Chapter 60: Chapter 60: To point

The council immediately gathered for the meeting.

They had more than a lot to discuss.

Morgana took her seat. She was always the first to arrive. She was usually considerably earlier than the others.

Everyone arrived earlier than usual. Everyone but Elijah. He arrived at his usual time.

He was never late to meetings anyway.

"So that was a bust," Bill said.

"Well, not exactly. We got ourselves an S-rank," Elsa replied.

"Yeah, except we were aiming a bit higher. So it was, in fact, a bust," Bill responded.

"What do we do now?" Arthur asked.

"What’s there to do?" Perzeus responded.

"We probably just continue our daily operations. Their circle has both prizes. We couldn’t even claim one."

"A complete waste of time," Perzeus added.

"Was it though?" Elsa asked.

"I mean, an S-rank is still pretty valuable. I think we’re selling ourselves short in this regard as well. It’s like, wouldn’t we want another Arthur on our side?"

"I know when compared to something as grandiose as the system wielder and a mage with Merlin’s potential, this would, in fact, feel like a bust. It’s not. I mean, when was the last time we’ve added an S-rank to our ranks?" Elsa ended.

She was making a lot of sense, even if the others didn’t want to outright acknowledge it.

"I guess I get your point," Bill said.

"We won’t continue on with daily operations," Morgana said.

"Elijah, you’re up."

"Huh?" Elijah reacted.

"I’ve barely made any progress. I have nothing to report on the faith circle. We’ve all been rather occupied this past day," Elijah commented.

"No, not that," she said.

"I’m talking about your convergence theory. That’s the key."

"We lost on this front, so we pivot," Morgana said.

"We’ve already confirmed the convergence must require at least four abnormality emergences, say calamities."

"This convergence only has two certainties that have emerged. Three at most if we count the faith circle," Morgana said.

The others didn’t seem to be following.

They didn’t need to, at least not yet. Morgana and Elijah were still brainstorming after all.

Elijah stood up. He was about to begin his role. free𝑤ebnovel.com

"Since an SSS-rank awakened, then chances are we shouldn’t be too greedy on that front and expect another mage like that."

"That would be pretty unrealistic."

"Let’s not be unrealistic."

"The rumored god-tier system already came into being. There’s no chance it’s something like that either." freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

"We’ll have to trace it back to previous emergences."

"Like with Vlad. He’s an S-rank. What if an S-rank on his level has already come into being?"

"What if we just have to find said person?" Elijah said.

"It could also not be this."

The other council members started to catch on.

No other party had realized there was a convergence. They were the first. At least, that was what they thought.

If they could act swiftly, then maybe they too could command an extreme force of their own.

They were wrong, however. One other faction had come to realize the current convergence. It was the Circle of Merlin.

This was the reason Solomon was not present.

He had located something.

He was sent to deal with the third emergence. The Council of Mages and the Circle of Merlin would clash much sooner than expected.

"So what other abnormality?" Bill asked.

"Well, what of a whole new class of mage?" Sun said.

"What do you mean?" Elijah asked.

"Well, you know, like what happened during the last emergence."

"The mage that descended from the rift."

"The one who put an end to those hordes of monsters," Sun ended.

"Well, of all the emergences, that’s the one we actually know the least about. It wouldn’t be smart trying to dig deeper or even theorize on that," Elijah commented.

"Well, I could dig deeper," Sun said.

"Then sure."

Elijah found it strange that Sun was so interested. He was being unusually assertive.

He found this strange, but he didn’t want to question Sun. Not right now.

Sun did, in fact, know something of this emergence.

The mage who fell from the sky.

This mage was summoned from a rift somehow. It barely made sense to the world at first, as this mage was never recorded to have been from Earth.

Merlin and his faction confirmed this.

"Another possibility would be if the—"

Elijah was about to speak before Morgana interrupted.

"There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you all," she said.

"It’s been bothering me, and I can’t, in good conscience, continue this meeting without at least stating it first."

"What is it?" they all asked.

"This isn’t the time for secrets, Morgana, so just spit it out and let’s continue," Elijah said.

She made a call.

It rang.

Someone picked up.

They heard an all-too-familiar voice.

It was Vlad.

"Dad, about the possession of the spoils," she said.

Elijah picked up on it quickly.

"Don’t tell me you promised to hand over whoever we’d won," Elijah asked.

"That’s crazy. So what if we had won one of the other two? You know, the system wielder or the SSS-ranker?"

Morgana couldn’t respond.

Vlad was on the line, but he wasn’t speaking.

"You were going to betray my trust. For some politics?" Arthur said.

He stood up. He nodded his head and was ready to take his leave.

He was disappointed he wouldn’t get to train the S-rank. He had just committed to training her that very morning.

"This was the condition he gave to assist us. I’m sorry," Morgana said.

Vlad finally spoke.

"I can’t believe this is why I was called."

"Arthur, please go sit down."

"I have no intention of taking your precious S-rank. It’s only an S-rank."

"You guys can have it."

"If that’s all, I’ll take my leave now."

The call was terminated.

Vlad felt insulted that Morgana would even think he would be interested in such a spoil.

"Nonsense," he said.

"I don’t know if you guys want to dwell on that or whatever. I’m sure we’re good," Elijah said.

"You’re good, right, Arthur?"

He replied with a shrug, brushing it off.

"Whatever."

"Morgana, it’s not your fault."

"Okay, that’s that."

"Back to point."

"I think I know how we can get to one of these emergences."
