Chapter 11: Chapter 11: The First Descent.

[Descent Complete!]

As the notification finally faded, a strange sense of suffocation dragged Roman down, as if he would die any moment if he didn’t do something about the situation.

Thus, as per the situation’s demand, he tried his best to move, flailing around god knows where, thudding as he kept punching something that felt almost like a wall.

— Crackkk! Crackkkk!

As he continued his desperate struggle for breath and movement, a sudden cracking sound reached his senses. Following that came a bright, unsettling light.

A moment later, he could finally move his body. However, something felt oddly wrong — as if he could not stand or perform any major movement. His body itself felt strangely familiar, yet disobedient to his will.

Right when the discomfort started to rise further, he felt something akin to a hand on his back.

The hand effortlessly lifted his body.

He couldn’t properly form his thoughts. That’s how confused he was.

Slowly yet surely, he started to open what seemed to be his eyes. When he finally did, the view in front of him was blurry while the unease only grew stronger.

It was a feeling he had never experienced before.

As if, a moment ago, he had been using several eyes rather than just two.

Focusing his intent further, he could make out the view in front of him, but the unease still lingered at its peak.

Thus, he came to a decision to keep all of his senses, no, all of his eyes shut, and try to keep only two open.

As he did, the world finally stabilized.

He could see clearly... and hear crying noises beside him.

However, that was the least of his worries.

In front of him stood a figure with eight eyes open, ears lightly pointed, staring at him with what could only be described as mild worry.

A monster, from the perspective of any ordinary human.

Even so, oddly enough, this supposed monster felt in a way he could only describe as beautiful and even comforting.

As if his senses were systemized to find such a structure natural... even attractive.

The monster woman continued staring at him with worried eight eyes, her gaze shifting between the crying newborns and the cracked egg-like structures beside him.

— Krrrraaa! Shrrrraaaa! Kroii!

She called out at a deliberate, careful wavelength. Soon after, another creature presumably a male rushed in beside her, equally worried but slightly calmer.

They exchanged sounds, clearly communicating.

Then both of them turned their attention back to Roman, confusion evident in their posture.

The female monster gently nudged Roman’s closed eyes, trying to open them. However, Roman kept them shut.

’Quit doing that!’ Roman thought inwardly for the first time, as the haze in his senses finally dulled enough for coherent thought.

Seeing his reaction, the female lifted him gently with one hand, while the other picked up another crying newborn with wide-open eyes — comparing them both as if trying to understand the situation.

— Grrroi! Groooii!

She hummed toward the male, as if complaining or seeking reassurance.

’They must be wondering why my eyes are closed, and why I’m not crying like the others,’ Roman concluded, carefully analyzing their reactions despite not understanding their communication. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

’I should cry.’

He tried to force it. To actually cry.

’But... how does one cry? Looking back at my life, I never once cried. Did I?’

The male monster lightly patted the female’s back, calming her.

Roman shifted his gaze to the other newborns — all crying, slowly crawling toward their mother, dragging themselves along the ground, still unable to walk.

Five of them, excluding Roman.

’They look awfully similar to the Magnari I nudged into existence. So I’ve been born as a Magnari myself.’

Roman had always wondered how the Creator’s Creation skill would actually work. Maybe he would take over an existing body? Or simply appear as an extra being? He had never expected to experience birth itself.

It hadn’t even crossed his mind.

’It’s so realistic. I’ve played enough VR games to recognize that numb, detached feeling... but this is on a completely different level. No sensory dulling, no buffering. No wonder this game is so highly valued.’

His thoughts drifted through the sheer realism of it all until he felt a light tug on his chin.

The mother Magnari gently guided his mouth toward a scale on her chest. Warm liquid flowed in before he could process it.

It was hot, hot enough that any ordinary human child would have had their mouth burned instantly. Lava-like, yet not quite lava. Warm enough for Roman to instinctively accept it as food.

He had no memories of feeding from his own mother. No recollection of parents at all. His earliest memories stretched back to a dumpster, the place where he had been thrown away.

’This... is actually nice. It’s not milk... but it feels like something worth fighting a hundred gorillas over.’

The mother adjusted Roman against her chest, lowering him gently as a thick pale substance dripped from the scales beneath her jaw.

Around him, the other newborn Magnari fed with desperate urgency.

’Am I getting VIP treatment here? Maybe she thinks I’m... special?’

The thought made Roman let out a faint inward laugh. Being perceived as different even within his own creation, there was something ironically amusing about it.

And yet, here he was feeding from a monster mother, held in her embrace with quiet, deliberate care.

For someone like him... the feeling was something else entirely.
