Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Development Bottleneck
By now, the shelter’s population had reached six, and quite a few new buildings had been unlocked.
Soon, a new building appeared in his view.
[Robot Storage Bay]
[Robot Capacity +1]
[Construction Requirements]:
[Power: 20] [20/20]
[Construction Robot: 1] [1/1]
[Building Maintenance Requirement]: [Power: 0.1/hour]
[No available space in the shelter. Please upgrade the shelter to acquire more construction space.]
Ye Yun immediately clicked the [+] next to "Available Slots."
[Expand shelter space?]
[This expansion requires one construction robot to work for 48 hours and will consume 200 of the shelter’s power.]
The corner of Ye Yun’s mouth twitched as he looked at the upgrade requirements.
The last upgrade had only taken 24 hours.
This time, upgrading from eight slots to nine had somehow jumped to 48 hours.
Based on that progression, the next upgrade, from nine slots to ten, would take 96 hours.
Ye Yun instantly realized a serious problem.
Construction space within the shelter was, in itself, a relatively precious resource.
With each successive upgrade, expanding the shelter’s interior would become an increasingly difficult uphill battle.
To upgrade from ten slots to eleven, he would need a full 192 hours.
This meant future upgrades would be incredibly time-consuming. It was entirely possible that one construction robot would be permanently tied up with work.
However, he also immediately realized something else.
He had to upgrade as soon as possible. The longer he waited, the more time it would take. As more situations arose later, he might not have the time to spare for upgrades at all.
Ye Yun didn’t hesitate, despite the upgrade tying up a construction robot for a significant amount of time.
This kind of foundational upgrade had to be prioritized.
The brand-new third construction robot was immediately assigned to the expansion project.
[47:59:59]
Ye Yun shook his head helplessly as he watched the expansion countdown timer.
He’d originally thought that having a new construction robot would allow him to rapidly increase his income.
But now, it seemed that was impossible in the short term.
Still, an income of 33 green components per day was already quite good.
In two days, once the [Robot Storage Bay] was built, his income could continue to grow.
Although his idea of frantically buying construction robots to expand his production lines was nipped in the bud, he hadn’t come away empty-handed.
Ye Yun opened his private chat rooms.
[Just a heads-up to everyone: upgrade your shelter’s construction space as soon as you can. The time required for each upgrade doubles.]
Ye Yun’s reminder immediately caused an uproar in all three private chat rooms.
After closing the private chats, Ye Yun posted the same message in the public chat room.
There was no reason to keep this information to himself; it could seriously impact everyone’s future progress.
He paid no mind to the praise or the doubt that followed. The ones who listened were the ones he aimed to help. As for those who were too stubborn to listen, if they died, they died.
Ye Yun:
[Buying [Data Chip (White)] again. Price is 120 white components. Send a direct trade if you have one.]
He closed the chat room and opened his system panel again.

Ye Yun stroked his chin. The shelter had clearly hit a bottleneck.
Right now, the fastest way to increase the shelter’s combat effectiveness was to increase its population, but the only type he could add were regular humans.
So far, however, aside from Lina and Bena, he had only met two other native humans: Xisuo and Simon.
Those two brothers were incredibly strong. Ye Yun felt that even Simon, the weaker of the two, could easily crush Bena.
Unfortunately, neither of the brothers had any intention of joining the shelter. Otherwise, the shelter’s strength would have taken a huge leap forward.
’Maybe I should see if I can find an ordinary person out in the wasteland to join my shelter?’
He quickly dismissed the idea, however. While there was still one open slot for a regular resident, casually bringing just anyone in would likely be a waste of that slot. If he was going to recruit someone, it should be someone more capable. An ability user with powerful combat skills, like Xisuo or Simon, would be the best choice.
Acquiring [Data Chip (White)] was still relatively easy. The item didn’t seem to be particularly rare, and soon Ye Yun had another seven in his possession.
Without hesitation, he used them to upgrade Bionic No. 3.
Name: No. 3 [+1]
Strength: 4
Perception: 4
Endurance: 4
Charisma: 4
Intelligence: 4
Agility: 4
Luck: 4
Durability: 100% [Repairable]

Available Card Slots: 1
Seeing the available card slot, a thought struck Ye Yun. ’That’s right! Most people don’t have enough resources to upgrade their bionics yet.’
’Doesn’t that mean there’s no real market for the skill cards that go in those slots?’
At this thought, Ye Yun immediately opened the Exchange.
He immediately saw the skill cards listed for sale.
[Skill Card: Agility (White)]
[Description: After installing this skill card, the bionic will gain the Haste skill.]
[Skill Effect: Agility +1]

[Skill Card: Combo Strike (Green)]
[Description: After installing this skill card, the bionic will gain the Combo Strike skill.]

[Skill Card: Evasion (Green)]
[Description: After installing this skill card, the bionic will gain the Evasion skill.]
[Skill Effect: When facing a non-area-of-effect attack, there is a 10% chance to evade it completely, taking no damage.]
Price: 330 White Components
...
Just as he’d thought. Since most shelter managers weren’t even willing to upgrade their bionics, many people were willing to sell items that could only be used on upgraded ones.
Not only was there a wide variety, but the prices weren’t too high either.
White-rarity skills were generally priced between 120 and 160 white components. Green-rarity skills were a bit more expensive, but their prices were still within the 300 to 400 white component range.
He ignored the white-rarity skill cards. Compared to the green ones, they were just too weak.
