Chapter 24: Chapter 24: The Masters nomination

Everyone expected the last match to be the most intense.

Everyone expected it to drag on for a bit as well.

It had every right to.

The match was between the top two sets, after all.

Joseph’s students vs Solomon’s.

The stakes were present.

Lot was even more surprised than Joseph.

He knew of Roe’s talents.

It didn’t make digesting the results any better.

Lot found this all really frustrating.

He sighed.

He realized he needed to maintain his composure or it wouldn’t be a good look.

His students made it.

This was all that mattered.

If Joseph’s boys couldn’t handle things, then he’d just have to depend on his own, he thought.

Joseph’s students weren’t all boys.

He didn’t seem to care. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

Lot was frustrated but, as expected, he wasn’t the only one.

"What was that just now?" Joseph shouted.

"The meter exploded."

"The weight overload. That’s impossible!" Joseph exclaimed.

He was rambling.

He was walking towards something at the same time.

He approached the mana meter that was still intact.

He placed his hands on it and shouted they should watch.

He released the highest output available to him.

He was a mage, so he clearly had a limit.

He was S-rank, however, so his limits were most certainly still abnormal.

"Watch this."

The mana meter was getting charged.

Lot used a time spell to restore the scale.

Despite not being instructed to.

The scale was tipping.

A full minute went by.

There was no explosion.

The scale never overloaded despite there being no load on the opposite side.

"You see what I’m getting at?" Joseph shouted.

"How did they do it?"

"I demand a retake," he said.

Solomon told him his complaints were baseless and would yield the same results.

It didn’t matter.

Joseph didn’t like Solomon’s dismissive tone.

He called upon the Code.

The Codes of Merlin.

Solomon asked if he was sure.

Lot was shocked.

More than anyone, he knew it was pointless challenging someone like Solomon.

The Code dictated that just a single attack and a single attempt be made.

Against Solomon, that’s a guaranteed loss.

’Doesn’t Joseph know this, or is he too blinded by rage to realize?’ Lot thought.

Both men drew their staffs.

This was the first time any of the students would bear witness to something of this scale.

The surroundings immediately changed.

They now appeared to be in a barren land.

This was a result of Solomon’s technique.

"Lot, do the call," Solomon said.

"Sure," he responded.

Both began to charge.

They were master mages.

There was no need to call forth spell names.

"Go."

Immediately, it landed.

The combat was over.

From the ground, Joseph was restored.

He’d now have to concede as per the Code.

The students were disappointed.

"Is that all?"

"Like, is it really over? Just like that?" one asked.

"I can’t believe it. All I saw was a flash," one of Joseph’s own students said.

In truth, the moment Lot gave the go-ahead, Joseph was already on the ground.

He’d already lost.

No questions asked.

The light that was seen was the attack Joseph initiated traveling towards Solomon, which ultimately didn’t land.

They both appeared back in the arena.

"Please continue," Solomon said to Victor.

"Now, all forty of you who lost, please step forward."

"Their masters, I’d like for you to step forward as well."

The students and masters did as instructed.

"I’ll give you an hour to make your decision."

"You may announce your decision much earlier."

"The next evaluation will proceed immediately after with almost no cooldown time," Victor ended.

Joseph never expected this. freēwebnovel.com

His students were ranked first.

They ranked this high not because they were exceptionally talented or anything.

His students were the best rounded.

It didn’t make sense.

It still didn’t.

Solomon acknowledged them.

He was the one who placed them so high.

Now he goes and does this.

Joseph thought.

’I’d never expected such an outcome.’

’I’d never looked at them individually or fostered individual growth, talent, or spells.’

’I’ve always believed in the collective,’ Joseph thought.

He really didn’t know what to do.

Who to pick.

The others weren’t having an easier time.

The masters organized the final round alone.

They didn’t know the proctor beforehand, except Solomon.

They didn’t know the tests beforehand, except Solomon.

The first master had made his decision.

The second followed not long after.

The third.

Then the fourth.

Solomon was the last to decide.

The other four announced their picks.

They apologized to their other students.

They claimed they had failed them.

"Okay, so Kahlan, Beatrix, Daniel, and Faux have been nominated to proceed by the masters of their respective sets," Victor announced.

"We are waiting on you, Master Joseph."

"Who do you nominate?" Victor asked.

"Time is running."

Merlin observed from his room. He made no comment, it’s not like if he did they could even understand what he meant.

They continued to wait for he’s decision. Joseph was just slow with his response.

Solomon understood and urged that he wasn’t rushed.

The second proctor was summoned in the meantime and introduced herself. She was disappointed that Victor only reduced the numbers down to 44. She deemed it a lot.

She wanted to work with a smaller group.

You see the proctors aren’t informed of what the others are doing for the evaluation. No one but the proctor is expected to know except Solomon of course.

She went to discuss with the students.

She introduced herself as Lana. She wasn’t discuss anything noteworthy or of substance with them. It was just pretty useless stuffs like favorite music and movies.

"I hope this questions have nothing to do with the evaluation", Roe thought .

She was having an issue asking just about every one of them . She stopped at Modred. She found him intriguing. He was the first she asked a question of significance. Sigman himself was shocked when he heard the question because he was asked about a social media post and Modred was being asked about he’s talent.

"What’s up with that"? Sigman thought.
