Chapter 156: Chapter 114: Caught Again

Li Ziyu nodded. Saler’s figure shot into the sky, rejoining the Wandering Souls.

It had been a rather eventful night. Tas Tuling had gained a master, Li Ziyu had gained Fox Maids, and the Wandering Souls had been let loose, drifting about all night and leaving behind legends of hauntings in the Tribes surrounding the Wraith Mountain Range.

As the first rays of dawn broke, the Wandering Souls returned to their Soul Coffins, and the Undead Fortress once again fell dormant. However, the main tower was not as quiet as it usually was. Not all the Fox Race Wandering Souls had returned to their Soul Coffins; a lively flock of them had gathered inside the fortress.

"Don’t you all need to rest?" Li Ziyu couldn’t help but ask, looking at the luminous figures in the Darkness.

"We’ve had more than enough rest. We want to stay out and keep you company," Spirit Maiden said coaxingly, drifting to Li Ziyu’s side.

Li Ziyu clicked his tongue and said irritably, "You might not need to rest, but I do! I have to sleep!"

"We’ll be quiet! Don’t send us away, please? Pretty please? C’mon, pleeease," Spirit Maiden pleaded, her eyes wide as she wrung her hands with a charmingly innocent air.

’When an animal-eared girl is begging you softly like that, who the hell can resist!’

Li Ziyu sighed to the heavens, finally giving in. "Alright, alright, you win. If you don’t want to go back, then don’t. But you have to be quiet. No noise, and don’t you dare wake me up, got it?"

"Mhm, mhm! We’ll be quiet!" Spirit Maiden bobbed her head like a chick pecking at grain, then shot her sisters a huge, triumphant smile.

Animal-eared girls were super effective against Human males. This was especially true for the intelligent Fox Race, who had figured it all out back in the age of Balfeite. They had even codified their knowledge into a specific academic discipline: *On How to Make Human Males Obedient Without Quarrels*.

Countless years later, it proved that this field of study was still as effective as ever.

Nailed it.

While the other Undead returned to their Soul Coffins, they, the Fox Race, could roam freely within the Undead Fortress. As long as they didn’t make any noise and disturb the Master of the Undead’s rest, anything went. They were ecstatic!

The ears of each Wandering Soul Fox Girl twitched with excitement, their eyes sparkling with mirth.

The teachings of the Balfeite-era Fox Race never advocated for the Fox People to use force to seize power. They firmly believed that conquering males was the superior method. It resulted in less conflict and fewer battles, yet still achieved their goals—the optimal approach.

Surrounded by a crowd of Fox People Wandering Souls, Li Ziyu closed his eyes. He had to count over one hundred thousand sheep before he finally, groggily, drifted off to sleep.

...

"Look what I caught!" a yawning Minotaur announced as he approached Mumu. He held up a small cat-girl who was baring her fangs and flailing her arms and legs wildly.

"...How did you get caught again?" Mumu stared at Mengmeng and asked with simple-minded honesty.

"I didn’t get caught! I came here on purpose! Let me go, you big dumb ox!" Mengmeng shouted in a rage.

’Three times! This is the third time I’ve been caught! Do I have some kind of vendetta against these big, dumb oxen? Why do they always catch me?!’

Yesterday, after Zhang Peng visited Dora the Cat, the Clan Leader had decided to trade intelligence for food. He’d been so excited he spent all night compiling information about the surrounding area, then rushed Mengmeng out the door before dawn.

But as soon as she got near the Undead’s territory, she was spotted by a Minotaur and hauled right back.

"Just you? You don’t have someone else coming to rescue you again, do you?" Mumu asked with a yawn.

"There’s another one. We caught her too, we just didn’t bring her over," the Minotaur holding Mengmeng chimed in from the side.

"You big dumb ox! I’ll say it one more time: my sister and I came here on purpose! We weren’t sneaking around, so this whole ’catching me’ thing is nonsense! Let me go! I need to see the Human Merchant!" Mengmeng shrieked, baring two sharp little fangs in a fluster.

Hearing her mention the Human Merchant, Mumu paused. "You’re looking for City Lord Zhang Peng?"

"His name is Zhang Peng? What a strange name. I’m here to do business with him!" Mengmeng kicked her legs but was still unable to escape the Minotaur’s grasp.

"Okay, then. Wait here, I’ll go get City Lord Zhang Peng." Not daring to delay, Mumu hurried off to find Zhang Peng.

"Hey! Tell him to put me down first!" Mengmeng yelled at Mumu’s retreating back.
