Chapter 2: Chapter 2: The First Steps of a God

Kai remained beneath the Sacred World Tree long after the awakening ended.

The ten fox maidens stood quietly nearby, giving him time to process everything that had happened.

A few minutes ago, he had been standing in the Awakening Hall surrounded by thousands of nervous youths.

Now he possessed an entire world.

Even after seeing it with his own eyes, it still felt unreal.

The Divine Realm stretched beyond the horizon in every direction.

Rolling green plains swayed beneath a gentle breeze.

Silver rivers wound through fertile valleys.

Forests covered distant hills.

Snow-capped mountains could be seen far to the north.

The air itself felt different.

Cleaner.

Richer.

Filled with a faint energy that seemed to flow through every living thing.

Kai slowly walked toward one of the massive roots of the Sacred World Tree.

The root alone was wider than a city street.

Silver leaves drifted from above, glowing softly before disappearing into particles of light.

He reached out and touched the bark.

The tree felt warm.

Alive.

For some reason, he could sense a faint connection between himself and the tree.

Not through words.

Not through thoughts.

More like an instinctive awareness.

He knew when it was healthy.

He knew where it stood.

He even knew that countless blossoms were slowly forming high among its branches.

"This tree is incredible..."

A soft voice answered.

"It is the heart of our realm, My Lord."

Kai turned.

Luna stood nearby.

The silver-haired fox maiden looked up at the colossal tree with obvious respect.

"The Sacred World Tree sustains us."

"It gathers spiritual energy."

"It nourishes the land."

"It creates Spirit Blossoms."

Kai nodded.

Every notification he had received suggested that the tree was extremely important.

If something happened to it, the entire realm would probably suffer.

Protecting it would become one of his highest priorities.

For several moments, silence returned. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

Then Kai remembered something.

"Do all of you know your purpose?"

Luna blinked.

"Our purpose?"

"Yes."

The fox maiden thought for a moment.

Then she answered honestly.

"We know that we serve our Divine Lord."

"We know basic knowledge."

"We know language."

"We know construction, farming, gathering, and survival."

"But beyond that..."

She shook her head.

"We are learning just like you."

Kai felt relieved.

At least they weren’t all-knowing.

That would have felt strange.

More importantly, it meant they could grow together.

This wasn’t a civilization that already existed.

This was the beginning of one.

A true beginning.

Luna suddenly looked around.

"The first priority should be a settlement."

Kai followed her gaze.

The fox maiden wasn’t wrong.

They couldn’t stand beneath the tree forever.

The race needed homes.

Storage.

Farms.

Workshops.

The foundation of civilization.

"Then let’s explore."

The fox maidens immediately became excited.

For the next several hours, the group traveled throughout the surrounding region.

The further they explored, the more impressed Kai became.

The Divine Realm wasn’t merely large.

It was beautiful.

Crystal-clear streams flowed across the landscape.

Wild flowers covered entire hillsides.

Small animals occasionally appeared in the grasslands before running away.

Most importantly, the land was fertile.

Very fertile.

Several fox maidens had already collected samples.

One of them knelt beside a patch of soil and smiled.

"This land can support large farms."

Another nodded.

"The nearby forests contain useful wood."

"The river contains fish."

Kai listened carefully.

Already the fox maidens were thinking about development.

About resources.

About the future.

It was exactly what he wanted.

Eventually they reached a hill overlooking a broad river.

The view was stunning.

The river curved through the plains like a silver ribbon.

A nearby forest offered lumber.

Open grasslands provided plenty of space for expansion.

The Sacred World Tree was still visible in the distance.

Not too close.

Not too far.

Luna slowly nodded.

"This location is suitable."

Several other fox maidens agreed.

Kai studied the area.

Then smiled.

"Then this will be our first settlement."

The reaction was immediate.

The fox maidens cheered.

For them, this wasn’t merely a construction project.

It was the birth of their home.

Their first home.

Without wasting time, everyone got to work.

Kai quickly discovered something interesting.

The fox maidens were remarkably efficient.

There was no arguing.

No confusion.

No wasted effort.

One group gathered wood.

Another collected stone.

A third cleared land.

Several began marking locations for future buildings.

Luna coordinated everything smoothly.

Watching her work, Kai couldn’t help but feel impressed.

She possessed natural leadership talent.

The settlement grew little by little throughout the afternoon.

Kai joined whenever possible.

He carried wood.

Moved stone.

Helped clear land.

The fox maidens seemed surprised at first.

After all, he was their Divine Lord.

Technically he didn’t need to help.

But Kai didn’t like simply standing around while everyone else worked.

If they were building a civilization together, then he would contribute as well.

By sunset, the first building finally stood completed.

A simple wooden structure.

Nothing impressive.

Nothing grand.

Yet the moment everyone stepped back to admire it, a strange feeling filled the air.

A notification appeared before Kai.

First Structure Completed

Realm Prosperity +1

Faith +2

The numbers were small.

Yet everyone smiled.

Because it represented progress.

Real progress.

One building became two.

Then three.

As darkness slowly approached, a small cluster of homes stood beside the river.

The beginning of a village.

The beginning of civilization.

That night, a campfire burned near the center of the settlement.

The fox maidens sat around it while sharing food gathered during the day.

Simple roasted fish.

Wild berries.

Fresh water.

Nothing luxurious.

Yet nobody complained.

The atmosphere felt warm.

Comfortable.

For the first time since awakening, Kai felt his tension beginning to disappear.

A young fox maiden suddenly spoke.

"My Lord?"

Kai looked toward her.

"Yes?"

"What kind of place do you want this realm to become?"

The question caught him off guard.

Several other fox maidens immediately became interested.

Even Luna looked curious.

Kai stared into the campfire.

The flames danced before his eyes.

What kind of civilization did he want?

What kind of god did he want to become?

Many possibilities existed.

Conqueror.

Merchant.

Warrior.

Explorer.

Eventually he spoke.

"I want us to become strong."

The fox maidens nodded.

Strength was important.

"But I don’t want strength for its own sake."

Everyone listened carefully.

"I want cities."

"I want trade."

"I want knowledge."

"I want our people to live well."

His gaze moved toward the distant horizon.

"And one day..."

"I want our civilization to be known across countless worlds."

Silence followed.

Then smiles appeared on several faces.

Luna looked particularly pleased.

"It is an ambitious goal."

Kai laughed.

"Too ambitious?"

"No."

The fox maiden shook her head.

"I think it suits our Divine Lord."

The others immediately agreed.

The atmosphere became lively again.

Conversations continued long into the evening.

For the first time, the fox maidens began sharing stories about themselves.

Their personalities slowly emerged.

Some were serious.

Some playful.

Some curious.

Some shy.

They truly felt like individuals.

Eventually the campfire began dying down.

One by one, the fox maidens retired to their new homes.

Kai remained outside for a while longer.

The stars above the Divine Realm were beautiful.

Far more beautiful than anything he had seen in the mortal world.

As he looked toward the Sacred World Tree in the distance, he noticed something.

A faint silver glow among the branches.

One of the blossoms had grown slightly larger.

A smile appeared on his face.

The realm was already changing.

Growing.

Developing.

Just like them.

Kai took one final look at Silverleaf Village.

The tiny settlement beside the river.

Their first home.

Their first achievement.

Their first step.

Then he quietly whispered to himself.

"This is only the beginning."

Above him, countless stars shimmered across the heavens.

And deep within the Sacred World Tree, the future of the Nine-Tailed Divine Empire had already begun to bloom.
