Chapter 25: Chapter 25: The Yandere experiment
Gre Ka Chu...
Back on Earth, she’d probably be called a yandere.
There were two ways to tame someone like that.
The first was through understanding.
To tame a yandere this way, one had to understand her emotional wavelengths—to constantly analyze her moods and behavioral patterns, discern what she was thinking, what she intended to do, and predict what she might do next.
Then...Simply indulge those whims.
Do that, and she would cling to your side, rarely wanting to leave. She would constantly seek your company and, more often than not, remain genuinely happy.
That path was reserved for those who truly loved the yandere in return and wished to build a life with her rather than change who she was.
The second path...Was control.
Know when to deny her, when to praise her and when to shut her down.
Alternate between validation and rejection just enough to leave her emotionally unsettled. Before long, she would begin questioning herself, desperately seeking your approval while constantly trying to prove her worth in your eyes.
It was a form of psychological manipulation.
Cruel...
Yet undeniably effective.
Gre Ka Chu was undoubtedly a yandere...
Or rather...
She would inevitably become one because of her newly awakened Obsession Skill.
If that was the case...
Then the first thing Roman needed to determine was how far the Skill had already progressed.
She certainly hadn’t reached its extreme.
Had she already reached that point, she would’ve done everything within her power to keep him inside that cavern—whether through pleading, deception, or even force.
An extreme yandere was little different from a ticking time bomb. Some became so consumed by their obsession that they no longer distinguished love from possession. Others found fulfillment in violence itself if it meant preventing separation.
He had to tread carefully.
Roman let out a quiet sigh as he rubbed his temple.
The pheromone toxin Gre Ka Chu had unconsciously released inside the cavern had been potent enough to cloud even his own judgment. For a brief moment, it had nearly made him abandon reason altogether and surrender to the intoxicating pleasure a mature female Magnari could offer.
Roman couldn’t afford to indulge in it.
Not when he had remained a virgin throughout his entire life even on Earth, The cost was too expensive.
Thankfully, he had managed to pull himself back before crossing that line.
Taking things slowly was the wiser choice.
Had Gre Ka Chu gotten her way today, she would’ve undoubtedly grown even more attached to those emotions. Magnari females of her age instinctively sought new emotional experiences, and if those feelings became intertwined with her Obsession...
Controlling her impulses afterward would become far more difficult.
"...I’ll need to test her."
Roman slowly lifted his gaze toward the three branching paths leading back toward the settlement.
Among them...
One led directly through the hunting grounds of several packs of mid and high-tier predators.
A suitable place.
Before he could think any further, he felt a gentle tug on his hand.
"Ite... Itero enigmtah niloka bi seeka de..."
(I’m... I’m sorry for what I did earlier...)
Her voice trembled with guilt as she sniffled softly between every few words.
Roman didn’t answer.
Without sparing her a glance, he calmly stepped onto the most dangerous path.
"Fotpro metero."
(Follow me.)
Gre Ka Chu quietly stared at his retreating figure before obediently following after him.
She didn’t dare ask any questions.
Instead...
She instinctively tried to understand his emotions.
[Unique Skill: Obsession (Passive) is in effect.]
As her entire focus settled upon Gre Ka Go, every subtle movement became impossible to miss.
The rhythm of his footsteps.
The slight stiffness in his posture.
The faint tension hidden beneath his otherwise calm expression.
’He...’
’He’s really angry...’
’Because of me...’
’Because I lost control of that Pheromone toxin...’
Her breathing gradually became uneven.
’What should I do...?’
’How do I make him forgive me...?’
’I need to fix this...’
’I have to...’
’I can’t let him hate me...’
[Character’s Mental Stability is deteriorating.]
Roman silently glanced over his shoulder.
Just as he had expected.
She had become so consumed by her own thoughts that she was no longer paying attention to her surroundings.
Exactly the response he wanted to confirm.
The deeper they ventured into the forest, the louder the growls of the Predators became.
Soon...
The entire forest echoed with distant howls.
A shadow suddenly burst from the undergrowth.
A mid-tier predator lunged toward Gre Ka Chu, taking full advantage of her distracted state.
Before its claws could reach her, Roman lazily swept his tail across its legs, throwing the beast off balance before calmly driving his spear deep into its abdomen.
A shrill cry tore through the forest.
Roman didn’t kill it.
Instead, he deliberately pierced several non-lethal weak points. Each strike forced another agonized scream from the beast.
One...
Then another...
Until its cries echoed throughout the surrounding forest.Exactly as he planned.
"Tsk! Gre Ka Chu!"
Roman growled, glaring back at her.
"Quetnori inseto mindoo!"
(Where’s your attention?)
The sudden reprimand instantly shattered her spiraling thoughts.
"Serakai... Serakai, Gre Ka Go!"
(I’m sorry... I’m sorry, Gre Ka Go!)
"Yetero grenaito werana. Gredo kaiyo. Netero prentoi etaina."
(You’re acting strange. Keep your guard up. We’re surrounded by predators.)
Roman hissed, both of his eyes calmly sweeping across the forest as more and more predators emerged.
Gre Ka Chu hurriedly followed his gaze.
As a veteran archer, she immediately retreated toward a safer position before readying her bow, quietly huffing to steady her breathing. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
’I need to focus...’
’I can’t disappoint him any more than I already have...’
Steadying herself, she carefully tracked every movement within the forest.
Roman stood at the very front, intercepting every charging predator while Gre Ka Chu supported him from behind.
The pressure was immense.
Her arrows lacked their usual precision.
Even so...
They were enough.
One after another, the smaller predators fell beneath her arrows while Roman effortlessly blocked, deflected, or swatted aside every creature that tried to reach her.
Gradually...
The battle settled into rhythm.
For a brief moment, Gre Ka Chu believed she had finally regained her composure.
The battle progressed smoothly as Roman stood firmly at the front, calmly intercepting every predator that rushed toward them while she supported him from behind with her bow. Whenever a beast lunged at him, he either blocked it with his spear or swept it off balance with his tail before she swiftly finished it with an arrow. The pressure was immense and her shots lacked their usual precision, but they were enough. One after another, the predators collapsed, and seeing the battle gradually settle into a steady rhythm, Gre Ka Chu quietly let out a sigh of relief.
Then, a sharp claw suddenly grazed Roman’s left forearm, leaving behind a shallow scratch.
Gre Ka Chu’s heart skipped a beat, but she immediately forced herself to calm down. It was only a scratch. Drawing another arrow, she quickly released it, piercing the predator’s eye before it could retreat any further. Her breathing steadied as she silently reminded herself to focus. She couldn’t afford to become distracted again. Roman, meanwhile, merely glanced at the wound before continuing to fight as though nothing had happened, his calm expression never changing in the slightest.
The forest, however, only grew more chaotic.
The cries of the wounded predator Roman had deliberately kept alive continued to echo through the surroundings, attracting even more beasts from deeper within the forest. Shadows emerged one after another between the trees as low and mid-tier predators slowly surrounded them from every direction. Roman calmly observed their movements while continuing to fend them off, carefully controlling the pace of the battle as though everything unfolding before him had already been accounted for.
Another beast suddenly slipped through the barrage and clamped its jaws onto Roman’s shoulder.
Fresh blood immediately flowed down his arm.
Gre Ka Chu froze.
The arrow she had just nocked remained suspended against the bowstring as her eight eyes locked onto the crimson blood slowly dripping from his shoulder. It made no sense. Gre Ka Go had hunted colossal predators whose mere footsteps shook the earth itself. Creatures like these shouldn’t have been capable of reaching him, much less injuring him. Yet the blood before her eyes was undeniably real.
Why...?
No matter how desperately she searched for an explanation, every thought eventually returned to the only answer that made sense to her.
It was because of her.
She had thought she was helping.
She had thought she was doing well.
But she wasn’t.
If her arrows had been faster...
If they had been more precise...
If she hadn’t allowed herself to become distracted...
Gre Ka Go would’ve never been injured.
[Character’s Mental Stability is deteriorating.]
Her breathing gradually became uneven as those thoughts endlessly repeated themselves inside her mind. She tightened her grip around the bow until her fingers trembled slightly, desperately trying to suppress the guilt threatening to overwhelm her.
’I need to shoot faster.’
’I need to become more accurate.’
’I can’t let him get hurt again.’
Roman quietly glanced toward her while driving his spear through another predator’s chest.
Just as he had anticipated.
The first wound had caused panic.
The second had pushed her toward self-blame.
Her Obsession wasn’t simply amplifying affection—it was gradually eroding her ability to think rationally whenever he was harmed. Every conclusion she reached revolved around herself. She never questioned his strength, nor the enemies surrounding them. Instead, she instinctively blamed her own shortcomings.
His hypothesis was becoming increasingly convincing.
Only one final observation remained.
Roman’s gaze shifted toward a larger predator lurking behind the others. He calmly calculated the creature’s speed, strength, and angle of attack before subtly adjusting his footing.
The beast lunged and Roman deliberately moved Just a fraction too slowly.
-Khwaaaakk!
A massive claw pierced through the side of his abdomen before violently tearing free, sending blood spilling from his mouth.
Gre Ka Chu’s mind went completely blank.
The scene before her became impossibly vivid.
The blood flowing from the corner of Roman’s lips...
The wound carved into his abdomen...
Even the droplets scattering through the air appeared crystal clear beneath her sharpened vision.
Her entire body trembled.
Gre Ka Go...
The one who had always stood before her like an immovable mountain...
Had suffered such a grievous wound.
Because of her.
She had failed him.
She had allowed herself to become distracted.
She wasn’t good enough to stand beside him.
[Character’s Mental Stability is deteriorating.]
Her thoughts spiraled further and further out of control.
’I failed him...’
’I let him get hurt...’
’I...’
’I wasn’t enough...’
Somewhere in the distance, she vaguely saw Roman’s lips move, as though he had said something to her.
She couldn’t hear it.
The surrounding growls.
The rustling leaves.
Even her own heartbeat.
Everything gradually faded away until only Roman remained within her vision.
The world blurred for the briefest of moments before abruptly becoming clearer than it had ever been before.
[Character’s Mental Stability is deteriorating.]
[Character’s Mental Stability is deteriorating.]
Something inside her mind quietly snapped.
"GREEEEEEEEEEEE KA GOOOOOOOOO!!"
Her anguished scream echoed throughout the forest as she instinctively reached into the quiver hanging behind her back. Without consciously realizing it, three arrows settled against her bowstring simultaneously—a feat that should’ve been impossible for the current Gre Ka Chu.
[Focus increased by 300%.]
[Willpower increased by 300%.]
[Physical Resilience increased by 300%.]
In that instant, every predator within the forest seemed to slow.
No...
It wasn’t the predators.
It was her perception.
She could see every twitch of muscle before they moved, every subtle shift in weight, every opening, every weakness. The overwhelming pressure that had clouded her judgment moments earlier disappeared entirely, replaced by an almost frightening clarity.
Without hesitation, she released the bowstring.
Three arrows shot forward like bolts of lightning, each one piercing a predator cleanly through the head.
Before their bodies had even collapsed, another three arrows were already nocked.
She repeated the action several time.
Her fingers moved with impossible speed, repeatedly drawing and releasing the bowstring until the muscles in her arms began tearing beneath the unbearable strain. Blood slowly trickled down her fingers, yet she felt none of it. The pain no longer mattered. Nothing mattered anymore.
There was only one thought left inside her mind.
Protect Gre Ka Go.
Arrow after arrow streaked across the battlefield with flawless precision. Predators attempting to flee were struck down before they had taken more than a few steps. Those hiding behind trees were pierced through the narrowest openings, while those charging from above were shot down before their claws could even descend.
Within moments, the deafening battlefield fell into complete silence.
Only the lingering scent of blood remained in the air.
