Chapter 9: Elizabeth

Levon glanced at the monster on the next tile but didn’t panic. The square the monster was standing on was not a safe one, and there was only one thing to do: wait for it to make a move. But then again, what if the goblin refused to move? What would his fate be then? He had less than three minutes to figure it out.

But no matter what, the goblin didn’t move; it only stood there as angry as ever, waiting for Levon to take the first step.

Levon was still thinking when all of a sudden he hurled his axe straight at the monster. He had no more time for consideration; he was under a minute now to get everything done.

Taking a very risky gamble, Levon leaped and landed straight on the body of the goblin, hoping his decision would pay off — and it fortunately did.

He heard no clicks, meaning the tiles only sensed human footprints.

Levon looked ahead; the bear was down and helpless before him, but he didn’t slow down at all. He jumped straight onto the body of the bear and with one powerful strike smashed its head to pieces.

Levon quickly jumped to the tile that held his sword. Thankfully, it was a safe square, so he didn’t need to worry.

He immediately grabbed his sword and glanced at the network of tiles once more; he needed to reach the door as fast as possible.

But to his surprise, he had been completely unaware of the creatures that had gathered in a straight line, as though they were all waiting for him to make a move.

Levon was not fazed at all; he had barely a minute left. There was simply no time for any critical thinking — he needed to strike and strike fast.

With that thought, Levon lunged straight at them, driving his sword powerfully into any monster blocking his path.

All the monsters lunged at him the moment he came within range. Levon immediately kicked the goblin directly in front of him.

Although he took a massive blow to his right side, he didn’t stop running through every safe tile he could find.

The monsters grew even more furious, chasing after him like he had done something personal to each of them.

Levon pushed himself even faster; the pain in his side wasn’t even registering anymore — it was as though it didn’t exist.

Soon enough Levon made it to the door and quickly pressed his palms against the depression made for hand placement, and immediately he dissolved into fragments.

He reappeared inside a large city filled with houses and factories. The weather was grim, and despite how vast it all looked, the buildings still appeared to belong to an older time.

The large factories looked worn and weathered.

The roads were cracked and neglected. The city had a certain charm to it, but it was old — like the remnants of a civilization long past. fгeewebnovёl.com

Levon looked at the houses; every single one had its lights out, except for one, which still had an old lamp stand glowing faintly in the distance.

Levon instinctively began walking toward it.

But deep down his senses were now on high alert; he gripped his sword so tightly it was as though he would crumble if he let go. His fingers had already gone white from the sheer force of his grip.

Levon took cautious steps toward the house, his sword raised, prepared for any attack that might come his way.

Just as he reached the door, he heard the creaking sound of a lock turning.

He stood firmly in place, sword raised high, waiting for the door to open.

Levon’s first instinct was straightforward — this was the witches’ coven, so it had to be filled with old women with gray hair, hunched backs, and pointed hats who could kill you for literally anything in the world.

But to his surprise, what emerged from that door was nothing like he expected.

"Hello, I’m guessing you’re here for the trial, right?"

She spoke with a voice like that of an angel.

Levon was taken aback. Was the book wrong, or was he just imagining things?

She was truly breathtaking; her figure was striking, her face was flawless, and her red hair was pulled back in a ponytail that rested below her shoulders.

And her smile was strong enough to win a man’s heart even without the use of magic.

"Yes, I am. Please, may I know who you are?" Levon said, still not letting his guard down. He had never been to this place; even in his past life he had never set foot here.

So it was only natural that he take every precaution necessary just in case.

But she responded with a smile, as though his caution amused her.

"Don’t mind my manners — come in. Everything will be explained inside," she said, still smiling.

Fear tightened in Levon’s chest.

This had to be a trick; she was trying to lure him in to kill him.

As if reading his mind, Elizabeth spoke up immediately.

"If I wanted to kill you, I would have done so in less than a millisecond," she said with a snap of her fingers.

Suddenly Levon’s sword vanished from his hands, as though it had never been there at all.

"What the—" Levon was speechless, unable to find the words to describe how shaken he truly was.

"See?" Elizabeth said with a light chuckle.

"Now come inside and stop wasting our precious time — or if you’d rather keep standing out there without your sword, then by all means, go right ahead," Elizabeth said, finally stepping into the cottage without sparing Levon another glance.

Levon scanned the area, trying to sense anything out of place, but found nothing. Finally, with no more reason to hesitate, he made his way into her cottage.

It was quite large and well decorated, all the usual furnishings sitting exactly where they belonged.

"Please make yourself comfortable," Elizabeth said as she moved from one place to another, as though she was preparing to head somewhere. freёwebnovel.com

Levon watched her carefully as she moved around, making sure he stayed alert.

In the meantime, he decided to check what he had gained and pulled up his storage space.
