Chapter 20: Chapter 020: Dinner (3)
The floor behind Alam was split in two, forming a bottomless abyss in his Soul Domain that groaned like it was a gateway to another realm.
The Duke had stepped back just in time! By now, Selena had already conjured a defensive barrier of wind around her children while getting ready to jump into the fight if things showed a sign of going awry.
"Not bad, boy."
The Duke spat out a lump of blood, setting down his sword to crack his knuckles.
"Come on, Diamond Warden!" He picked up the sword, now fully covered in mana reinforced diamond. Unbeknownst to the duo, those diamond were nearly unbreakable as they had been slowly absorbing from Mikael’s celestial essence reserve! The great sword radiated with so much mana, that the mortality in Mikael instinctively drew back a little.
"Boy, it is said that in battle, men talk with their weapons."
Diamond-like scales began manifesting over the Duke’s body, effectively becoming an armor as he moved slowly towards Mikael.
Lucian smiled with pride. "Truly, the Diamond Tyrant of the Limnor family."
Even Selena could not help but smile too. The Duke had a tendency not to take things seriously, but his going into full battle mode meant he was done playing around.
"Let’s talk to our heart’s content!"
He sped off.
"Of course, Duke Alan."
Mikael readied himself for impact. Judging from the duke’s speed, his attack power would be overwhelming.
’Thankfully, his mana is keeping me going. I’d have been dead a long time ago.’
A single bead of sweat broke out on his forehead. This was going turning out to be a bit more troublesome than he’d planned.
The clash of their weapons sent out a powerful shockwave that pushed them both backward and cracked the ground beneath them, as well as to Selena’s barriers!
Alan’s eyes immediately narrowed as he zoned in on Mikael just as he moved
He was gone, reappearing beside the duke mid-strike. Scythe swinging in a diagonal arc.
But Alain had seen him, was ready for him.
CLANG!
Golden runes burst into the air, forming a barrier of light orange diamonds that sent Mikael sliding backward by several feet.
’ Ragnarok is nowhere near its full power. If this goes on much longer, I’ll have to go on the defensive, and that would be a problem for me,’ Mikael mused.
But Duke Alan didn’t pause. His body blurred, launching himself at Kael with astonishing speed.
Kael faced him head-on and parried with all his might as each strike caused the air to tremble violently.
"Is that all you have, Duke? Crystals?"
"Not at all, Mikael!"
Selena’s forehead slightly furrowed in frustration. There were two powerhouses fighting, yet they seemed to be enjoying themselves. ’ Men.’
’He’s getting faster,’Kael noticed, defending against another heavy blow. He saw an opening he could not miss and so he went for it!
BAM!
In one impossibly fast motion, he threw a jab at the Duke’s ribs. And the following sound showed that his efforts had yielded.
CRACK!
Alain skidded backward, blood dripping from the corner of his mouth. The jab was more powerful than he’d expected, enough to severely injure him.
"You’re good, kid," Alain admitted.
" Shall we end this?" Mikael asked, now swirling the scythe continuously,at great speeds. " In one strike!"
Alan smiled. He pointed his sword toward the floor.
"Let’s end this discussion."
A gigantic figure began manifesting behind him. The figure was almost just like the duke, wielding a greatsword but made with light green diamonds.
Selena reinforced the barriers around them.
This was her husband’s final move: Absolute Dominion, a physical attack that used all absorbed mana to boost physical strength to the max and striking down the already weakened enemy!
Kael could barely control himself with joy. He felt that this attack was too powerful and could injure him seriously. Yet a smirk subconsciously appeared on his face.
Why was he was smiling?
He was seeing a rather massive feast before him. Which would probably cause him a lot of pain later on, but still a feast nonetheless.
To fuel that kind of massive attack, the Duke must be infusing a great quantity of mana into it. His eyes glowed, taking on a brighter hue.
"Your Grace!" He took a sprinting stance.
"Yes, Mikael!"
"Thank you!!!"
"Mountain Crusher!"
The diamond figure moved, swinging down its massive sword over Mikael, with all its strength!
The duo clashed with something akin to ecstasy.
The Dominion crumbled and scattered as the battling figures clashed.
And in the eye of the storm’, Mikael and the Duke exchanged a few hundred blows.
Eventually they stopped, panting heavily.
However...
A blade hovered just before Alan’s throat though he, the victor was not in a good shape himself.
The domain shattered, revealing the dining hall, with its roof blown sky high!
The duke was frozen in place. Not because of Mikael’s will, but because Mikael’s essence had greatly weakened his core. The diamond armor on him also disappeared slowly, alongside the remnant of the barrier.
Only his trusty sword remained.
Kael stepped back panting.
"Checkmate, Duke. I won."
Alan coughed once, then smiled. "Interesting."
Throughout their fight, he had noticed one little detail.
Kael was never out for the kill. No bloodlust right from the beginning. If anything, he seemed to have been enjoying a good spar. Then again, he himself never went all out, lest he destroyed their home.
Deep down, Mikael was throwing what Adrian’s memories called a carnival.
The amount of mana Ragnarok had absorbed had been enough to unlock part of its power and was enough for Mikael to take on three to five of the Duke! Mikael also had a eureka moment as to why his backlash was delayed.
Ragnarok’s appearance was the cause, and it seemed to be able to absorb energy, essence, just like its creator. A fact Mikael had completely forgotten! As to how it delayed the backlash, he had no idea. Ragnarok had always been a source of mysteries for the former Sovereign.
"Tell me, Kael, you never intended to kill anyone here, did you?" The Duke asked, standing slowly. His wife had wanted to come assist him but he gestured her that he was fine.
Kael grinned so wide he’d give a watermelon a run for its money.
"Of course not, Duke. If I had killed someone here, the rest of your family would’ve gone berserk and I’m still a tad too young to visit the grave. Not after barely escaping one."
He frowned, his eyes glowing again. "I’ll be taking the throne now."
