sentiment and honor, someone who would travel thousands of miles to fulfill a single promise.
This was precisely why the East Sea’s Monarch, Miyagi Yoshiaki, and the others had been trying to win him over.
But it turned out he was an utterly ruthless man.
And Miyagi Yoshiaki was far from being as brave as he had imagined, not nearly ready to face death with equanimity.
"I’ll talk! I’ll talk! I’ll tell you everything!"
Only then did Wu Liangchen release his grip. He smiled. "Go on. Tell me everything you know."
Miyagi Yoshiaki gasped for breath a few times, then said, "Our Monarch plans to make his move after the great upheaval in Great Yan."
"Upheaval? Is something about to happen in the capital?" Wu Liangchen asked immediately.
Miyagi Yoshiaki glanced at Wu Liangchen in surprise, not expecting him to react so quickly.
"Yes!"
Miyagi Yoshiaki then told him everything he knew.
After listening, Wu Liangchen mulled it over for a long moment before speaking. "So, you’re saying the Empress Dowager plans to get rid of her own son?"
"That’s right," Miyagi Yoshiaki said.
Wu Liangchen couldn’t help but frown. "Is she insane? Doesn’t she realize the enormous turmoil this will cause?"
Wu Liangchen had no affection for Great Yan, of course, but he was still shocked by the Empress Dowager’s audacity and arrogance.
It was like a terminally ill person, instead of recuperating, deciding to take a potent, dangerous poison. If that wasn’t courting death, what was?
A cold smile touched Miyagi Yoshiaki’s lips.
"You are a man of great stature, Your Excellency, so of course you can see the risks as clear as day. But a mere woman, shut away deep within the palace—how could she possibly understand these things? If she has someone else whispering in her ear, urging her on, it’s not surprising she would do something like this."
