Chapter 63: Chapter 45: Intense Battle 3: The Tide Turns
The Fourth, Fifth, and Tenth Squads charged toward another troop of Bone Cavalry.
Since they weren’t approaching from a direct line, the squad members had to intercept the cavalry before they reached the Elemental Druids’ phalanx.
The Fourth Squad, composed of felines like cheetahs, tigers, and lions, was incredibly fast.
The Fifth Squad, made up of canids like foxes, hyenas, and jackals, was equally swift.
The Tenth Squad was the Elephant Race, and they were a bit slower.
However, despite their speed, the Fourth and Fifth Squads couldn’t halt the Bone Cavalry’s charge. They could kill many of the riders, but they couldn’t slow the advance of the main cavalry force.
Thus, the crucial task of stopping the Bone Cavalry fell to the Tenth Squad.
To get the Tenth Squad into position quickly, the members of the Fourth and Fifth Squads reverted to their true forms. They carried the Tenth Squad on their backs, racing to get ahead of the Bone Cavalry.
They also brought along the slower members of the Seventh and Eighth Squads.
...
"We’re here!"
A few minutes later, the Fourth, Fifth, Seventh, Eighth, and Tenth Squads arrived in the space between the Bone Cavalry and the Elemental Druids.
A member of the Tenth Squad’s Elephant Race dismounted and said with a chuckle, "Leave it to us now. Those Bone Cavalry aren’t getting through."
They then formed a single line and reverted to their true forms.
The Elephant Race was already tall and powerful, but after becoming demons, they grew even larger. What were once bodies four meters tall and seven meters long now transformed into behemoths over ten meters tall and twenty meters long.
This herd of giant elephants barred the Bone Cavalry’s path, like a mountain range of flesh that had erupted from the plains.
The Bone Cavalry were moving so fast that the distance closed in an instant. By the time they saw the wall of flesh, it was too late to turn.
BOOM—
The Bone Cavalry slammed directly into the wall of flesh but failed to inflict any damage. The giant elephants weren’t even pushed back; instead, they lifted their legs and began to walk forward, leaving nothing but a field of shattered skeletons in their wake.
In under a minute, the giant elephants had crossed the field, leaving a road of white bones behind them.
Any Bone Cavalry who had been thrown from their mounts and had luckily avoided being trampled were quickly dispatched by the members of the Fourth and Fifth Squads as they struggled to rise.

The Seventh Squad consisted mainly of the Monkey Race—various monkeys, apes, and baboons. They were skilled with weapons, but due to the relatively primitive smelting and forging techniques of their territory, they primarily wielded metal rods and clubs.
The Eighth Squad was a mixed unit of the Snake and Lizard Races, boasting a diverse set of abilities. Some were incredibly strong, some specialized in poison, some were masters of stealth, and others were exceptionally fast. They were a versatile combat squad.
The members of both squads rushed into the Elemental Druids’ formation and immediately spread out, forming groups of three or four to take on each White Bone Giant Beast.
They didn’t revert to their true forms, as having too many massive beasts would only sow more chaos within the already disordered ranks of the Elemental Druids.
Yuan Xiaobo was a Monkey Demon. He was a Legendary (purple) rank Demon Monkey, but since he had only recently become a demon, his level was low and he knew few skills. As a result, he hadn’t been made captain of the Seventh Squad.
He wasn’t discouraged, though. The captain of the Seventh Squad, Yuan Dafeng, was his father, and he too was a Legendary-rank Monkey Demon.
As his father’s only offspring to have become a demon, Yuan Xiaobo was well looked after. He had no intention of defeating his father and usurping his position.
More importantly, after becoming a demon, one was required by the Lord to go to the Jade Sanctuary and study subjects related to social ethics, which taught the demons to embrace civilization.
Yuan Xiaobo hadn’t understood why they had to embrace civilization, but his studies taught him. It meant that the strong had to follow the same rules as the weak and couldn’t prey on them at will. Although he was no longer weak himself, he was very fond of such a civilization. Before he became a demon, he had been one of the weak.
This time, as one of the main forces fighting the White Bone Giant Beasts, he was determined to kill as many enemies as he could to repay his lord.
His father had told him that without the Lord, they would still be scrambling for food in the jungle. They’d never have lived like this, with no worries about food or drink, and even a chance to grow stronger.
A loud BOOM— snapped Yuan Xiaobo out of his reverie.
A White Bone Giant Beast, seeing him standing still, lumbered over, intending to stomp him flat.
"Hah! You think you’re one of those behemoths from the Elephant Race?"
Yuan Xiaobo shouted, a bit embarrassed, as he stood perfectly safe in the gap between the bones of the beast’s massive foot.
’Just a few days ago, I passed the Celestial Tribulation and became a Monkey Demon. The Lord sent me here, and I killed a few defenseless Bone Skeleton Soldiers to level up a bit. This is my first real, intense battle, and I can’t believe I just zoned out. Then again, it’s the enemy’s fault for being so weak. They made me careless.’ freewёbnoνel.com
Flushing with embarrassment and anger, Yuan Xiaobo swung his iron rod. A golden light flashed around his body as he smashed the rod against the White Bone Giant Beast’s shin.
CRACK—
With a sharp crack, the White Bone Giant Beast’s shin bone snapped. Its body destabilized, and it began to topple.
Yuan Xiaobo sprang up, bounding along the White Bone Giant Beast’s collapsing body in a few quick leaps to reach its head.
He aimed for the beast’s neck. Focusing his mind and gathering his energy, he raised his rod high and brought it down in a vicious chop.
BANG—
With a loud bang, the White Bone Giant Beast’s neck snapped, and its massive skull tumbled to the ground.
Yuan Xiaobo then leaped onto the fallen skull. The golden light flared around his iron rod once more as he began to hammer away at it.
CLANG—
CLANG—
CLANG—
A sound like a blacksmith’s hammer on an anvil rang out. The White Bone Giant Beast’s attacks weren’t much to speak of—besides breathing a frosty mist and stomping with its massive body, its only other notable trait was its incredible durability.
Especially its skull. Yuan Xiaobo suspected the beast had put all its stat points into head defense. He tried to shove his rod through the openings in the skull to poke at the energy cluster inside, but he couldn’t get through.
All the openings were covered by a hard, transparent membrane.
And that was why Yuan Xiaobo had resorted to playing blacksmith.
After two or three minutes of this, Yuan Xiaobo finally smashed the skull and dispersed the energy within.
Once the skull was destroyed, the scattered, twitching bones of the White Bone Giant Beast’s body lost their luster and fell still.
Yuan Xiaobo wiped the sweat from his brow and glanced around.
Inspired by his example, many other demons had started playing blacksmith as well.
Others were busy snapping the necks of the White Bone Giant Beasts to immobilize them. It was now rare to see a single one still standing on the battlefield.
BOOM—
Not far from Yuan Xiaobo, a ball of bone crashed to the ground. A White Bone Giant Beast roared as it emerged from the wreckage.
A nearby demon saw the beast and immediately moved to engage it.
"Don’t! Leave that beast alone! It’s mine!"
Yuan Xiaobo bellowed and charged toward the fresh White Bone Giant Beast.
’The Fierce Raptor Druids have already disrupted the Bone Catapults, so fewer and fewer bone spheres are being launched over. If I don’t grab this one, there won’t be any left to fight!’
