Chapter 109: Chapter 99: Signing a Contract Again
Undead!
How could there be Undead here?
The Headhunters used the moonlight to get a clear look at the Monsters blocking their path. Their eyes slowly widened, pupils shrinking.
But when they saw the number of Undead before them, they let out a small sigh of relief. ’They don’t outnumber us. Phew, that’s a relief. What are we waiting for? Are we just going to stand here and let those archers on the mountain keep taking potshots at us?!’
"Charge! Kill them, and get up that mountain to finish off the ambushers!"
Their leader was dead, but there were always those who wanted to climb the ranks. Wasn’t this the perfect opportunity? Lead the men, wipe out the Undead, and capture that mobile structure—with a victory like that, becoming the new leader would be a sure thing. If you wanted to get to the top, you had to be willing to risk your life for it.
With someone taking the lead, others followed. The Headhunters brazenly launched their attack on the Skeleton Warriors.
The Skeleton Warriors raised their Bone Sabers and Shields, moving forward to meet the charge.
「On the mountain.」
When Zhang Peng saw the Headhunter at the front of the charge get shot down, he jumped up in excitement. But then he saw the Headhunters charging the Skeleton Warriors and couldn’t help but clench his fists. ’This is bad,’ he thought. ’The Headhunters have more men. Can the Undead really handle them?’
He couldn’t help but turn to look at Li Ziyu, only to find a strange expression on his face. Under the moonlight, it looked sinister and ferocious. The smile playing on his lips was like a summons from the Death God himself. Then, he saw Li Ziyu raise a hand and snap his fingers.
Realizing something was wrong, Zhang Peng whipped his head around to look down below and witnessed a scene he would never forget.
Around the Gopher Mobile Fortress, on ground that had been empty and barren just moments before, the soil suddenly began to churn. Withered, bony arms burst forth from the earth. One by one, Skeleton Undead clawed their way out of the ground and rose to their feet. Their Soul Fire flickered like fatal beacon lights. A dense, teeming horde, they had completely surrounded the Headhunters.
The Headhunters had just reached the Skeleton Warriors and were about to bring their attacks down when they froze. Their swords stopped a centimeter from the Skeleton Warriors’ Shields, but they didn’t complete the swing. Every one of them stared in horror at their surroundings.
Skeletons. A dense tide of Skeletons. They were everywhere, silently watching them.
’H-how could this be? They weren’t here a moment ago!’
Fear threw the Headhunters into a panic. They gripped their weapons tightly—the only things that could offer them any sense of security now.
The Headhunters were stunned, but the Skeleton Warriors were not. Seeing the foe before it raise its sword only to look away instead of striking, one of them calmly thrust out its Bone Saber.
PFFT!
"Urgh..."
The Headhunter’s body shuddered. He slowly looked down at the Bone Saber buried in his abdomen, then looked back up at the unnervingly calm Skeleton Warrior. He really wanted to say, ’You motherfucker, you fight dirty!’
However, the Skeleton Warrior gave him no such chance. It forcefully yanked the Bone Saber out, and with a flash of the blade, the sharp edge slit his throat. It followed with an upward thrust, plunging the sword through his chin all the way to the hilt.
The Headhunter’s eyes rolled back in his head, and his breath ceased in an instant.
The Skeleton Warrior propped up its dead enemy for a moment, calmly withdrew its saber, and flicked the blood from the blade. It let go, and the Headhunter’s body slid to the ground.
Its jaws gaped open, and it let out a roar. The Skeleton Undead raised their feet and slowly advanced, the encirclement gradually tightening.
"Fight to the death!"
A Headhunter roared, took up his weapon, and began hacking wildly at the Skeleton Undead. The other Headhunters snapped out of their daze and, without hesitation, began to fight for their lives.
They knew that against the Undead, their only choices were to fight their way out or die.
The Undead were not a merciful foe, and they had walked right into their trap.
...
Zhang Peng was dumbfounded, his mouth hanging open, frozen like a statue.
’No wonder,’ he thought. ’No wonder Li Ziyu said not to worry about the Headhunters. With so many Undead, why would he care about a few hundred Headhunters? They were just serving themselves up on a platter! If he’d told me earlier, I wouldn’t have been so worried.’
He made a rough estimate in his head. The number of Undead below was definitely over ten thousand—dozens of times the number of Headhunters. It would be nearly impossible for them to escape.
Under the threat of death, the Headhunters had gone berserk. They used every trick they had to try and break out, but they would often only get a few steps before being either swarmed by Skeleton Undead or shot down by the Longbowmen, dying miserable deaths.
Seeing the gruesome fate of their comrades, the remaining Headhunters realized that individual bravery was not going to be enough to break through the encirclement. They were forced to group together to resist the Undead.
The Skeleton Undead were in no hurry. They tightened the circle little by little, gradually squeezing the Headhunters’ living space. And with them all clustered together, the Longbowmen were having a field day. A single arrow could pierce several of them; after all, they were standing so close, there was nowhere to dodge.
The battle lasted less than an hour. All five hundred-plus Headhunters were wiped out.
"It’s over." Standing on the mountain and watching the last Headhunter fall, Li Ziyu clapped his hands together and spoke to Zhang Peng with a smile.
A crushing victory. An absolute crush by numbers.
Taken individually, the Headhunters had plenty of ways to dominate those Undead. But when the Undead appeared in the thousands and tens of thousands, it was a catastrophe.
Zhang Peng never imagined that the Headhunters who had chased him all over the place could be annihilated so easily. Although some Undead were lost, judging by Li Ziyu’s expression, he didn’t seem to care much.
He was completely convinced.
Zhang Peng was utterly and completely convinced. He truly hadn’t expected Li Ziyu to have grown this powerful in such a short time. This was a completely different person from the one he had traded with before.
"Let’s go. We’re heading down."
Li Ziyu clapped Zhang Peng on the shoulder and started down the mountain with his Undead Guards. Zhang Peng shuddered, then quickly hurried to catch up.
