Chapter 30: Chapter 30: The second test no more
"Energy Type Talent. No. 5."
Roe chanted.
"Negative Energies."
It worked.
"He shouted."
"Guess there’s no need to get hold of the staff anymore."
Negative Energies attracts the largest energy source to the user.
Solomon was being drawn in.
"What? So he has more energy than the rest of us combined?"
"I expected the staff."
Solomon was being drawn in.
"No. 12. Electrical Energy."
Solomon made contact, and so did something else. A supercharged human body making contact with a regular human body.
Solomon was electrocuted. It still wasn’t enough to keep him down.
Roe had just made contact with the staff.
He flew up. Solomon pursued.
Roe wasn’t considering his teammate.
He had to give it his all or it would all be over.
’My stupid reserves.’
He looked back. Solomon was hot on his tail.
32 seconds.
A turn in the air.
Then another.
The chase was real. Both mages were zipping around. Luckily for them, they had all the heavens to themselves.
"I can’t believe he’s completely disregarding that guy. I feel bad for him," Modred said.
19 seconds.
"Not yet."
"Almost there."
"Almost."
"Almost."
He began panicking.
He’d been feeling this "almost," but he still wasn’t getting full.
’Could he suck at outputting just like me?’ Edward thought.
12 seconds.
"Come on. Almost."
Finally.
There.
5 seconds.
"Hey, big guy. Catch."
He threw the staff over to his roommate. He had just begun.
Solomon didn’t even pursue. He knew there would be no point to that.
The student was already out.
1 second.
"Time up."
"Curse you!" He shouted at the very top of his lungs.
"You evil, wicked—"
He got stopped in his tracks by Lana.
"This is still an evaluation, and I will not have you acting as you please. Am I clear?" she said.
He went back to wait.
There was really no point in waiting. He knew it. Lana knew it as well.
10 students had passed. Only five more could be added.
The next pair went forward.
They didn’t perform much better than last time.
Edward got paired up with someone else. Only one of them passed, like last time. However, unlike last time, he was the one who pulled through.
11 students.
Beatrix and Ursula did their retrial.
They both made it.
13 students.
The next sets of students, try as they would, made little progress.
Julian and his teammate had their next go at it.
60 seconds.
Then 14 seconds.
"Almost."
"Almost," Julian shouted.
"I can feel it."
"I can feel it."
2 seconds.
"Just one more second."
"And..."
"Time up."
"So close. So close. Damnit!" Julian shouted.
"Poor guy," Jack remarked.
"He won’t be so poor if I don’t make it as well."
Jack and his teammate were next.
60 seconds later.
"Damnit."
"I wasn’t even almost."
"I..."
"I... I barely did better than last time," he remarked.
13 students had passed.
There was still room for one more.
John and Gandy were up next.
They didn’t fare so well the first time.
They weren’t a particularly unique pair. It was two A-ranks with barely striking personalities. They didn’t make an impression.
John - A-rank - Shadow Talent.
Gandy - A-rank - Blood Talent.
60 seconds.
A blood beam was shot straight towards Solomon.
He dodged it.
The travelling beam emitted a shadow.
"Finally!" John shouted.
"Shadow Talent. No. 76. Shadow Variant."
Description - the shadow of whatever’s causing the cast becomes independent.
There were now two beams. One made of blood and another made from shadow.
John had full control of this shadow.
He didn’t separate the shadow from the blood beam until the beam was within range of Solomon.
Solomon dodged the blood beam.
The shadow struck.
He didn’t dodge the latter.
John wrapped his shadow around Solomon, squeezing him till he dropped the staff.
"Let’s go!"
31 seconds.
They began absorbing their mana.
Everyone else waiting for a retrial watched in shock.
"I hope they don’t make it," one said.
"They both can’t make it. Please," another prayed.
20 seconds.
Things weren’t getting any less tense.
10 seconds.
’Please, let me have my chance. Another chance,’ Julian prayed, hoping for a third. freeweɓnøvel.com
5 seconds.
The remaining mages began to fall. They realized they had little hope.
"Wait. If they don’t make it, then we’ll get another chance," one cheered.
The others followed.
There was hope again.
2 seconds.
Simultaneously, both said,
"Complete."
"Time’s up."
"It seems you both made it."
"I guess that’s a wrap for the second test," Lana said.
"15 students needed onward, 15 students provided."
-
The second test had concluded and the students were informed it remained just one final evaluation.
Solomon was the one who announced it.
"For the final test. You’ll face one mage. All fourteen of you. "
"Just one mage"? "How are we even going to be accessed?", Edward asked
"That’s no good". Modred said.
"Huh?"
"Your question. It’s no good. You’re not asking the right question."
"We’re 15 here, didn’t you notice he said 14?"
