Chapter 32: Chapter 31: Big Brother’s Misunderstanding
The first thought that flashed through Li Ziyu’s mind was—’I’ve been discovered!’
His second reaction was: ’If it’s a fight you want, it’s a fight you’ll get! Do you really take my Undead for a bunch of pushovers? You really take me for a kitten?’
Running was not an option. He couldn’t, even if he wanted to. The Mobile Fortress was still in Hibernation Mode; it couldn’t move at all. Besides, competition in the Otherworld was brutal. The enemy was already at his doorstep. If he chickened out now, he might as well just commit suicide.
Everyone has some fight in them. Even a cornered rabbit will bite back. No matter how weak the Undead might be, they couldn’t shy away from a battle! ’It’s just death. What the hell is there to be afraid of!’
"End Hibernation Mode! Raise the fortress! All units, prepare for battle!"
Li Ziyu shot to his feet, roaring out the command. The entire Undead Fortress instantly roared to life. Soul Fires ignited, like a great Monster stirring from its slumber.
Liu Xingxing, who had been observing the Skeleton, suddenly felt the ground tremble. ’An earthquake?’ He glanced around in a daze, his eyes landing on the freshly dug pit. That was the source of the vibrations. Something was about to emerge from underground.
Soil churned and surged outward. The ground shook, sending rubble flying. A fortress constructed of white bone, radiating a bone-chilling aura, slowly rose from the earth.
A shadow fell over the Treasure-Hunting Catman’s Mobile Fortress. Liu Xingxing slowly tilted his head back, his mouth falling open. He stared blankly up at the Skeleton Fortress, which towered over his own. They were too close. The suffocating pressure, the terror, and the palpable killing intent left Liu Xingxing and the two Catmen struggling to breathe.
On the fortress’s outer walls, Soul Fires blazed as Undead came to life, baring their fangs and brandishing their Weapons.
’This is a nightmare...’
One by one, the Undead detached from the outer walls, dropped to the ground, and rose to their feet. They marched toward the Treasure-Hunting Catman’s Mobile Fortress and surrounded it, waiting only for their City Lord’s order to slaughter anyone who dared to attack.
Li Ziyu stepped to a window and looked down from his high vantage point. He saw the two-story-tall Mobile Fortress below, the struggling Skeleton Undead dangling in mid-air, and three figures, one of whom was a Human.
’The fortress isn’t very big, and I don’t see any other Warriors. It’s all alone out here, with no other structures around. What were they thinking? Daring to attack me with just this? Are they insane, or just full of themselves? Do they really think they’re hot stuff?’
Then, he recalled the important piece of intelligence he’d received before going to sleep: a new Transmigrator had arrived in this world. ’So, this must be a newbie. Doesn’t know the rules, has no idea about the dangers. Probably thinks he’s the bee’s knees just because he became a City Lord and can do whatever he wants.’
"Heh."
Li Ziyu sneered. ’If that’s really the case, then there’s nothing left to say. I’ll have to teach him a lesson. And in the Otherworld, lessons like these are often incredibly painful. In a light case, you get your fortress stolen and are left homeless. In a severe case, everyone is slaughtered, your body is destroyed, and your soul is annihilated.’
Sensing their City Lord’s emotional shift, the Undead slowly advanced, closing in on Liu Xingxing’s Mobile Fortress.
Just a moment before the Undead were about to attack, Liu Xingxing’s knees went weak, and he suddenly dropped to the ground. He threw his hands high in the air to surrender and screamed with all his might, "I was wrong! Please, spare my life—"
The corner of Li Ziyu’s mouth twitched. His arm, raised and about to fall to signal the attack, froze awkwardly in mid-air. Outside, the Undead also halted their advance, standing silently around the Mobile Fortress.
If Liu Xingxing had been a second later, the Undead would have stormed the Mobile Fortress, killed him and the two Catmen, and dragged their bodies back to the Undead Mobile Fortress to present to their City Lord.
’What’s going on? Why did he just surrender?’ Li Ziyu wondered. He looked at the Skeleton Undead beside him. "Are there any other signs of life in that fortress besides those three?"
The Skeleton Undead shook its head, indicating that there were only three living beings in the opposing Mobile Fortress. An attack would be a certain victory. freēwēbnovel.com
Below, a drop of cold sweat dripped down Liu Xingxing’s forehead. He cautiously eyed the surrounding Undead, then yelled again, "It’s a misunderstanding! It’s all a misunderstanding! Please, I swear, I was wrong!"
He’d reacted quickly. The moment the Undead began advancing on his fortress, Liu Xingxing realized: ’Ruins my ass! That’s another goddamn Transmigrator, just like me! That thing in the ground is clearly a Mobile Fortress!’
’Treasure Hunting Catmen, you’ve gotten me killed!’
’Looks like he didn’t just get here. I only have two Catmen, while he has hundreds of Skeletons armed with Weapons. That doesn’t add up at all. He must be a veteran, someone who transmigrated before me and had time to build up his strength.’
’And it’s not even his fault, it’s mine! He was just minding his own business, resting underground, not bothering a soul, and I had to go and dig him up. And not only did I dig him up, I captured one of his Skeletons. Of course he’s going to be pissed!’
’What rotten luck. It looks like my new life is about to end right after it began. I just hope he’ll listen to my explanation and not take it too personally.’
The two Catmen’s fur stood on end, their eyes filled with terror. They weren’t some kind of warrior Race; they were just cute, curious, adventure-loving Catmen who were good at finding treasure. Seeing their own City Lord on his knees, they didn’t hesitate for a second. They immediately threw their hands in the air, one step short of writing the word "Surrender" across their faces.
They, too, understood what they had stumbled upon: the Undead. The legendary Undead, those merciless beings said to be the embodiment of death itself.
Inside his fortress, Li Ziyu watched the Undead shake its head, confirming there were no more Warriors in the other fortress. He sighed in resignation, lowered his hand, and ordered the Undead to stand by. He decided he would go and meet this person.
’This is just unbelievable,’ he thought. ’I never expected my first meeting with another Transmigrator would be like this.’
Li Ziyu walked out of his fortress and headed toward the Treasure-Hunting Catman’s Mobile Fortress, but stopped at a safe distance. He didn’t get too close. Who knew if the other guy had an ace up his sleeve? What if this was all a ruse to lure him out for a surprise attack? He wasn’t about to get careless and pay the price.
With a flick of his finger, a few Undead moved forward and pressed their blades to the necks of Liu Xingxing and the Catmen. The slightest movement would mean a slit throat.
"Sir, please listen to me! I have no ill intentions, really! I don’t know anything! It’s all a misunderstanding, an accident! Please don’t kill me!" The moment Liu Xingxing saw Li Ziyu, he realized this was the Transmigrator and scrambled to speak, terrified his life would be forfeit if he was a second too late.
"So, talk. What’s the deal here? I was hiding underground. How did you manage to dig me up, and with such precision?" Li Ziyu stared at the young Transmigrator, his face a perfect picture of resignation, speechlessness, and an expression that screamed, ’Are you kidding me?’
"Sir, it’s like this..." Liu Xingxing didn’t dare hide a single detail. He hurriedly explained how he had just transmigrated to this world, how he had become a City Lord, and what the Treasure Hunting Catmen had told him. He told him everything.
Although he often went on treasure hunts and had seen many things others hadn’t, being surrounded by a horde of living Skeletons, with a blade held to his throat by one of them, was a first.
Under the threat of death, he didn’t dare to make things up. He told it exactly as it was, with utmost sincerity.
The story was simple. After hearing it, Li Ziyu rubbed his temples. "This is just too much. So, you’re telling me that your two cute-but-stupid cats mistook me for some ruins, and that’s why you dug me up?"
Liu Xingxing nodded his head vigorously, like a chicken pecking at grain. "Yes, yes, that’s exactly it! If I had known this was your fortress, sir, I wouldn’t have dared to poke the bear!"
’Tsk. So, what am I supposed to do with this guy now?’
Li Ziyu gazed at Liu Xingxing, lost in thought.
