Chapter 6: The zone of the walking dead

Levon quickly snapped his head back as he spotted the creature from a distance; it stared at him as though he had committed a very serious crime.

Without warning, Levon sprinted forward, his eyes sharp with focus.

He quickly closed the distance before the creature could make another move.

And in one clean slash he slit its throat open.

Not enough to decapitate it, but just enough for the poison to do its work.

Levon watched from the side as the goblin began fighting the poison helplessly.

It struggled to stay on its feet before dropping almost immediately, clutching its neck as though the poison was strangling it against its will.

And before long it was dead.

[You have killed a rank three mutated goblin, level three (+30 exp).]

[Items have been dropped in your system space.]

’That was too slow,’ Levon thought as he looked around trying to spot any other creatures with the same intention.

But just as he expected, the zone was clear; after all, this was only the entrance of the forest. It was unlikely that one would find many system stones this close to the surface.

Levon quickly opened his storage space and clicked on the mechanical stones; he had twenty of them now.

’Wow, that’s even more than I anticipated,’ he said as he quickly began feeding them into his venomous sword.

[The venomous sword has leveled up to level 2.]

[The venomous sword has leveled up to level 3.]

[The venomous sword has leveled up to level 4.]

Levon looked at his remaining mechanical stones and sighed; the sword needed another 12 to level up again. freēwebnovel.com

He quickly equipped the graveward pendant; it was still at level one, so it could only hold for 40 seconds when activated.

Making sure he wasn’t forgetting anything, Levon finally began heading deeper into the forest.

’Now, where was the location of the first treasure chest?’ Levon thought as he pushed through the thick vines.

His sword felt denser as he moved.

Maybe it was because of how much he had upgraded it all at once.

Soon Levon finally reached the zone deep within the forest.

The zone of the walking dead.

Immediately, Levon ducked behind a tree as arrows came rushing down from above.

He knew this zone like the back of his hand; skeletal creatures began descending from the trees in large numbers.

[Skeletal Archers — Level 3: Very high shooting proficiency, accuracy approximately 85%.]

Their numbers were outrageous, which was exactly why they called it the zone of the walking dead — it was a stretch of ground littered with human bodies, arrows buried into their skin like some kind of punishment.

Soon the skeletons spotted him and began firing their arrows frantically.

Levon activated his pendant and quickly closed the distance between them in under a minute.

In one clean stroke, Levon decapitated the nearest skeleton.

He looked at the sword in disbelief; it was clean, light, and extremely efficient.

Without counting, Levon was certain there were at least 20 skeletal archers in the area.

But he wasn’t scared; all he needed to do was maintain close proximity with them, and they would be as useless as chickens.

He moved quickly through the spread-out crowd without thinking. This time around he didn’t hack them down like the first one; he only gave each one at least a single slice with the venomous sword, and within seconds they were dropping from the effectiveness of the poison.

[Pendant overheated, rebooting; next use available in 5 minutes.]

’Oh shit,’ Levon muttered as he turned to check on the remaining creatures.

But to his surprise, only about four were left.

He immediately sprinted forward; this was a good moment to finish them off and continue on his way.

The skeletons didn’t wait for him to lunge at them again — that was their first mistake. Before Levon could reach them, they began firing as many arrows as they could.

But it was no use; Levon still zeroed in on them without taking much damage.

He sliced through two of them in quick succession.

The other two tried to put up a fight — at least one did, while the other attempted to flee. But Levon wasn’t about to let even a single one escape.

He cut through the third skeleton with ease and quickly flung his sword at the one already making a run for it.

It struck the back of its head in one swift, decisive motion.

’That was quite a fight; should be at least 20 skeletal archers down,’ Levon thought as he headed straight for the corpse of the skeleton he had just taken out.

Then all of a sudden Paul stepped out from hiding.

"I must say you have quite a unique fighting style, but it’s nothing compared to mine. I know that sword of yours isn’t normal, and I want it," he said, stepping forward and snatching it from Levon’s hand in one swift motion.

Levon’s hand remained extended where the sword had been.

Empty.

For a moment, he simply stared at it.

Levon dropped his head, anger rising in his chest; he really didn’t have time for this nonsense.

"Just give me back my sword, and I’ll leave here without any trouble."

"Shut your damn mouth. You think you’re strong enough to take it back? If not for that sword, you’d have been finished by now. But that’s in the past — it’s my sword now," Paul said as he ran his hand slowly along the blade.

Levon was getting increasingly irritated, but he kept it off his face.

In his past life, this man was genuinely powerful — a privilege built entirely off stealing other people’s rewards.

But not this time.

"I’m giving you one last chance. I don’t like to repeat myself," Levon said calmly, raising his head.

Paul turned to his crew and they broke into loud laughter.

[Congratulations, you have killed 20 skeletal archers (+700 exp).]

[You have leveled up to level 5 — 40/1800.]

"Look at him, how pathetic." The laughter grew louder as the men began walking away.

That’s when Levon snapped. Good thing he had kept the goblin axe in his storage space.

He pulled it out swiftly and moved up behind them, his mood already past the point of patience.
