Chapter 757: Chapter 413: What Does It Look Like! What Does It Look Like!

Edward Witten kept looking towards the door, his face almost spelling out ’why’ in big letters. He had no idea how one could be discussing research so seriously one moment and then suddenly switch gears like that...

And then, he left?

He sat there stunned for quite some time before he turned to Zhou Li and asked, "Why did he leave?"

"Didn’t he say?" Zhou Li was also slightly off-guard but after checking the time, he understood. "He’s gone on a date."

"Xiaoqing? A date? With a woman?"

"What else?"

"...But we were discussing important issues, the most important mathematics and M Theory issues."

"So what?"

"Don’t you get it?" Edward was incredulous. "M Theory, or rather, mathematical research is the most important thing. We’re making rapid progress here! Significant progress!"

"I know." Zhou Li nodded in understanding.

"What do you know?"

"I..."

Zhou Li was momentarily at a loss for words. He wanted to convey that he had understood, but as far as the mathematical framework was concerned, he couldn’t quite put it into words. He could only offer a rough explanation: "You’re researching breaking through the boundaries of multidimensional space, with 2 to the power of N as a breakthrough point, right?"

"You believe that 2 to the power of N may be related to mass or an important factor. I understand."

Edward Witten looked at Zhou Li doubtfully, but he could not question him further, as that would be very impolite.

He simply said, "How about this, could you share your thoughts? Seeing this from your perspective and explaining your understanding might be of great help to me." His tone was very sincere as he genuinely wanted to continue discussing the issue.

Zhou Li opened his mouth to say something, but after hesitating for a while, he lowered his head to check the time and regretfully said, "I really want to discuss this with you, Mr. Witten, but it’s getting late. If I don’t go back now, I might have some family problems to deal with."

Edward Witten immediately caught on, "So you’re going to deal with a woman as well, right?"

"Uh..."

"To some extent, yes." Zhou Li finished before saying goodbye to the receptionist and hurriedly left.

Edward Witten looked around the room and realized that only he and the receptionist remained, with a small group of burly security guards still at the door. Suddenly, he felt a sense of loneliness in the world. He sighed and asked the receptionist, "Alright, it is indeed late. Where am I staying?"

"Across."

The receptionist breathed a sigh of relief. He, too, hoped for a quick arrangement so he could also go to bed instead of staying up all night. He explained, "We thought it would be convenient for you and Academician Zhao to be closer for academic exchanges."

"Thank you!"

Edward Witten gave one last look at Zhao Yi’s room before grabbing a few draft calculations from the table, sighing, and heading across.

For the next two days, Edward Witten couldn’t meet Zhao Yi again. Initially, he inquired about where Zhao Yi was but gave up when he was told the discussions would resume on Monday.

He did receive some familiar company though.

Camilla and an administrative staff member arrived together. They seemed to be in a hurry, as they were both travel-weary upon arrival.

Camilla immediately complained, "Many people at the school said that you had a quarrel with your wife and left in a huff. If I hadn’t known that you’ve been separated for years, I would’ve believed it. Next time, can you at least give a heads up?"

"Yes, Mr. Witten."

The administrative staff member also chimed in.

Edward Witten didn’t care about their complaints. He wasn’t in a great mood either, having not seen Zhao Yi for two days and longing to resume their conversation on their discoveries. However, all his waiting felt futile as Zhao Yi never returned.

He found that he now had patience.

For example, joining the university’s representatives as they toured him around the campus. Not only was there the university representative, but also staff from the science and technology department.

Someone asked for his opinion on the "Boundary Theory of Particles." Naturally, he expressed strong support and offered high praise, citing Zhao Yi’s genius: "It’s a great theory created by a genius. But such geniuses should be in their offices, not out and about socializing."

"I just heard that your university is planning on establishing a dedicated Particle Mathematics Research Institute, with its core focus on the Boundary Theory of Particles."

"The idea is really, very good. But the prerequisite is that you’re able to keep Zhao Yi focused on related research, rather than taking weekends off for dates with a girl. If one of my students behaved this way while conducting significant research, I would give them the lowest evaluation and criticize them in person..."

The others exchanged glances, their expressions full of helplessness. How could they not wish for Zhao Yi to be completely devoted to particle mathematics research?

But it was impossible!

Camilla also knew the reason for Edward Witten’s frustration, so she became frustrated too. She had been looking forward to coming here, genuinely having fallen for Zhao Yi, admiring his intelligence, knowledge, and dedication. There was an alluring charm to a true genius. Deep down, she hoped that Zhao Yi would break up with that Chinese girl, even if she had saved her life and had an appealing and cheerful personality. But when it came down to vying for a man, what did even the closest of friends matter?
