Chapter 173: Chapter 34 – The Laufgraan War 9
Orson flailed on his saddle as he struggled to hold himself on his horse. Without his legs, damaged in its soul due to the battle he fought alongside Matthew in hell, he had to rely only on his arms to hold on against his horse’s gallop.
Matthew gave chase. The elves were only in 5, plus Orson, and moved fast through the forest. Mia struggled to keep up and soon was left behind when Matthew enhanced himself with Unholy Mana.
He caught up with a straggler and grabbed his head, sinking it on the ground on the next movement.
At that moment, Orson gave orders to spread out, each in a different direction as he stopped his horse to face Matthew.
"You grew strong, Matthew." Orson said, as his other 4 men scattered through the woods.
Matthew asked Ffyr to take them as he concentrated on Orson.
"You’re still serving Farynn? After all that?" Matthew asked him, taking out Aym’s sword and his gun from his Inventory.
The elf Matthew attacked was unconscious on the floor.
"He saved my life a long time ago." Orson rubbed his scar on his face. "I owe him my life."
"I didn’t want to fight you." Matthew said, aiming his gun at the man.
"You don’t need to. You can always go back." Orson joked.
"Which level are you, now?" Matthew chuckled and asked.
"25"
"I’m 38" Matthew smiled at him.
"I’ve heard." Orson smiled back.
"You can’t win. You know that." Matthew said, taking a step forward, his miasma circling around him.
"I don’t need to win. Just waste your time." Orson kept the smile on his face despite the threat.
"Your men won’t be able to flee." Matthew pointed up as Ffyr flew past them.
"It’s not for them I’m buying time." Orson said with his face changing to a sad expression. "It’s her." She pointed at his back.
Through the tree trunks, Matthew saw at the distance something big approaching. Some goblins ran in front of it, luring it to them.
"What is that?" Matthew asked, surprised.
"A small earth dragon." Orson said. "I’d run if I were you, Matthew. That thing is meant to do heavy damage in your camp. You can’t face it on your own."
"You bastard." Matthew cursed.
"Not my plan. But I had to do it. See you later, Matthew. If you survive." He said as a white light engulfed him and he disappeared with his horse right in front of Matthew.
Matthew then remembered that Orson could use Teleportation magic and not only summon his familiars.
The goblins luring the dragon would surely be familiars of his.
Ffyr captured the running elves with the help of Mia. They were just weak young elves entrusted to help Orson with his plot of sending the earth dragon against Farzan’s encampment. They surrendered as soon as they were caught.
Matthew now had a difficult choice in his hands. Face the dragon there in the middle of the forest alone, or allow the goblins to bring it to their camp and fight the dragon with the rest of the troops.
His Identify skill showed him that the dragon’s level was 83. Even stronger than Farzan and Firynn. It had no chance to destroy the encampment, but it was strong enough to kill several men and cause great damage.
Also, it could open the opportunity for Farynn’s troops to leave the fortress and engage Farzan’s with an advantage while the dragon was being subdued.
He had to stop it there.
The goblins were now close enough for Matthew to see them. There were 5, 3 of them carrying eggs as they rushed nimbly through the trees.
Behind them, a wide lizard with short legs and brown scales gave chase. It was as big as two elephants. Its head looked like a dinosaur with 6 white horns coming out of it. Its paws had very long curved claws made for digging. Its tail was long with 4 white spikes covering its end. It had no wings, but several white horns protected its back.
While it ran, it roared loudly. It just hit the trees in front of it, making them fall to the ground and opening a clearing wherever it passed.
Matthew used his gun to kill 2 of the goblins that weren’t carrying the eggs, but the others he rushed with his blade to kill them without breaking the eggs. Perhaps the dragon would leave if it got its eggs back?
Matthew decapitated one of the goblins and safely held the huge egg with his arm. However, as soon as Matthew did it, the goblins smashed the eggs they were carrying on the ground.
Before Matthew could do anything else, the goblins vanished in a bright light. Summoned by Orson, surely.
When the dragon caught up to Matthew, he slowly put the egg on the floor and stepped away. He lifted his hands trying to show the animal that he was not a threat.
However, the earth dragon roared loudly after seeing two of its eggs shattered on the floor. It jumped, much higher than a creature that size seemed to be able to, and came down with its claws over Matthew.
Matthew jumped back dodging the attack.
"I’m not your enemy!" Matthew screamed.
The beast, however, didn’t understand. It kept its attack with its claws forcing Matthew to draw his swords and protect himself deflecting its strikes.
Belial’s sword, which had no problem cutting through a demon king’s skin, had no effect on the dragon’s claws.
Soon enough, Matthew was sent flying away by an upwards strike that made him pierce through a tree and land on the rocky ground.
The dragon was too strong and tough for Matthew. He only had his speed that was superior to the beast’s. Even goblins could move faster than it.
Matthew knew he didn’t have a chance to defeat it, but he didn’t have to.
He used his superior speed to dodge the dragon’s attacks and climbed on its back holding fast on the spikes that protected it.
He first tried to use his Entice skill, but it didn’t work. The dragon didn’t have a reasoning mind for Matthew to dominate. The way it thought was the same as beasts, too alien for Matthew to control.
The dragon shook violently trying to get Matthew away from him. But Matthew managed to hold fast.
He then used his Witchcraft skill. If he couldn’t control the beast’s mind, he could at least induce it with emotions.
Matthew remembered his fight against the Bashmu. He instilled in the dragon the deep fear he felt years ago when he first thought against demons.
The dragon roared and started to shake violently.
It was a mistake on Matthew’s side.
Fear is not an emotion that makes one run away. It’s an emotion that makes one survive. Either fleeing or attacking. Fight or flight.
The dragon still had an egg there. It wouldn’t flee. It wouldn’t leave its progeny behind.
It jumped high and landed on its back, trying to squash Matthew against the ground, forcing him to let go of its back.
Matthew realized his mistake too late. True to its name, the dragon moved the earth around it with magic, sending hundreds of small spikes flying against him.
He hid behind a tree, but it wasn’t enough to stop the attack. The tree was filled with small holes and so was Matthew. None penetrating too deep, but making him bleed.
Matthew pulled away some of the spikes that were embedded in his skin and used his Heal skill to close the wounds.
The dragon didn’t let him. It charged, trying to bite Matthew and crushing the tree between them in the same attack.
Matthew dodged, being forced to stop his healing to concentrate on his movement on the uneven forest floor.
The beast used another earth spell to create a cage of stones around Matthew who used Belial’s sword to cut out a window for himself to flee, jumping out.
Still affected by the fear Matthew inflicted upon it, the dragon was steadfast on killing him to protect its egg.
Matthew’s Sixth Sense skill warned him of the dozens of spikes the dragon conjured from the floor, but he was forced to use his blades to protect himself from a claw attack that came soon after.

The dragon now gnarled and studied him.
It’s then that he saw Ffyr and Mia coming to his aid.
Telepathically, Ffyr warned him of their plan. Mia created a bright flash of light blinding the dragon, while Matthew used his Shadow Form skill to sneak away.
A clever plan, but none of them knew what the dragon was able to do.
Matthew was hit by a magic missile thrown against him by the dragon, which made Matthew come out of the shadow. Even with its eyes closed and temporarily blind by Mia’s spell, the creature knew where they were. It could also sense mana. freewebnovel.cσ๓
Matthew could not flee.
