Chapter 271: Meeting Uncle PP

Again, Malo didn’t come to pick me up as usual. I don’t know why, but he keeps sending me a text every time saying he was busy, and I have noticed that he has been acting a little distant lately.

I stared down at my phone screen as the cool air of the night hit my face, his short message looking completely blank and uncaring on the display. In class, his jovial manner was gone. His usual loud laughs and complains were completely missing from the room, leaving his desk feeling totally quiet. He barely talked, and during lunch time he wasn’t speaking at all. He had just pushed his food around his plate with a fork, staring straight at the wall like a ghost.

When I asked him what was wrong, he just said nothing. He had snapped his locker shut with a loud click and walked away before I could even open my mouth to push further. And that put worry in my mind. My chest felt tight with a sudden weight, my wolf senses telling me that something was completely tearing him apart from the inside.

But first, I needed to solve my girlfriend issues with her four eyed therapist. I had to focus on the immediate danger threatening my home before I could go chasing after Malo’s mood swings.

So I visited my boss, Uncle Pali. I pushed the front door open, the little bell above the frame chiming loudly to announce my arrival.

"Oh, see who finally remembers she has a job."

I hadn’t even entered completely and he had already started talking. He was standing right behind the counter, his sharp eyes locking onto me before my shoes could even cross the welcome mat.

"Hi, Uncle PP," I greeted. I dragged my feet forward, dropping my heavy school bag onto a nearby stool with a soft thud.

"Why haven’t you come to work for weeks? You said you were going to resume this month." Uncle Pali demanded, crossing his arms over his chest as he glared down at me.

"I sent a message through Henry to tell you that I had to study for my exams and it was going to take two weeks. I told him a week ago." I explained, rubbing my tired eyes to show him just how exhausted I actually was from all the cramming.

Seriously, I wasn’t lying. I told Henry to tell him. I had clearly repeated the words to the guy, making sure he nodded before he went home.

"Henry," he called out. Uncle Pali’s voice boomed through the quiet shop, rattling the small jars on the shelves.

"Yes, Boss." A muffled voice shouted back from the rear hallway.

"Henry is still here?" I muttered under my breath, my eyebrows knitting together in confusion.

Henry came out. He was putting on a pair of his train theme pajamas. The bright flannel pants were hanging loose around his ankles, and he was casually scratching the back of his neck as he stepped into the light.

Was he living here now? He looked entirely too comfortable, blinking sleepily as if he had just crawled out of a bed in the back room.

"Henry, did Faye tell you to inform me about not coming to work?" Uncle Pali asked, his tone dropping into a dangerous rumble.

Henry thought for a moment before speaking. He tilted his head up toward the ceiling, his fingers tapping against his chin with a slow, agonizing rhythm.

"Yes. I was going to tell you, but you told me to fix the roof and you went out after that, so I left a message on a paper." Henry recalled, gesturing vaguely toward the cluttered desk behind the counter.

"I did not receive your message," Pali said. Then he turned to me. "Faye, what happened to a phone? You could have called or texted. We had plans for this month. You are supposed to be learning about your powers and how to control them." He shook his head in frustration, his sharp gaze making me feel incredibly small.

So much learning this month. I can’t believe I am going to be learning for the rest of my life. My mind felt like it was going to literally explode from the sheer volume of information being shoved into it every single day. Learning about my pups and how to be a mother, learning about school subjects, and now I have to learn about my Moon Wolf heritage.

It was all becoming too much to handle at once.

"It did not occur to me because I thought Henry was going to inform you. But well, now you have been informed and I’m glad. I promise after my exam I’m going to resume my work." I said, trying to smooth things over so we could get down to the real reason I had walked into the shop.

"So you are not here for work?" Uncle Pali asked, his eyebrows raising as he leaned forward against the wooden counter.

"Uncle PP, it’s past 9 p.m. I’m supposed to be home by now, holding my precious babies and putting them to sleep. But my sick girlfriend has to be the one doing it tonight," I explained. The thought of Princess sitting alone in the apartment with her freezing skin made a sudden wave of panic rush through my veins.

"What happened to Princess?" Henry asked, his sleepy expression instantly vanishing as he stepped closer to the counter.

"She is not feeling well lately. That’s the reason I came here." I said.

So I showed Uncle PP a sample of Princess’s medicine. It was a powder-based kind, unlike her former drug which looked plant-based. I pulled the small plastic container from my pocket and set it gently onto the wood, the dust shifting around inside the clear walls.

He picked it up, holding it up against the bright lightbulb to examine the texture. He said he was going to get a specialist to help me figure out what kind of drug it was. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully, his face growing incredibly serious as he slid the container into his own drawer for safekeeping. free𝑤ebnovel.com

I also told him about Beam and her erotic dreams. I leaned in across the counter, lowering my voice to a whisper as I explained how the girl kept seeing a blinding light whenever she closed her eyes. PP again told me he wasn’t a Were-Witch who could interpret dreams and that Beam should seek a Were-Witch for help. He waved his hand in the air defensively, wanting absolutely nothing to do with the topic.

I told him about someone manipulating her mind, and yep, that was the reason. Beam’s hidden memories were appearing.

Well I can’t wait to tell Princess first before telling Beam which I am not going to tell.

It also turned out that Henry was staying with Uncle PP at the shop. Henry had put a hole through the attic and caused several other problems, so Erico handed Henry over to Uncle PP as a guardian and also to find out about his mysterious strength. Henry looked down at his slippers, looking completely guilty as Uncle Pali laid out all the damage the boy had managed to cause in such a short amount of time.

After getting what I wanted, I said goodnight to them and Kali, who was busy sleeping. I checked the small chair in the corner where Kali was curled up completely under a small blanket.

I grabbed my bag from the stool and headed straight out into the cool night air, shoving my hands deep into my pockets as I hurried down the dark pavement, desperate to get back to the clubhouse and check on Princess’s temperature before the midnight chill set in.
