Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Extreme Escape

He was about to turn and run but stopped abruptly. He looked around, searching for a means of escape. There was no way he could outrun them on foot.

Just then, he spotted three patrol motorcycles not far away.

Long Ming immediately dashed over and mounted one of the patrol motorcycles. He pulled a key from his pocket and inserted it into the ignition, but it wouldn’t turn!

He quickly pulled it out, tried another key, and gave it a turn.

The motorcycle’s dashboard instantly lit up.

Long Ming was ecstatic. He immediately pressed the start button.

WHIRR~

The engine whirred noisily but didn’t catch.

"Damn it, start!"

Long Ming was growing frantic.

Just then, a rustling sound reached his ears.

Long Ming looked up and saw innumerable red crawling insects closing in from all sides.

Even the window he’d just jumped from was now spewing hordes of red crawlers, which scurried down the wall.

Then, red moths, each half a meter in size, charged toward him like a swarm of hornets.

Long Ming’s expression turned grim at the sight. He pressed the start button again.

VROOOM~

The motorcycle roared to life.

Long Ming yanked the throttle. free𝑤ebnovel.com

With a sharp roar, the motorcycle shot forward.

The swarm of red moths lunged, catching nothing but air.

The motorcycle then plowed directly through the red crawlers.

SQUELCH! SPLAT!

Thick ichor splattered in all directions.

Listening to the sickening crunching sounds, Long Ming sped away on the motorcycle.

VMMMMMM~

The loud roar of the motorcycle was especially jarring in the silent city.

In the areas Long Ming sped past, dense swarms of shelled insects crawled out from sewers and buildings, converging like a tide.

Hearing a commotion behind him, Long Ming glanced at his rearview mirrors, only to find one shattered and the other missing its glass entirely.

He whipped his head around for a look and was greeted by the sight of the densely packed, shelled insects—enough to give anyone trypophobia.

But that wasn’t the worst of it.

The worst part was the red moths, still in hot pursuit.

With no other choice, Long Ming gritted his teeth and gave it more gas, but he didn’t dare to gun it all the way, keeping the speed within a controllable range.

After all, the main road was littered with obstacles; if he went too fast, he’d be unable to dodge in time and would surely crash.

Just then, the needle on the speedometer jumped, and the bike’s speed began to surge uncontrollably.

Long Ming raced the motorcycle down the main road, trying to escape the city at full throttle.

Building after building blurred past him.

RUMBLE—

Suddenly, the ground on the road ahead gave way.

A giant worm, more than ten meters long, crawled out. Its bloated, greasy body was covered in red pustules.

The giant worm opened its massive maw, revealing concentric rings of sharp teeth, waiting for Long Ming to fall right into its trap.

Long Ming was stunned speechless. ’What the hell is that?’

He then gasped and immediately hit the brakes.

But just then, the red moths from behind closed in.

Long Ming was instantly caught in a pincer attack, his life hanging by a thread.

Just at that critical moment, Long Ming executed an extreme lean, veering right at the intersection in front of the giant worm and onto another street.

WHOOSH~

The dense swarm of pursuing red moths shot like a sharp sword straight into the giant worm’s mouth.

The giant worm’s body instantly swelled.

URP—

The giant worm let out a sudden belch.

Long Ming glanced back, thinking he’d shaken his pursuers. But just then, another swarm of red moths appeared from his right.

Long Ming’s eyes hardened. Steering the motorcycle with one hand, he drew a Geko automatic pistol with the other and pulled the trigger!

BANG! BANG!

Moth after moth was hit. Viscous blood splattered as they tumbled from the sky. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

RUSH!

Like sharks drawn to the scent of blood, the swarms of moths descended upon their fallen comrades.

CRUNCH!

In an instant, the moths that had been shot were torn to shreds.

Long Ming’s eye twitched at the sight, but he didn’t stop shooting.

BANG! BANG!

He shot down moth after moth.

Long Ming emptied the entire magazine, then gunned the engine, speeding past while they were busy tearing each other apart.

He glanced back again and saw that the red moths had stopped. Some were even scattering.

Long Ming turned back to face forward, letting out a sigh of relief.

"*Phew...*"

But a second later, his expression froze. He snapped back to his senses and whipped his head around again.

The red moths were scattering like startled birds. Behind them, an enormous flying insect had appeared. It was six meters long with two pairs of cyan, membranous wings. Atop its dragonfly-like head was a three-meter-long spike and two cyan compound eyes.

Just then, a notification popped up on his wristband.

"Cyan Erosion Insect detected."

Seeing this, Long Ming cursed under his breath.

"Shit!"

He gritted his teeth and cranked the throttle all the way, pushing the bike to its max to pull away.

The Cyan Erosion Insect fixed its gaze on Long Ming, beat its wings, and shot past the scattering red moths, pursuing him alone.

Long Ming glanced back again and saw the Cyan Erosion Insect rapidly closing the distance.

Though panic was rising within him, Long Ming didn’t lose his head. He rationally studied the road signs ahead, his expression shifting, before veering right at the next intersection.

But as he turned onto the street, he found the road ahead completely blocked by a pile-up of seven or eight wrecked cars.

Long Ming’s face fell, but he didn’t slow down. Instead, he targeted a wrecked sports car and yanked back on the handlebars, lifting the front wheel.

The entire motorcycle drove up the wrecked sports car, launching into the air and clearing the pile-up.

THUD!

The motorcycle landed hard on the pavement.

But before Long Ming could even sigh in relief, the Cyan Erosion Insect was upon him.

Long Ming’s instincts screamed danger, and he glanced over his shoulder.

He saw the Cyan Erosion Insect open its ghastly maw and spit a glob of green slime toward him.

Long Ming’s expression changed drastically as he swerved hard to the left.

HISS~

The green liquid splattered onto the ground.

A large patch of the concrete surface instantly dissolved.

Seeing its attack miss, the Cyan Erosion Insect’s abdomen swelled again before it spat another glob of green slime at Long Ming.

Hearing the whistling sound of the projectile, Long Ming made another sharp turn to the right, dodging it again.

Missing several times only enraged the Cyan Erosion Insect further. Instead of giving up, it beat its wings furiously, diving rapidly to close in on Long Ming.

It suddenly grew quiet behind him; the creature had stopped spitting slime. An instinctual unease washed over Long Ming, and he looked back.

He was met with the sight of the ghastly insect head right behind him, its spike nearly touching his back.

Long Ming’s heart sank.

The Cyan Erosion Insect opened its massive maw, revealing rows upon rows of sharp teeth as it lunged to bite him.

Yet at this moment of life and death, the corner of Long Ming’s mouth curved into a slight smirk. He then yanked the throttle!

VROOOM—

The motorcycle shot into a narrow, semi-circular tunnel.

CRASH!

The Cyan Erosion Insect slammed headfirst into the tunnel entrance. Its wings snapped on impact, and it let out a pained, agonized shriek.
