Chapter 95: Chapter 94: New Managerial Authority

Ye Yun assigned No. 1 and No. 3 to clean up the battlefield and sent No. 2 to scout the shelter’s vicinity for any other dangers. He, Bena, and one other person then returned inside the shelter.

Back in the shelter, Ye Yun opened the public chat room.

The chat, which was usually flooded with messages, was now nearly empty.

This was understandable, though. During such a tense time, most managers were busy dealing with the crisis and had no time for idle chatter.

During the previous mutated cockroach attack, many managers had time to chat. This was mainly because the cockroaches’ attack power was too low. Even with several of them attacking at once, it would still take them a while to break down a Shelter Entrance.

However, this attack by large mutated creatures was a different story.

The attack power of these large mutated creatures was clearly far greater than the mutated cockroaches’, and most people lacked the extra resources to upgrade their [Shelter Entrance (White)].

With an un-upgraded Shelter Entrance’s pathetic 10 points of defense, it would likely be shattered in just a few hits.

Ye Yun glanced at the messages in the chat room. Most of them were warnings about mutated creatures and urgent pleas for help.

"Urgent request for help! A giant Mutated Rhino is attacking my shelter. Does anyone know this thing’s weaknesses? I’m willing to trade half my resources for any genuinely useful information!"

"HELP!!! White-grade weapons can’t even break its defense! I need to buy three Green-grade weapons. I’ll pay you back with the resources from the reward after this crisis is over!!"

"Looking to trade 5 Green components for a high-power, destructive item. Serious inquiries only. DM me directly if you have one."

"Damn it! The thing at my door is a pangolin covered in scales. Fucking hell, it’s a walking fortress! How am I supposed to fight this thing?!"

·············

What few messages there were consisted entirely of pleas for help and desperate cries.

Behind each message lay the despair and helplessness of countless shelter managers.

A flicker of sympathy stirred within him. The resources he currently possessed could indeed help many of them.

But he was also well aware that there were far too many people in this situation. ’Even if I wanted to help, how many could I possibly save?’

As for the rewards they promised to pay afterward, that was even less reliable. Once he gave someone the means to survive the crisis, they could simply pretend the arrangement never existed.

Pushing the thoughts from his mind, Ye Yun closed the public chat room.

Just as he closed the chat room, No. 1 and No. 3 finished clearing away the corpses outside.

·······

This wasn’t the first time Ye Yun had killed a large mutated creature, so he considered the loot to be merely average: a dozen or so Green components and one Blue component.

Ye Yun was nonchalant about this haul. He was more interested in what rewards he would receive for successfully surviving this second crisis.

Ye Yun sat quietly in his chair, his eyes fixed on the shelter count in the top-right corner of his system interface.

86,000,000...

84,000,000...

81,000,000...

The number was dropping much faster this time.

After all, given the sheer size of these large mutated creatures, if one actually broke through a Shelter Entrance, the manager’s personal stats would make any resistance futile.

But as time passed, this frantic decline finally reached a turning point.

After the number of shelters dropped to 75,000,000, the rate of decline slowed considerably.

The number stopped its frantic plunge. After another hour, it stopped changing completely. In the end, only 74,200,000 shelters had survived the second crisis.

The instant the number stopped ticking down...

The alien voice that had appeared in everyone’s minds ten days ago once again echoed in Ye Yun’s ears.

[Congratulations, you have successfully survived the second crisis.]

[As for those managers who died, I can only say it is most regrettable.]

[Twenty days of preparation, and they couldn’t even handle such a simple attack. It only proves that such people are not fit to live on this dangerous planet.]

[They have lost their lives forever. At the same time, some of the supplies inside their bases will become treasures buried beneath the ruins.]

[These treasures will be rewarded to the managers who were the first to successfully kill the large mutated creatures.]

[In these twenty days, some people were still struggling to get by around their shelters, while others have already noticed they are not alone on this wasteland.]

[However, whether this contact is a blessing or a curse, no one can say for sure.]

[Furthermore, through this period of exploration, you seem to have discovered traces of other shelters near your own.]

[What do you plan to do about these nearby shelters?]

[Your individual coordinates will now appear randomly on others’ maps.]

[An even more brutal crisis will descend again in 10 days.]

[All shelter managers, please proceed with caution.]

[Of course, those of you who successfully survived will also receive some rewards.]

The alien’s words faded.

Ye Yun discovered several new notifications in his system.

[You have unlocked new Managerial Permissions.]

[You can now establish a second shelter.]

[You have obtained the coordinates of a shelter.]

[You have obtained the coordinates of an abandoned shelter.]

[You have obtained 1 random Blue weapon blueprint.]

[You have obtained 5 random Blue components.]

Seeing these system notifications, Ye Yun showed little sign of joy. Instead, his expression turned grave.

He didn’t bother checking his rewards. Instead, he immediately opened his map.

On the previously blank map, two small stars had appeared: one black, one red.

These two locations represented the coordinates of the abandoned shelter and the shelter of a survivor, respectively.

Judging by the distance between the two coordinates, Ye Yun estimated it would take about 24 hours to reach them on foot.

But on a motorcycle, assuming no mishaps and decent road conditions, the journey would only take about 6 to 7 hours.

Ye Yun immediately placed a marker on the location of the abandoned shelter he had found ten days ago.

Looking at the locations of these three shelters, a bold idea immediately took shape in Ye Yun’s mind.

’If my guess is right,’ he thought, ’the distance between shelters is probably uniform. Even if it’s not exact, it must be very close.’

Suddenly, an even more terrifying thought surfaced in his mind.
