Chapter 93: Chapter 92: The Second Crisis

After all, this wasn’t some single-player game.

Different shelters had different development and operational strategies.

In this wasteland, they weren’t the only shelter administrators; there were also all sorts of factions, both large and small.

Ye Yun glanced at the ID card in his hand. It was just like a token from a game.

With this, he could raise his affinity with some faction NPCs from "Stranger" to "Neutral" or even "Friendly."

If used well, he could very likely establish a connection with the Academy.

Since he could obtain one, others surely had a chance to get one too.

If he successfully made contact with mega-factions like the Academy and the Steel Brotherhood, he might easily obtain rewards far exceeding what others could get.

Or, with a huge stroke of luck, he could obtain some powerful item early on.

For instance, the exoskeleton suit he had just acquired today.

Right now, the mainstream equipment for everyone was White or Green tier. A single piece of Blue-tier equipment could create a crushing advantage.

Just by luckily obtaining a single Blue or even Purple-tier item or piece of equipment, a shelter’s strength could potentially jump from the second tier to the first.

Considering all these factors, Ye Yun had always been cautious. Most of the time, he wasn’t aiming for great achievements, but simply to avoid making mistakes.

After all, this wasn’t a game, nor was it playing house. One wrong move could lead to irreversible doom.

Therefore, in his view, he could never be too careful.

To be honest, he didn’t think there was anything wrong with his current development strategy.

However, the shelter had clearly hit a development bottleneck.

He had already upgraded all the buildings he could. The remaining ones either had requirements that were too high, or they lacked key items.

As for the shelter’s internal space, a similar problem had emerged.

To expand the shelter’s interior from nine spaces to ten now took 96 hours.

Subsequent upgrades would only take longer and longer.

Without finding a way to break through, the shelter’s strength would stagnate.

To break the current stalemate, he would probably have to venture outside.

Ye Yun glanced at the ID card in his hand again. The Academy, over 2,000 kilometers away, was something he couldn’t consider for now.

His current strength was nowhere near enough to undertake such a plan.

However, October Town, a day’s journey away, might be worth exploring.

Of course, all of this depended on successfully surviving the second crisis.

Amidst his tangled thoughts, Ye Yun drifted off to sleep.

Ye Yun didn’t send Bena and the others out to explore again.

Although he could still arrange some short, several-hour exploration missions.

With the assessment system, he didn’t have to worry about the risk level.

However, the second crisis was less than twelve hours away.

Ye Yun decided to have everyone rest up and conserve their energy so they could face whatever might happen in peak condition.

As time ticked by, the atmosphere in the chat room grew tense.

A large number of red dots also appeared on Ye Yun’s chat list.

At first, he thought these people had something important to say, but after randomly clicking on a few, he found they were all just trying to freeload equipment and items from him.

Ye Yun had no patience for these cyber-beggars and blocked them all instantly.

Twenty days wasn’t a long time, but it definitely wasn’t short either. Even with average luck, it was entirely possible to trade collected junk at the exchange for a few sets of decent gear.

There was no point in helping people who couldn’t even scrounge together their own equipment.

Ye Yun closed the chat list. He knew this wasn’t the time to be focusing on such things.

Glancing at the newly acquired exoskeleton in the warehouse, he wondered whether he should equip it himself or give it to Bena.

After thinking for just a moment, he made his decision.

’It would be better to give it to Bena.’

Although wearing it would increase his own survival chances to some extent, his combat experience was far inferior to Bena’s, and his personal stats were lower too.

Without the member system and its loyalty stat, he might have worried that a shelter member becoming too powerful would lead to them staging a coup.

But with the member system and the control of loyalty, Ye Yun had no such worries.

’Powerful equipment like this will only reach its full potential when worn by the right person.’

He turned and looked at Bena, who was organizing his gear.

"Bena, come over here for a second."

Hearing Ye Yun’s summons, Bena immediately stopped what he was doing and hurried over.

"Administrator, what are your orders?"

Ye Yun pointed to the exoskeleton suit.

"Try this suit on. See if it fits."

Bena’s gaze fell upon the exoskeleton, a flash of surprise in his eyes.

"Administrator, this... this is too valuable."

Ye Yun waved his hand dismissively.

"When facing a crisis, nothing is too valuable. What matters is whether it can be used to its fullest potential."

Bena knew the Administrator’s decisions were always decisive. He didn’t refuse again, but nodded seriously.

"I will do my best to bring out its full potential."

Ye Yun had Bena put on the exoskeleton immediately and begin practicing with it inside the shelter.

With all preparations complete, Ye Yun quietly held his weapon and began to wait.

「In the public chat room.」

"I wonder what it’ll be this time."

"Last time it was mutated cockroaches. This time it’s probably a large mutated creature!"

"I think so too. My exploration team has already hunted more than one large mutated creature. Not worried at all!"

"I’m screwed! My exploration team didn’t make it back in time!"

"Is the guy above me an idiot? This isn’t the first time. How could you make such a stupid mistake?"

"All I have left in my shelter is one regular wastelander and a half-crippled bionic. This wave is probably a death sentence. See you guys on the other side."

"A moment of silence for the guy above."

Time ticked by, second by second, and the tense atmosphere inside the shelter grew thicker.

The ten-day countdown finally hit zero under everyone’s tense gaze.

A deep, muffled roar came from outside the shelter.

The roar was very faint, clearly still some distance from the shelter.

No. 2, who was already posted at the observation window, glanced outside and immediately turned to report to Ye Yun.

"Administrator, a mutated hyena has appeared outside the shelter’s entrance tunnel! It’s about three meters long. Please give your orders!"

Hearing that it was just a three-meter-long hyena, the knot of tension in Ye Yun’s chest finally loosened.
