Chapter 36: Malo Apologize

I was in the living room watching TV with Kaye. My brother had already been discharged from the hospital. He was sitting at the dining table with Eriko, both discussing something. I did not put my mind on what they were talking about, but I do know it had something to do with bills. He just got discharged and he is already back to this bills shit. freewёbnoνel.com

The TV was loud enough to fill the room but not loud enough to drown their voices completely. Every now and then a few words from their conversation slipped through. Numbers. Payments. Something about deadlines.

I didn’t want to make them realize that I was listening.

So I stayed where I was, leaning back into the couch, letting my eyes stay glued to the TV like whatever was playing there was the most important thing in the world.

My eyes were on the TV and my phone. I have been staring at it lately. I was expecting the phone to vibrate or make a ding sound. I don’t know why I was expecting Princess to send a message or call, even if I wasn’t going to pick up. It felt weird not seeing the phone screen with her name on it.

The phone stayed quiet. The screen stayed dark.

My thumb brushed the side of it once before I stopped myself.

I just took a deep breath and turned the phone screen down.

I tried to focus on the TV again. Some characters were arguing on the screen but their voices barely registered in my head.

I was focusing on the TV when the doorbell rang. Eriko went to open the door.

The chair legs scraped lightly against the floor when he stood.

"Hey MG, how are you doing?"

What the fuck is he doing here?

I sat up a little without meaning to.

"Good evening Mr Kings, I’m doing great. Is Faye home?"

"It’s Eriko, just call me Eriko. Leo and I are divorced."

"Apologies, I’m still getting used to it. Hahaha Mr Eriko."

"Eriko," Eriko corrected. "Faye, your friend is here!" he shouted.

I stood up from the couch, heading straight to the door.

"He is not my friend," I said out loud, making sure even Malo heard.

Eriko went back inside while I stood at the door. Malo stood there holding his bag like he had come straight from somewhere.

"What do you want?"

"I’m sorry Faye, I never meant to be some kind of opportunist, shithead. I was desperate and I thought maybe if I asked you. I’m truly sorry," he apologized with a low voice.

He did not look up immediately. His eyes stayed somewhere near the ground.

"Why do you need money so much? I have seen you work non-stop, even during school hours. Being an errand boy in school, being the janitor and Princess’s PA."

I had asked because all I have seen him talk about is money non-stop. How he was always going on about getting rich.

He shifted his weight slightly. Then he finally looked up.

"I’m the eldest of seven siblings. My younger siblings are in preschool or kindergarten. One is in middle school. Our parents don’t act like they care. Even right now they are expecting the eighth. I am the only one who is taking care of them. Paying the bills and making sure they get well fed. That’s why I worked so hard. And working for Princess is the only reasonable job that pays high."

"Fuck!"

The word slipped out before I could stop it.

I was speechless. I had no words to say to him. Should I give him a hug or a beer?

I thought my brother’s life was worse, but he was way worse. His parents are around but they don’t care about their children’s well-being. And I thought if my mom was alive maybe my brother’s life was going to be easy and not full of struggles.

For a moment neither of us spoke. The night air sat quietly between us. Somewhere inside the house the TV kept playing.

..

We stood across Lunny Club. I was still skeptical about meeting Princess, but Malo said he was going to do the talking. I just had to follow him in case Beam tries to beat him up.

Music leaked from inside the building. People moved in and out of the entrance every few minutes.

"So what are you going to say? Because my legs are freezing. I am doing what I am supposed to be against. But for you," I said, putting my hands in my hoodie. I wore a hoodie because I seemed to be out of jackets. Some are in the laundry while the rest have been ripped off.

I shifted my weight from one leg to the other.

"Yes you can do this, I believe in you Faye," he said as I gave him a stare.

"You said you will come with me."

"Yes, we can do this. I believe in us," he corrected himself and looked towards Lunny Club.

Then we saw Sasha stepping out of Lunny Club. She entered a brand new car and drove off.

The engine hummed before fading down the road.

"Look at her, she didn’t have a car. Just three days and she already has one," Malo said, watching her drive off.

"Well, maybe she doesn’t have siblings to look after. We are getting your job back tonight. Okay, let’s go," I said.

Another Porsche stopped and parked in front of Lunny Club. The headlights swept across the street before turning off.

Kiara was the one driving.

She stepped out. From across the street and with the neon lights shining, I could see her clearly. Her dressing, she wore a short mini skirt, a crop top that exposed her tummy, and her breasts popped out like balloons. Her face was neatly done with makeup. She was wearing heels that made her look taller and carried a small handbag.

She walked into the club.

"Damn it, we can’t go anymore."

"Huh?" I turned to Malo.

"Kiara is here. She is going to keep Princess busy all night. We won’t be able to see Princess."

"Huh?" I repeated again. I don’t know what he meant but I had a feeling that I was the one who didn’t want to know.

"What is with the huh?" Malo said.

"Are they still together?" I asked.

"Obviously they are always together. They have never broken up once. They are like an unbreakable bond. No matter how things are, they are always together. Kiara is her future Luna."

The words sat heavy in the air.

For a moment I just stared at the entrance of the club where Kiara had disappeared.

Fucking hell.

I’m a motherfucking baby mama.

Or more like a side piece.
