Chapter 46: Chapter 46: The council meet
The Council members were now all seated.
"Let’s begin," Morgana noted.
"I mean, where do we even start?" Arthur asked.
"Let’s try to start slow."
"I know we are all feeling tense right now, but let’s try to calm down," Elijah said.
"I don’t quite think we have the time to take things slow."
"We have to employ drastic measures," Elsa said.
"No, we don’t want to go there."
"We don’t have to," Elijah replied.
"What choice do we have?"
"Dealing with one of them would be too much already."
"Now there’s another."
"Merlin’s Circle has never been this powerful," Arthur said.
"I agree," Perzeus said.
"I mean, how many of us can take on some of his top students?"
"That’s too much unchecked power for one man to command," Elsa said.
"Perzeus is right."
"We’ve all seen Solomon."
"There’s no way any of us is ignorant enough to take even him alone one-on-one," she added.
"Except Arthur."
"He’s ignorant enough," Bill said.
Cough. Cough.
"What did you say?" Arthur retaliated.
"We don’t have time for this," Morgana reiterated.
"Well, what does your dad think about all this?" Elijah asked.
"I don’t know."
"I really don’t know."
"I haven’t spoken to him," she replied.
"I know you don’t usually like this being brought up, but we have no choice."
"Have you considered seeking aid from your brother?" Bill asked.
She didn’t respond.
There was silence for about seven seconds.
"I can’t."
"He’s too..."
"He’s just too thick-headed," she said.
"Well, this is going nowhere."
"So what exactly do you suggest?" Perzeus intervened.
"The original plan was simple."
"We were to expend resources to get the God-Tier System wielder on our side."
"That fell apart," Morgana said.
"There’s no other loophole."
"Merlin’s Circle is downright all-powerful."
"Well, not yet," Bill added.
"I mean, the boys are still pretty new to this."
"I doubt that SSS-rank mage can hold a candle to anyone here."
"The God-Tier System wielder seems even less capable," Bill pointed out.
"And so?" Elsa asked.
"That still doesn’t mean anything."
"No, it does."
"We can plan something," Elijah said.
Everyone turned to him.
They didn’t quite get it, but he seemed to be on a roll.
This was something he often did.
"You’re obviously not suggesting we try to steal them from the Circle."
"There’s no way that works," Arthur pointed out.
"Well, yes and no."
"We won’t be trying to convince or manipulate them."
"It’s funny..."
"It’s funny because one of Merlin’s policies to slow down Vlad’s Circle can now be used against him."
"We need to face the Wise Men."
"You’re saying a bunch of nothing right now," Arthur shouted.
"No, I’m not."
"Just let me finish."
"Merlin can’t have both the SSS-rank mage and the God-Tier System wielder."
"He can’t."
"But he does," Bill pointed out.
"Well, not diplomatically."
"He can’t have them both."
"You guys remember back when Vlad recruited a bunch of S-ranks?"
"Merlin created a policy to stop that progression."
"The adoption of multiple high-tier mages would destroy the power balance."
"This wasn’t even one of our policies."
"It was his."
"Mage Protocol."
"Amendment of the 2000s."
"Chapter 6."
"Section 4B."
"Power Strides."
"A Circle may not adopt multiple top high-tier mages within a short time span."
"This was a ploy to let other Circles have a piece of the S-rank cake."
"We know this holds up."
"I mean, look at Solomon and Lot."
"What’s the other popular one called?"
"Joseph, right?"
"Well, I mean, they were all recruited at different times."
"This was..."
"I’m sorry to say it, but right now I’m only stating facts."
"This was the reason Morgana’s dad forsook his own son."
"He couldn’t take in two S-ranks."
"He settled for Goliath, I believe."
"Again, I’m not trying to trigger anyone."
"I’m just stating facts."
"If this could be presented before the Wise Men, and soon, then we’d definitely have a chance."
Elijah was finished.
He had been moving around the room as he presented his case.
Now he was seated.
"I knew you were leading to something," Arthur said.
’This could work,’ Morgana thought.
"I mean, what’s the timeline like?"
"A week or two at most between the God-Tier System wielder being recruited and the SSS-rank mage’s own recruitment," Elsa added.
"We have to hire a mage scholar to represent the Council."
"We’d pay a whole lot, though," Bill said.
"This isn’t the time to spare expenses, I guess," Perzeus said.
"I guess," Bill agreed.
They were all sharing opinions.
They were all sharing the platform.
Everyone except Morgana.
"This idea works."
"It does."
"But I need to consult my dad regardless," Morgana said.
"What?"
"That’ll take time."
"We have to act right now."
"We barely have time on our hands," Sun finally spoke.
He wasn’t the talking type. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
"I have to."
"I’m sorry."
"I’ll leave right now."
"My comms are connected."
"You may proceed with the planning." freewebnoveℓ.com
She plugged in her comms.
She pointed to them and spoke.
"I’m listening."
"I don’t think you leaving is such a good idea," Arthur said.
She noticed they all shared the same stance.
Vlad wasn’t a Council member.
This was their decision.
They believed she was blinded in the moment.
"I’m doing this, guys."
No one responded.
They remained unchanged in their decision.
"You can’t expect me to take something this delicate to the Wise Men," she said.
She was clearly getting emotional.
"This is my dad."
"My brother."
"The scholar is bound to cite their situation as an example to further our cause."
"I can’t prepare my brother for what’s to come."
"But my dad?"
"That much I can."
She finished.
Elijah knew there would be no point in trying to hold her back.
She had made her decision, and there was nothing they could realistically do.
"I guess we’ll continue."
"You’re connected via comms, after all," Elijah said.
She nodded and left.
"So what do we do should we win the case?" Elsa asked.
"Merlin always gives us a beating whenever we face the Wise Men."
"We have a very solid case this time."
"We’ve never really thought this far before."
"Yeah."
"What do we do?" Bill asked.
"I guess what you two are asking is who do we take on."
"How do we handle the separation of the two forces of absolute power?" Perzeus pointed out.
"Do we take Roe?"
"The SSS-rank mage with the potential to rival Merlin?" Elsa asked.
"Or do we go for the wielder of the fabled God-Tier System?" Arthur asked.
"I guess it depends on who you ask," Elijah said.
’Man.’
’This job is so hard,’ he thought.
