“Fucking hell, Gihun-hyung. Who ordered this? No way in hell you had the balls to do this on your own. So who was it?”

Park Dongsu glared at Heo Gihun and spoke in a harsh tone.

Heo Gihun scoffed.

“Who ordered it? Nobody. You brought this on yourself, Boss Park. All four of us felt the same way. Isn’t that right?”

The other three nodded.

“Sorry, Boss Park.”

“Dongsu-hyung, please understand.”

Park Dongsu’s face twisted with rage.

Considering all the favors he’d extended to them, it was no surprise he was furious.

Besides the four boss-level men who had entered first—Byun Seongho, Son Kangseok, Kim Byungsoo, and Heo Gihun—six more heavies were blocking the office door.

“Uncle Dongsu, want to team up?”

I spoke casually.

The tension in the room, which had felt like standing in front of a live bomb, instantly deflated.

“No need. I’ll handle it. You stay back in the corner. This isn’t like a schoolyard brawl. Move.”

I’d been caught off guard when the heavies stormed in too—but it only took a few seconds to grasp the situation.

It was obvious. This idiot Park Dongsu had gone soft, loosening his grip for the sake of old senior-junior ties and friendship.

Tch.

I clicked my tongue internally.

This was the true face of organized crime.

Loyalty?

Romance?

Bullshit.

In the end, it’s a world filled with betrayal.

“You sure you’ll be alright?”

“Cut the chatter.”

At Dongsu’s words, I stepped into the corner of the office.

I didn’t really know how capable Park Dongsu was. In the original timeline, he was sentenced to life in prison and never got out before my death, so I couldn’t say for certain.

But I wasn’t too worried—because of the man standing beside him: attorney Lee Sanggeun.

There was no way someone who had made it all the way into Seoul’s Gangnam territory with just a sharp mind alone had done so without being deadly.

Word was, he’s real good with knives.

Time to see those rumors in action.

“Sigh... Sanggeun-ah, you too. Get back.”

“Ha~ Boss, are you underestimating me? I can take care of myself, so you focus on your end.”

Dongsu let out a dumbfounded laugh at Sanggeun’s response.

“Why the hell is there not a single sane bastard around me? I’m gonna lose my mind.”

But a smile still crept onto Dongsu’s face.

“You punks really can’t read the room, huh? Boys!”

At Heo Gihun’s shout, the heavies blocking the door gripped their baseball bats and steel pipes tighter and started advancing.

Lee Sanggeun calmly pulled two sashimi knives, each about 15 cm long, from inside his tailored pants.

Dongsu stared at him in disbelief.

“You seriously carry sashimi knives to meetings with me?”

“It’s a habit. Just a habit.”

The six heavies were now within striking distance.

All it would take was one of them making the first move to set off the fight.

“Let’s talk after we take these bastards out, yeah?”

As he spoke, Park Dongsu charged in barehanded.

He struck the closest guy right under the chin with the edge of his hand. At the same time, a steel pipe slammed into his shoulder.

“Ghk.”

“Urk.”

With a twisted expression, Dongsu grabbed the stunned thug by the hair and yanked him forward—

Wham!

—and kneed him square in the face.

The remaining five immediately rushed at Dongsu.

That’s when Lee Sanggeun jumped in.

Slash! Slash!

The sound of knives cutting through air rang out in the room.

Two of the thugs dropped their weapons immediately.

“Gyaaaargh!”

Blood sprayed from their slashed wrists like fountains.

Crimson splattered all over the office, drenching Dongsu, the heavies, and Lee Sanggeun.

The room turned into chaos—screams, groans, and blows being traded echoed nonstop.

Even the sounds of fighting outside the office were growing louder.

Byun Seongho, who had been watching from the side, seemed to decide it was time. He pulled a sashimi knife from his coat.

“I’ll handle the brat. You guys take care of the rest.”

With that, Byun Seongho started walking toward me, knife in hand.

Dongsu glanced in my direction.

But he couldn’t intervene. He was already wounded.

With the other boss-level guys joining the fight, things got even more chaotic.

I stared indifferently at Byun Seongho as he approached with his knife.

“This is all because of you. I won’t kill you—just leave you crippled. Live with it for the rest of your life. That’s your karma, you bastard.”

As he lunged at my abdomen with the blade, I immediately picked up a nearby chair and hurled it.

It hit him squarely, making him stagger, and I closed the distance in an instant.

“You bastard! Die! Die!”

Byun Seongho wildly slashed his knife at me.

I dodged the trajectory of the blade and threw a punch. He tried to dodge in the opposite direction.

I didn’t miss the opening and slammed my other fist, clenched around the car key in my pocket, straight into his right eye.

Thunk!

Staggering from the blow, I grabbed his collar and yanked him toward me.

Thwack! Thwack!

I hammered punches into his face, but his erratic blade managed to nick my forearm.

Still, I didn’t stop—I kept going for his face.

Eventually, Byun Seongho dropped the knife.

“What the hell are you blaming me for? What did I ever do to you? You started this shit, and now you’re blaming me?”

I sneered at him as he wobbled on his feet.

“And if Uncle Dongsu hadn’t shown up that day, you’d already be dead by my hands. You don’t even know who saved your damn life.”

He started to recover, but the fire in his eyes hadn’t gone out.

Crack!

I punched him in the face again. His head whipped to the side from the impact.

“Still not gonna bow those eyes?”

Even now, his prideful glare remained.

I let out a dry laugh.

“Still got some gangster pride, huh?”

Grabbing his collar again, I started slapping him this time.

The worst insult to a man isn’t getting punched—it’s getting slapped.

I don’t know how much time passed. My palm started going numb.

“Hey! Dongsaeng! That’s enough!”

I snapped out of it at Dongsu’s shout as he approached.

Byun Seongho seemed to have lost consciousness. When I let go of his collar, he crumpled to the floor.

I sighed and turned to Dongsu.

“······Uncle, didn’t you say it was all wrapped up?”

“······Sorry.”

“What about outside?”

“Hyungnim!!!”

Someone came running, calling for Dongsu.

“Is it handled outside?”

“Yes, no major injuries—well, except you. You sure you’re not getting rusty?”

“Cut the crap. Gather everyone in the office.”

“Yes, sir.”

Dongsu’s men came in and dragged out the collapsed gangsters.

“Dongsaeng, your arm okay? You’re bleeding.”

“No, you should be worried about your face. You look half-dead. Honestly, Sanggeun looks more alive than you.”

At that, Dongsu glanced at Sanggeun—then flinched.

Sanggeun stood there, calm, looking like he’d just bathed in blood. His composed expression and sharp face somehow made it even more # Nоvеlight # terrifying.

“Fuck... hey! Sanggeun. Do you really carry sashimi knives all the time? You could’ve killed me any time, huh?”

“Why would I? You’re my paycheck. The one who gives me money is my god.”

Sanggeun casually tossed the bloodied knife aside and shook the blood off his hands.

Just then, Yang Soohyeong entered.

“Boss, we’ve got them all kneeling outside.”

“Good. Let’s go.”

“Wait.”

I pulled a phone from my pocket.

“What’s that?”

“A phone. Prototype from Ilseong Electronics.”

I’d gotten this test model from Cheon Jisoo not long ago. I was used to smartphones, and the old devices were too clunky, but this one fit nicely in one hand and was easy to use. frёewebnoѵēl.com

“Looks good.”

I called Hyunseong’s father.

“Yes, Father-in-law, it’s Muhyuk. I’m at the department building right now. Got ambushed by some punks and got a bit hurt. I think you should come and help wrap this up.”

– What? Punks? What are you doing down there? You better not be making Grandma worry again. You better not be causing trouble like when you were a kid.

“Don’t worry. I’m not a kid anymore—I’ve got my head on straight now. Just come. Third floor of the department building. I’ll handle the prosecutors. You decide what needs to be cleaned up.”

– Got it. I’ll be there in twenty.

“Yes, sir.”

When I hung up, I noticed Dongsu staring at me with an expression of horror.

“Don’t tell me... the father-in-law you just called isn’t that Detective Park, is it? Tell me it’s not. Please.”

“It is. He’ll be here soon. Let’s go talk outside before he arrives.”

“You insane bastard! Who the hell calls the head of Major Crimes to a gang fight?! Cancel it!”

“Now’s our chance to toss these bastards into prison. What’s the problem? Trust me and let’s have a talk. We’ve got to know who ordered it, don’t we?”

“Goddamn... You drive me nuts just being around you.”

Dongsu sighed and left the office.

Once he was gone, Lee Sanggeun quietly turned to me.

“Who are you?”

“Hmm?”

“No matter how I look at it, you don’t seem like someone who’s only been through this once or twice. I heard you’re a Korea National University student at twenty, but you don’t hesitate at all when hitting someone.”

“Haha. You’ll figure it out. Just think of me as someone who’s going to be your golden ticket. You like money, don’t you?”

“······.”

“Let’s go. I want to hear what they’ve got to say.”

When we stepped out, it looked like things had been wrapped up.

The traitors—including Heo Gihun and Byun Seongho—were kneeling on the floor. Dongsu stared down at them coldly.

“Hyungnim. Why’d you do this? I gave you all the turf I used to manage so you could eat. And this is how you repay me? You want me to tear up the whole chain of command and treat you like shit? You think I’m a pushover?”

“······.”

One of his men handed him a towel.

Wiping blood from his face and neck, Dongsu sat in his chair.

“Speak. Why’d you do it?”

“Sorry, dongsaeng.”

“Fuck your sorry. Take that shit home. Who ordered it? Tell me.”

“······.”

Heo Gihun didn’t respond.

“The rest of you. Nothing to say?”

They all stayed silent.

Dongsu let out a hollow laugh and looked over at me.

“Oi, dongsaeng. You sure you can take responsibility for what happens here? Detective Park’s coming, right?”

I answered confidently.

“Just don’t kill them. Leave the rest to me.”

“Sigh... fuck, this is so embarrassing I can’t show my face anywhere. Of all days, why’d this have to happen today while you’re here? Soohyeong, the knife!”

At that, Yang Soohyeong pulled a sashimi knife from his coat and handed it to Dongsu.

With a vicious glint in his eye, Dongsu stared down the four traitors.

“Gihun-hyung, don’t expect any seniority treatment from now on. You were the one who stabbed your dongsaeng in the back first. You dug your own grave. Soohyeong! Start with Gihun!”

“Boss, I’ll handle it. You shouldn’t get your hands dirty.”

“Cut the crap and drag him over. One of you keep watch for Detective Park.”

“Yes, sir!”

One underling ran out the door.

Two others dragged Heo Gihun over and pinned him in front of Dongsu.

“Retire. I’ll just slice one leg. Don’t ever show your face around here again.”

“Dongsaeng! Dongsu!”

“I’m not your dongsaeng. Don’t call my name, you fuck. If you’d just taken the respect I gave you and lived quietly, why’d you do this?”

Yang Soohyeong grabbed Gihun’s left leg.

The Achilles tendon was visible just above the heel.

As the blade approached slowly, Heo Gihun began thrashing in desperation.

“Brother Saseong ordered it! It was Brother Saseong! Stop! Please, Dongsu!”

But Dongsu didn’t even flinch as he moved the blade.

The knife sliced through the Achilles tendon.

“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!”
