Chapter 382: Chapter 250: Is There Anything He Can’t Do!
Bob was a young man in his early thirties, his thin face partly concealed by his parted hair. Standing on the stage, he seemed rather melancholic.
It was hard to gauge his facial expression from the audience, but someone in the front row noticed that his hands were shaking non-stop.
"Bob, don’t be nervous!"
"Just speak as you would in school, and consider everyone here as students."
Beileifen called out, causing dissatisfaction among many in the room. Did they just get compared to school students?
Did he look down on them?
The audience knew that Beileifen was merely encouraging Bob, but they couldn’t pick a bone with him.
Beileifen was an eminent leader in the field of theoretical physics. His thoughts and proofs on dimensional space and dark matter had surpassed the thinking of his time.
Of course.
The existence of dimensional space and dark matter is uncertain. If Keileifen was to prove their absolute existence by the end of his life, then it would be challenging, yet it is undeniable that theoretical physicists enjoy studying these things.
There is indeed a pecking order in academia.
Pure mathematicians (excluding applied mathematicians) and theoretical physicists sit at the top of this pyramid, while the rest of the mathematicians and physicists rank below. This is because successful mathematicians and theoretical physicists are deemed to be the most reliant on intelligence and imagination. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
As a top theoretical physicist, one can only imagine Beileifen’s standing in academia; no one wanted to offend someone of his eminence.
Beileifen’s encouragement seemed to have worked. Bob became much steadier on stage. He was carefully studying the documents in his hand, before telling someone in the second row, "Bring me my backpack, please."
Bob received his backpack and pulled out a stack of papers from within.
These were the calculation documents used during the validation process.
Seeing Bob’s method, Beileifen let out a sigh of relief. He was genuinely concerned that something might go wrong. Bob was one of his two best students, the other being Kaysa.
When it came to studying physics, Kaysa was slightly superior, but in the field of mathematics, Bob was more outstanding, his ability no less than Beileifen’s. During the validation process, a great deal of mathematical work was carried out by Bob.
After Bob retrieved the materials from his bag, he started the explanation while referring to them.
Once he dived into the content, he was apparently unflustered and continued explaining the first part of the calculation content smoothly.
Witnessing this, many in the audience turned their heads towards Zhao Yi. They had thought that there were problems with Bob, however, the composed Bob suggested otherwise.
Did Zhao Yi’s question emerge solely from resentment over his team’s loss?
"Are you sure there’s a problem?" Chen Ming couldn’t help but ask.
"There’s definitely an error."
Zhao Yi’s answer was incredibly assertive, instilling confidence in those around him.
In reality, Bob on stage kept glancing towards Zhao Yi during his explanation. Upon seeing how calm Zhao Yi was, seemingly convinced that there was an error in the calculation, he lost his composure and started to worry instead.
Bob had just figured it out.
The calculation process was incredibly complex, and he believed that no one could pinpoint an issue within such a short amount of time. The sudden accusation may have just been a probe or a futile attempt prompted by unwillingness to accept defeat.
So, he decided to skip steps in his explanation.
If he was to calculate from start to finish, that alone would take several hours. It wasn’t about whether he had the stamina to complete the computation, the audience surely wouldn’t have the patience to sit through it.
Skip-step explanation, on the other hand, was a different story.
The first issue he encountered, he had computed earnestly. But, he later realized the complexity of the computation and compiled three results from two aspects.
The three results happened to yield the final answer when applied to the overall verification. They already knew the result of the French team at the beginning of the verification.
So, all he needed to do was focus on the first problem during the skip-step explanation. No one would point out an erroneous answer if he manipulated the result during a critical step. No one is going to go back to the beginning and scrutinize it all the way to the last step. As long as the first answer is proven correct, no one would question the other two.
Bob concentrated on the explanation. He followed his train of thought, and one by one, the answers came out.
His calculations were logically sound, complicated functions, and equations gave the result according to the manuscript.
At least, that was what the audience believed.
Because before Bob declared every answer, he would lower his head to check the data in his hand.
"He’s explaining based on the draft calculations in his hand."
Many deduced.
They followed Bob’s thought process, deriving the answer step by step. The validation result was soon to come, and many felt that there was next to no issue.
"This computational result should be correct!" fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
"Clear thinking, smooth calculation process, Beileifen’s student, Bob, truly has some skills!"
"If the proof turns out to be flawless, Zhao Yi..."
Many turned their eyes to Zhao Yi.
At this point, Zhao Yi raised his hand, "Stop here for a moment."
Bob shuddered all over, seemingly not hearing it. He intented to continue with his explanation, but a second call emerged from the audience.
"Sorry, could we take a moment?"
All eyes fixed on Zhao Yi.
Beileifen also called out, "Bob, hold on. Since there are some reservations, let’s hear out what they have to say." He had full confidence in Bob, thinking that Zhao Yi was merely stirring trouble.
