Chapter 55: Princess Loss Control

The moment those two saw Princess standing there, they immediately shut up. The silence was instant and heavy. Princess was now standing right beside me, her presence feeling like a cold weight in the air. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

"What did you guys just say?"

Oh shit. She heard. Even though they weren’t being particularly loud, the mall had carried their voices. I could hear them clearly, and there was no way a high-ranking Alpha like Princess wouldn’t. My heart started to hammer against my ribs again.

"Boss, you are here..." Sasha said. She tried to force a nervous smile, but it looked more like a grimace.

"Hi Princess, bye Princess." Malo didn’t even wait. He made a sharp 180-degree turn and decided to make a run for it. He didn’t get far.

"MG, I asked a question."

Princess’ voice was low, but it had that authority that made Malo stop immediately. He froze in his tracks, his shoulders slumping. He slowly turned around and walked back toward us like a dog that had been caught digging in the trash. Just when I thought he was going to say something reasonable or at least try to lie his way out of it, he cracked.

"I swear on the moon goddess, I never wanted to involve myself in this! I said don’t go there but Faye did what she wanted. She wanted to play hero, and then Peamah was going to attack her and I couldn’t just watch that. I tried my best but Peamah was stronger, and then out of the blue this girl ripped out his heart, and she was standing far away! She ripped his heart without even touching him and she threatened me and Faye, she almost ripped out our own hearts! And then Peamah came back alive and she continued to blackmail us!"

Malo rushed his words so fast he was nearly breathless, pointing a trembling finger at Sasha. Sasha looked like she wanted the floor to open up and swallow her whole. She looked even more nervous than Malo.

Princess stared at Malo for a long beat, her face unreadable. Then she turned her gaze toward me. I saw her hand tighten around the book she was holding until her knuckles turned white.

"What is he saying? You were risking your life for someone else?"

"Hey, I thought Sasha was in danger so I was trying to help..." I started to explain, but she cut me off.

"You are pregnant, do you know that? You should think of the pups before any other life. Their lives should be the first thing you think of," she voiced out. The intensity in her voice made me flinch.

"And you!" She turned her attention to Sasha.

Sasha didn’t even try to defend herself. She immediately dropped to her knees, sobbing. People around the mall were already starting to stop and stare at us, sensing the shift in the atmosphere.

"What were you doing? Trying to harm my pups? You tried to kill their mother and threatened their mother!" Princess spat out. The anger was rising in her now, visible in the way her eyes started to glow.

She dropped the book from her hand. It hit the floor with a dull thud.

With one hand, she grabbed Sasha by the shoulder and lifted her off her knees like she weighed absolutely nothing. In one fluid, violent motion, she slammed her into the nearest wall.

Fuck hell.

My stomach did a flip. Is she really going to kill her? Right now? In front of everyone?

Malo stumbled backward and fell to the ground, his eyes wide. He didn’t even try to stand back up; he just crawled away a few inches.

"Princess, stop, you are hurting her!" I begged, stepping toward them.

"She tried to kill my pups. I don’t spare anyone who tries to kill my family."

Her voice didn’t shake at all. It was cold and certain. That scared me more than if she had been screaming. I didn’t know what was happening to her, but she wasn’t stopping, and I couldn’t just stand there and watch a murder happen. Even though I didn’t like Sasha, even though she had blackmailed us, something in me wanted to protect her. It was that same stupid feeling I had that night in the woods.

I just couldn’t stand and watch her die.

Princess’ hand moved from Sasha’s shoulder to her neck. She started strangling her, her fingers digging into the skin.

Sasha’s legs kicked weakly against the wall, her sneakers scuffing the paint. Her hands clawed at Princess’ wrist, trying to pry the iron grip off, but it was like trying to move a mountain.

No one moved to help. The people in the mall just watched like it was some kind of choreographed show. It was like it wasn’t real to them. Plus, who wants to challenge an Alpha?

But it was real to me. I could see the color draining from Sasha’s face.

I rushed forward, grabbing Princess’ arm with both of my hands. I pulled with everything I had, which wasn’t much compared to her.

"Please Princess, stop! You are going to kill her! You are not a murderer! Please stop!" I cried out, my voice echoing in the mall.

"You might be right on that. I am not a murderer, but she will be my first," Princess said.

Her grip tightened.

Sasha began to choke harder, her movements becoming slow and sluggish. Her eyes were starting to roll back.

"Please stop! For the sake of your pups, don’t be that ruthless Alpha! Please stop!" I said. My voice broke as I held onto her hand, my tears blurring my vision.

For a second, nothing happened. The world seemed to stop.

Then, Princess loosened her grip.

Her hand dropped away.

Sasha fell to the floor in a heap, coughing and gasping for air. She held her neck with both hands like she was trying to keep her head attached to her body.

Thank goodness.

Thank goodness she listened.

My body finally relaxed, the terrifying tension draining out of me all at once. I felt like I might collapse myself.

Princess stood perfectly still. Her glowing blue eyes slowly dimmed back to their normal shade. Her breathing began to steady, though her posture was still rigid.

By now, Kiara and Beam had made it to the same floor. They must have heard the commotion because they came running. They had seen the tail end of the violence.

"Oh my god, baby, are you okay? What happened to you?" Kiara rushed forward, wrapping her arms around Princess in a protective hug.

"I’m fine, okay? You don’t have to worry about me," Princess said, though her voice sounded a bit distant.

"Are you sure? What was happening to you? Do you need me to take you home?" Kiara asked. Her voice was soft and full of genuine concern as she checked Princess for any injuries.

"No, not now. I need to settle this first. I need to make sure my pups are fine," Princess said. She gently pulled away from the hug, her focus returning to the three of us.

I moved over to help Sasha up. I checked to see if she could actually stand. She leaned on me slightly, still clutching her bruised neck, her breaths coming in uneven hitches. She wouldn’t look up. Her eyes stayed glued to the floor, carefully avoiding Princess.

That was probably for the best.

"Now you three," Princess said. Her voice was calmer now, but it was still heavy with a threat. "I want you to tell me how the hell Peamah Frost is alive when you claimed to kill him."

Silence fell over the group again.

Malo looked at me, his face pale and sweating.

Sasha kept her eyes on the floor, her shoulders shaking.

I swallowed hard. My throat felt dry. Princess was waiting for an answer, and I knew she wouldn’t let us leave until she got one. But the problem was that we were just as confused as she was.

Because the truth is, we don’t know.
