Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Maxed-Out Loyalty

Hearing Ye Yun’s explanation, Bena was dizzy with disbelief.

He’d initially heard Ye Yun mention a "but" and thought such a wonderful injectable would come with some nasty side effect. Upon learning it merely couldn’t eliminate the radiation completely, he breathed a sigh of relief.

A glimmer of hope flashed in Bena’s eyes. His lips trembled, too emotional to speak.

Lina gripped her brother’s hand tightly, her own eyes filled with anticipation and gratitude.

After a long moment, Bena bowed his head deeply.

"Thank you for the grace of giving me a new life, Administrator. From now on, my life is yours."

Ye Yun waved his hand dismissively.

"Bena, sit down. I’ll inject you with the De-Rad."

Bena did as he was told and sat, while Ye Yun carefully prepared the De-Rad injection.

He knew that while the medicine could lower radiation levels, the injection process could be uncomfortable, so he tried to get Bena to relax.

"This might sting a little. Just bear with it," Ye Yun advised.

Bena nodded earnestly, even though he wouldn’t normally make a sound when injured fighting mutated beasts.

But since this was a sign of the Administrator’s concern, he would absolutely take it seriously.

Ye Yun carefully inserted the needle into Bena’s vein and slowly pushed the plunger, injecting the De-Rad into his body.

As the medicine flowed in, an expression of pain immediately appeared on Bena’s calm face. A dozen veins bulged on his forehead, but he gritted his teeth and made no sound.

Ye Yun observed his reaction until the entire dose was administered. "Alright, that’s it."

Ye Yun withdrew the needle and gently pressed a sterile cotton ball on the injection site. "How do you feel now?"

Bena took a deep breath, carefully sensing the changes in his body.

The medicine injected into him felt like streams of heat flowing through every part of him.

He looked down at his arms, his face a mask of disbelief.

The countless black and purple blotches of all sizes on his hands were actually fading and disappearing before his very eyes.

"I feel... I feel much better. My body feels a little lighter."

"The radiation spots on my body are starting to fade, too,"

he said, overjoyed.

Ye Yun nodded and opened the member list.

Seeing the change in the other man’s stats, Ye Yun knew the De-Rad was starting to work.

What surprised him a little was that as the man’s radiation level dropped, his Charisma had actually increased from 1 to 2.

"This is a normal reaction. The De-Rad will help your body expel the radiation.

However, your internal radiation level is still quite high. The medicine will continue to work for a while, so you need to rest well and let your body recover naturally."

Hearing this, Lina quickly said, "We will! Thank you, Administrator!"

Ye Yun waved his hand, signaling that they didn’t need to be so formal.

"You’re my people now. I’ll do everything I can to protect you."

"Alright, Number 1, take them to the dorms to wash up. After that, they should get some rest."

Following Ye Yun’s orders, Number 1 led Bena and Lina toward the dorms.

The shelter wasn’t large, and a few moments later, the two arrived at the dormitory.

Although the dorm hadn’t been upgraded and was a bit crude, it was far better than their previous environment.

At least here in the shelter, they didn’t have to take turns on watch even while sleeping. They didn’t have to guard against attacks from ubiquitous mutated creatures, or risk being abducted by some random gang of wasteland bandits. They wouldn’t end up as a for-sale organ in a cooler, or be sold to some faction as a slave.

With Number 1’s help, the two finished washing up and changed into clean clothes provided by the shelter.

Bena lay on the bed, savoring the feeling of ease and comfort in his body—a sensation he hadn’t experienced in a very long time.

He looked at his sister, Lina, beside him. Her eyes also shone with relief and hope.

Bena secretly swore to himself that he would repay Ye Yun’s kindness with his own strength and contribute to the shelter’s development.

While the two rested, Ye Yun turned his attention to the food and water situation.

The warehouse originally had a certain amount of food and water in storage.

However, since he had only planned for himself, the reserves were only enough to last for 20 days.

But now, with two extra mouths to feed in the shelter, the 20 days of supplies had suddenly shrunk to just 7.

Still, Ye Yun wasn’t too worried.

The rations for two extra people just meant running the water purification room and food workshop for a few more hours each day.

On the other hand, now that he had two living people with him, he could perhaps learn more about the outside world.

Seeing that it was getting late, Ye Yun didn’t linger outside and returned to the dorm.

The shelter currently only had one un-upgraded 4-person dormitory.

Although Ye Yun was a bionic man, he was such a highly advanced model that he not only needed to eat and drink, but also to sleep.

Knowing the two were already asleep, Ye Yun made a point to move quietly.

However, the hiss of the airtight door opening still made Bena’s eyes snap open in an instant. His hands tensed instinctively, ready to defend against a possible attack.

But when he saw it was Ye Yun at the door, he relaxed. He had thought the Administrator had some important instructions for him.

However, when he saw Ye Yun carefully walk over to a bed on the other side to sleep, he was utterly shocked.

In his eyes, an exalted being like the Administrator would never, under any circumstances, live in the same dorm as common people like them.

Even if the shelter only had one dorm, Ye Yun should be the one living in it, while they probably only deserved to sleep in the hallway or by the gate.

In the apocalypse, the divisions of class and status were more pronounced than ever before. The strong and the leaders always enjoyed special privileges, while ordinary people could only accept their reality.

Bena’s respect and gratitude for Ye Yun grew even deeper.

He realized that Ye Yun wasn’t the kind of aloof, unapproachable administrator, but a true leader who genuinely cared for ordinary people like them.

This made his loyalty to Ye Yun and his sense of belonging to the shelter even stronger.

「The next day.」

?????

Staring at the suddenly maxed-out loyalty, Ye Yun was a bit baffled.

’A good night’s sleep raises loyalty? Did he think the bed was just that comfortable?’

However, Ye Yun’s idle thoughts were soon distracted by something else.

With most of the radiation cleared, Bena’s stats had risen slightly again. This was a pleasant surprise.
