Chapter 65: Stalling Princess.
We took Sasha to the nurse’s office so she could rest and ice her knee, while Malo headed off on his secret mission to erase that video footage from the basketball court. It was entirely up to me to stall Princess. All I had to do was wait right here until she stepped out of the private classroom I was currently standing outside of, and then keep her busy until Malo signaled that he was done. That was his direct instruction. I have been leaning against this wall for about two minutes now, checking my phone every few seconds.
I stood outside the door, trying to see if I could hear even a tiny bit of whatever was happening inside. I pressed my ear against the door, but I couldn’t hear a single thing. It was completely soundproof. Whatever was going on inside stayed totally quiet, with no sound leaking out into the hallway. It made me wonder what kind of mental health class needed that much privacy.
I was getting lost in my own thoughts, worrying about Peamah and the camera, when I heard the classroom door finally click open.
I looked up fast.
It was Princess.
She stopped in her tracks, looking a bit surprised to see me standing there in the restricted wing of the school.
I waved my hand at her, feeling my face get hot.
"Hi."
The hi came out like an awkward whisper. I was trying so hard to act cool and casual, but my heart was racing.
She looked around the empty hallway, then back at me, her eyes narrowing slightly. She was still standing halfway in the door, her hand gripping the handle.
"How did you get here? And where is MG?" she asked. Her voice was suspicious.
"No, no, no, no. Malo has nothing to do with me being here today. I don’t even know where he is right now," I lied. I tried to act like it was a normal Monday, but I could feel myself starting to sweat inside my clothes. My palms were getting damp.
"Then explain how exactly you are here, because this hallway is private. No one is allowed to pass through here without a permit. So I’m listening," she said, letting go of the door. freewёbnoνel.com
"I was looking for you. I wanted to talk to you about something important. So I just did the same thing I did on Saturday. I followed your scent all the way here," I said. I lowered my eyes a bit as I spoke. Whenever I try to tell a lie, my eyes always do that annoying thing where they won’t look the person in the face.
"You remember when I said I was in a place where you could never sense me because of your triggered heat? This is that place. This classroom is built to hide a wolf’s scent," she said.
She wasn’t buying a single word of it.
"Lately, my senses have just become heightened. Every morning I wake up and I hear birds chirping from miles away. I can smell things from so far away now. My sight is getting sharper too. Even on moon water, I can still sense you. Your caramel scent is just so intoxicating. It drives me insane. Fucking insane. You are intoxicating," I blurted out.
"I am intoxicating?" she asked, her eyebrows shooting up.
"Yes, you are intoxicating. You, especially. That scent of yours. I was standing at the main hall when it hit me. I had no choice but to follow it here. So maybe you should try harder to hide it, and those engineers who built this classroom should fix their failed invention, because it’s clearly not working. I can still smell you through the walls."
I didn’t even know what I was saying at that point. I just kept talking and talking, hoping the words would distract her from checking her office.
"I am pretty sure the engineers did their job well. No one with an intense sense of smell should be able to sniff through this classroom. If you were here the whole time, why didn’t I sense you? It’s working perfectly," she said, crossing her arms.
Damn it.
She wasn’t letting this go at all. She was too smart for this.
"Are you pregnant?" I asked suddenly. It was the first thing that popped into my head to change the subject.
"What? Why are you asking that? You’re the one who is pregnant," she said, looking completely confused now.
"That’s right, I am the one who is pregnant. I’ve been standing outside here in this cold hall waiting for you. Do you know how long that was? My legs are aching, and now you’re just standing there arguing with me about engineers. Were they thinking about a pregnant woman when they built this place? Were they thinking about how our senses would react to the materials? If they tested this place, they should have brought in a pregnant woman to check it first," I said.
I paused, and I could feel my voice starting to shake.
"You are upsetting me right now. I can’t believe you’re doubting me like this," I said.
I don’t even know when the tears started falling down my face. I was wiping them away quickly with my fingers, feeling confused myself. I didn’t know if it was the hormones or the stress of the basketball court, but I couldn’t stop.
I looked at Princess through my blurry vision. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
Her expression changed instantly. The suspicion vanished, replaced by worry.
"Okay, okay, stop crying. Why are you crying?" she said. She stepped away from the door and walked toward me. The door shut behind her automatically with a soft thud.
She pulled me into a hug, wrapping her arms around me and trying to calm me down.
"I can’t believe you don’t trust me. You don’t trust me at all. I thought we were friends," I sobbed into her shoulder. I felt bad for using her feelings like this, but I had to keep her away from that video.
"I never said I didn’t trust you," she said softly, rubbing my back.
"You did. Indirectly. You trust those engineers more than you trust the girl carrying your pups," I said, letting out another sniffle.
"Okay, omega. I’m sorry. Please stop crying. You’re making this really awkward. Just stop. What was it you wanted to talk about?" she asked, pulling back a little to look at me.
"I forgot," I muttered. I wiped my nose with the back of my hand.
Then I sniffed again.
"I’m hungry."
