Chapter 66: Chapter 65: Bear Goblin

With his leg continuously bleeding and his Mobile Fortress destroyed, Yu Gangbo was doomed. The moment the Undead dragged him outside, his will to live vanished, and he fell into a coma.

Two Undead followed the City Lord’s orders and stood guard over Yu Gangbo, waiting for him to breathe his last so they could collect his corpse.

The rest of the Undead were quickly clearing the battlefield. Wooden planks and other debris could be ignored—it didn’t matter if they were left behind—but the corpses had to be taken away first. They were, after all, what the Undead cherished most.

Cleaning the battlefield didn’t require many Undead. Knowing more enemies were on their way, the Undead reformed their ranks in front of the fortress. They gathered into a solid mass, silently watching the horizon.

In the Undead Main Tower, goblin corpses were piled up, forming a small mountain. Beside this mountain of goblins was another pile: the corpses of the Goblin Cavalry’s mounts, those dog-like creatures. Finally, two Undead dragged in Yu Gangbo. The Goblin City Lord was now breathless, as dead as one could be, and was tossed onto the very top of the goblin corpse pile.

Li Ziyu gave the pile a cold glance and ordered the system to begin decomposition.

...

The scorching sun hung high in the sky, and the temperature in the Wasteland was rising rapidly. The air shimmered, and on the horizon, indistinct black shapes began to sway. The goblins had arrived. A huge wave of enemies was approaching.

Liu Xingxing organized the Minotaurs, arranging for them to take temporary shelter inside his own fortress to avoid any friendly fire.

Li Ziyu stood at the window, gazing at the approaching goblins. After estimating their numbers, he breathed a small sigh of relief. As he’d predicted, there weren’t thousands of them—only a few hundred. His several thousand Undead could easily handle them.

The wild goblins ran and leaped, letting out strange, squawking cries. Clustered together, they were filled with courage, feeling invincible once more. Numbers were the source of their courage, the foundation of their arrogance!

They were a chaotic mob, with no semblance of a formation. A disorganized rabble, they subscribed to the philosophy that numbers alone made them king. At the very rear, a dozen or so goblins strained to carry a crude palanquin. On it sat a pot-bellied goblin wearing a "crown" woven from dried twigs, an arrogant look plastered on his face.

As the dust settled, the towering Undead Main Tower became visible in the distance.

A Goblin Cavalryman riding a Sharp-toothed Earth Dog came before the palanquin and babbled a stream of gibberish. The gist of it was: the enemy is ahead, what are your orders?

The Goblin Leader struggled for a moment before managing to stand up with some difficulty. He peered into the distance, looking like a trained monkey performing a trick.

’How is this different from before?’

’But that doesn’t matter. With so many goblins under my command, I have nothing to fear!’

"Attack!"

The Goblin Leader pointed a finger in the direction of the Undead and let out a sharp, piercing shriek. The wild goblins instantly went berserk, charging toward the Undead Fortress with a cacophony of frantic cries.

They were too far away to even make out who the enemy was, or what Race they belonged to. Regardless, the "vast" number of goblins gave him all the confidence he needed. No one could possibly resist his great Goblin Corps. Pillage everything!

Leading the charge was the Goblin Cavalry on their Earth Dogs, followed by several hundred goblins. Mixed in among these little green monsters were the much larger Bear Goblins.

Watching the goblins charge, Li Ziyu scratched his head. ’These guys really are dumb,’ he thought. ’Can’t they count? Can’t they see who has the superior numbers? Where did they get the nerve to attack me?’

"Yaaah! Aaargh! ...Huh?"

The Goblin Cavalry on their Earth Dogs, charging at the very front, were the first to get a clear look at the enemy. It was a mass of bony frames with ignited skulls, and there were no other living creatures in sight.

’Is this supposed to be a threat?’

’Do they think a pile of bony frames will make us afraid?’

’We’re the Goblin Corps, an army of hundreds!’

Facing the Undead, the cavalryman didn’t even slow down. Instead, he urged his Earth Dog to accelerate. He was determined to smash through these bony frames and see what lay beyond.

As they drew closer, however, the Earth Dogs began to slow down, a look of terror gradually creeping into their eyes.

Animals are sensitive. They hadn’t been able to feel it from a distance, but now that they were close, the Sharp-toothed Earth Dogs sensed the terrifying aura emanating from those bony frames—the oppressive presence of death.

’Can’t get any closer! Any closer means death!’

The Earth Dogs halted, refusing to go any closer. The Goblin Cavalry, however, didn’t understand. They only wanted to break through the bony frames and relentlessly urged their mounts forward.

Under their masters’ repeated demands, the Earth Dogs let out whimpering sounds, tucked their tails between their legs, and inched toward the Undead.

The mutts slowed down, but the goblins behind them didn’t, instead surging past the Cavalry to attack the Undead.

The cavalrymen angrily slapped their dogs’ heads. ’We’re the Cavalry, the Cavalry!’ ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

’Letting those runts overtake us? What a disgrace! Charge, you useless mutts!’

But no matter how the cavalrymen urged them, the Earth Dogs wouldn’t accelerate. They just shuffled forward reluctantly, even stopping to wait now and then.

The first goblins to reach the enemy line had already clashed with the Undead. They too had assumed the Undead were just decorations that could be easily destroyed. However, what greeted them were Bone Sabers, Spears, and Curved Sabers...

"Aaargh—"

"Yaah—"

Blood sprayed through the air. The goblins at the front were killed almost instantly. They died with their eyes wide open, unable to comprehend why these bony frames could move when they were nothing but bone.

The goblins at the rear didn’t care about that. ’So what if they died?’ They just kept charging, crashing into the Undead who were lying in wait.

Bone and blood splattered as severed limbs flew through the air!

Watching from his two-story building, Liu Xingxing felt a chill run down his spine. He had seen the Lizardmen besiege the city, and he had seen the Undead fight the Lizardmen, but always from a distance. The scene unfolding before him now was far more bloody and violent than anything he had ever seen in a movie. It made him tremble uncontrollably, and at the same time, he finally understood what the true Otherworld was like.

Against Demonized Minotaurs or Lizardmen, the Undead might need to rely on superior numbers to gain the upper hand. But against goblins, the Undead’s combat strength was formidable. One-on-one was no problem at all; after all, these little runts were nothing special.

After just a few exchanges, the goblins realized something was wrong. ’Hey, wait a minute... Aren’t a lot of our buddies dying?’

The bone things were fine, but the ground around them was already littered with the corpses of their comrades.

The goblins at the front began to think of retreating. Just as one turned to flee, he saw a pair of thick legs. It was a Bear Goblin, two meters tall, holding a massive wooden club. It shot the deserting goblin a disdainful look, then kicked out, sending the smaller creature flying directly into a crowd of Undead.

The goblin only had time to let out a single, wretched scream before the swarming Undead hacked it to pieces.

The Bear Goblin let out a roar, strode forward, and swung its club at the Undead, the massive weapon whistling through the air.

CRASH...

The club smashed several Undead into a pile of shattered bones. Their skulls went rolling across the ground.

This single blow instantly restored the confidence of the surrounding goblins, who began to howl and shriek once more.
