Chapter 142: Chapter 110: Bountiful Harvest
If the Cat Girl hadn’t come to give him intel, the Alliance Army’s surprise attack would have nearly succeeded. It served as a wake-up call for Li Ziyu. He couldn’t count on being this lucky every time; he needed to strengthen the security around his fortress.
He opened the system and scrolled through the architecture page. It didn’t take long for him to find the building he needed.
[White Bone Watchtower]
[Introduction: Possesses no offensive capabilities on its own, but it can increase the detection range of the Soul Fire of the Undead stationed on it. If you aren’t a complete idiot, you probably wouldn’t place melee Undead on a Watchtower, would you?]
[Construction Requirements: Skeleton x1000 units]
[Area Occupied: 4 units]
This was a basic structure. Li Ziyu had ignored it before because it required too many Skeletons and wasn’t particularly useful. But now was the perfect time to build it. Since the only resource it required was Skeleton, Li Ziyu immediately constructed four, placing one on each corner of the Bone Plate Platform.
After building the four White Bone Watchtowers, Li Ziyu opened the fortress’s information page to take a look.
[Level] Level 2 (Area: 300 units)
[Buildings] Castle Main Tower (Fortress), Weapon Workshop (4 units), Armor Workshop (4 units), Skeleton Engine (10 units), Warrior Training Camp (20 units), Big Bone Wheel x4, Little Bone Wheel x2, Tomb of the Dead x10 (1 unit x10), Alien Tomb (10 units), Tattoo Workshop (4 units), Warehouse (50 units), Archer Training Camp (20 units), White Bone Watchtower x4 (4 units x4)
[Race] Undead System - Skeleton Race
[Traits] Skeleton Architecture (Some buildings can transform into Skeleton Undead during combat), Hibernation Mode (The city can burrow underground)
[Speed] 50 km/h + 100 km/h (Skeleton Engine)
The buildings on the Bone Plate Platform were piling up. Nearly half of its 300-unit area was already occupied.
’Sigh, it looks like I’m running out of space. I’ll probably have to upgrade the main tower again.’
The White Bone Watchtowers were constructed quickly. In essence, Skeletons clambered over one another like a human pyramid, ultimately forming a trapezoidal structure about fifteen meters high. At the top was an empty platform where Undead could be stationed.
Since the system had already warned against placing melee Undead, Li Ziyu assigned two Skeleton Longbowmen to each tower. He tasked them with monitoring the surroundings and sounding an alarm if any unidentified creatures were spotted.
Li Ziyu browsed through the system’s architecture list again and discovered many basic structures he had previously overlooked, such as the Light Armor Shield, the Fierce Horn, and the Edge Spike. These could enhance the fortress’s Defense Power and combat capabilities. In the past, he hadn’t had enough resources—he barely had enough Undead, let alone the means to strengthen the fortress’s Power. As a result, all these basic structures had been cast aside.
But things were different now. A steady stream of Corpse Remains flowed into the Warehouse every day, allowing him to install these structures as he pleased.
It was like modifying a vehicle; if he installed all the equipment the system provided, the fortress’s combat power would skyrocket.
In its current basic form, Li Ziyu could handle Natives like goblins, Lizardmen, and the Headhunter Race just fine. But if he ran into a City Lord who was also a Transmigrator, it would be a different story.
After all, the nature of combat was completely different. Against Natives, the priority was to kill the enemy and annihilate their forces. But in a war between Mobile Fortresses, the priority was to destroy structures. If you couldn’t destroy the enemy’s buildings, it was pointless even if you killed all their Warriors.
As long as the City Lord survived, they would inevitably rise again sooner or later.
Structures like the Light Armor Shield and the Fierce Horn existed specifically for combat against other Mobile Fortresses. If you encountered one, you could just charge straight in. The terrifying horn could directly demolish the enemy’s fortress.
Li Ziyu mulled it over. He felt the horn could wait for now, but the Edge Spikes and Light Armor Shields—those he could install first.
[Edge Spike]
[Introduction: An offensive basic defense facility. Don’t count on it too much; it just looks rather intimidating.]
[Construction Requirements: Skeleton x5 units]
[Area Occupied: None]
[Light Armor Shield]
[Introduction: The fortress’s basic defense. Don’t overthink it—just think of this thing as a giant Shield. It can be lowered when not in use and raised when needed. It can block a bit of damage, at least.]
[Construction Requirements: Skeleton x100 units]
[Area Occupied: None]
Both were basic structures that only required Skeleton. It was a no-brainer. He decided to build a bunch at once and arm the exterior of the Bone Plate Platform.
Li Ziyu built 400 Edge Spikes and 20 Light Armor Shields.
Upon selecting "construct," the system began the work. The Edge Spikes were built first. One after another, three-meter-long spikes grew out from the edge of the Bone Plate Platform, extending outwards. They resembled a cheval de frise, only made of bone, and they looked quite sturdy.
After the spikes around the perimeter were complete, perfectly smooth, ten-meter-high, white, square shields rose up one after another. These were the Light Armor Shields, just as their Introduction described.
In truth, Li Ziyu was using them improperly. Normally, the Light Armor Shields were meant to be placed around a ramming horn to prevent debris from flying into the fortress during impact.
But now, feeling that his defenses were lacking, Li Ziyu had boldly built a whole bunch to use as fortress walls.
The commotion from the construction startled the Minotaurs. They all came out to see what was going on. When they saw the Watchtowers, they found them to be quite normal. After all, any reasonably large Tribe would build watchtowers; everyone understood the principle of "the higher you stand, the farther you see."
