Chapter 1217: Chapter 1217: What a Fine Old White Lotus
Xiao Zulinqing cleared her throat lightly. "Little Zhi Liao, in your eyes, am I really such a woman who goes around owing people favors?"
"Isn’t that exactly what you are?" Lu Xingzhi shot back. "Haven’t I been helping you pay those favors back?"
"Let’s not bring that up again. I just mean, I think maybe you could get some inspiration from the piano competition too? You’re a pianist, and I have to admit you’re really gifted, but don’t you guys all swear by ’inspiration’ and stuff?"
"Sister Zu Ling, you really are a qualified agent. Anyway, did you manage to win Xu Zhisen over?" Lu Xingzhi didn’t want to keep going down that road. Compared to this, she’d rather pay a bit of attention to her love life.
"Why are we suddenly talking about that again." Xiao Zulinqing looked a little awkward. "I don’t think he likes me. He probably just sees me as a good buddy, that kind of thing!"
"Didn’t I introduce you to a bunch of outstanding young men? You didn’t like any of them?" Lu Xingzhi remembered that Huo Jincheng had set up a few blind dates with company executives for Xiao Zulinqing.
"Ugh, don’t even mention it. I was actually ready to seriously date one of them, but his family... forget it. In short, it’s a long story full of pain." Fortunately, Xiao Zulinqing had seen enough weirdos; otherwise she really might’ve been pissed to death.
She couldn’t help complaining anyway: "That day it was supposed to just be the two of us meeting up, but I ran into his mom. First she went on and on praising me to the sky right in front of her son.
Then she shooed her son away. Chin held high, she told me I wasn’t good enough for him. Said I was just after his money, and that since her son was a manager at Emperor, he ought to find a chairman’s daughter or something.
I could’ve swallowed all that, but what I could not swallow was that she said I was old. Little Zhi Liao, tell me, am I old? In that moment, I honestly wanted to throw my cup of coffee all over her."
Lu Xingzhi just listened and didn’t cut in.
Then she heard her continue, "I didn’t splash the coffee, but she went and dumped a glass of water all over herself. Right then her son came back, and she put on this tragic, pitiful act.
She said if I didn’t like her I could just say so, that when her son and I got married she could move out or whatever. She even told her son not to blame me, that I definitely didn’t do it on purpose. I honestly wanted to applaud her on the spot—turns out white lotuses come in all ages."
When Lu Xingzhi heard the end of it, she couldn’t help laughing out loud.
"So what did you do?"
"Me?" Xiao Zulinqing rolled her eyes. "I just told her son straight up that we shouldn’t see each other anymore. The café has security cameras—he can go check them himself. Forget it. I can earn my own money; I should stop dreaming about finding a husband."
"Mm, then you should just go chase after Xu Zhisen." Lu Xingzhi really didn’t know what advice to give, so this was the only comfort she could offer.
"Little Zhi Liao, don’t tell me that was your way of comforting me?" Xiao Zulinqing gave Lu Xingzhi a once-over. Heaven really was unfair!
Some people got to be stunningly beautiful and talented.
And some people worked themselves to the bone and still had such a hard time finding a man.
"Yeah." Lu Xingzhi pressed her lips together. "Or what kind are you looking for? I can have President Huo go through the company and help you filter a batch."
"Forget it, I’ll just let nature take its course. Sigh, I was born to have a hard life. If I had your looks, I wouldn’t even bother looking for a man—men would be lining up at my door on their own." Xiao Zulinqing was downright envious.
