Chapter 262: Kiara Warns Faye

When they got to the clubhouse, Kiara was in the kids’ area playing with the pups, or more accurately, bored while pretending to play with them. She looked like she wanted to be anywhere else in the world, her shoulders slumped as she sat right in the center of the brightly colored foam mats with a completely blank expression.

She sat with her legs crossed, one hand supporting her jaw while the other pushed a small toy car for Ranny. Her fingers barely moved the wheels, sending it rolling a few inches forward before it came to a complete stop against a stuffed animal. Minny was busy tugging at her clothes. He had a tight grip on the hem of her clean shirt, pulling the fabric down with his chubby little hands. She didn’t shout or make any noise, but she clearly wasn’t happy with how rough he was being. Her eyebrows twitched up in a sharp, annoyed line, her body going completely stiff as she tried to gently nudge his small fingers away from her outfit.

Donny was playing with her playdough, trying to press her tiny fingers into it. She was totally focused on the small purple lump, her mouth open in a little pout as she left the rest of the room completely ignored.

Charlie was busy playing with toys. She was sitting in the far corner of the barrier, banging two plastic trucks together to make loud clanging noises that filled the quiet space.

Leonny, however, was bored. He had been playing all day, and it wasn’t exciting anymore. He had tossed his rattle to the side, his little legs kicking against the floor as he looked around the room for something new to do.

Then his instincts kicked in.

His Mommy was home.

He immediately crawled toward the entrance, wanting to meet her, but the little fence wouldn’t let him pass. He scrambled across the floor , his knees moving double time until his chest smacked right against the gate. Annoyed by the obstacle, he was about to climb over it when Faye reached him first and lifted him into her arms. She grabbed him right under his armpits, hauling his sturdy little body up against her chest before his legs could clear the top rail.

The boredom vanished instantly, replaced by excitement. Leonny always became happy whenever he saw Faye, as if she were his personal happiness pill. He buried his face right into her neck, his tiny hands locking around her collar as he let out a series of high pitched, happy puppy squeaks.

Minny left Kiara’s clothes alone and crawled toward his mommy, spreading his arms for her to carry him.

She managed to scoop him up with her free arm, balancing his heavy weight on her other hip while both of them started wriggling around to get closer to her face.

"Oh, finally you’re back," Kiara said as she stood up from the play area and stepped outside the fence.

Malo walked straight into the kitchen. He was going to put away the groceries. He didn’t even look back at them, the plastic bags rustling loudly as he carried them over to the counter to start unpacking the baby supplies.

"Where’s Princess?" Faye asked after realizing Princess wasn’t in the game room. She checked the empty gaming desk and the couch, her internal radar immediately searching for her girlfriend’s familiar scent.

"Out for a smoke or something," Kiara replied as she began packing her bag, preparing to leave. "So why are you late? You’re supposed to be back by 8."

"Just because you spend most of your time here doesn’t mean you have the right to question me girl," Faye replied.

She wasn’t looking at Kiara. Instead, she was focused on Ronny both now seating on the flooy, tickling his feet while he laughed nonstop. She dug her fingers into his tiny toes, his loud, wheezing giggles instantly warming up her cold mood.

She smiled while speaking. She kept her face bright and happy for the sake of the pups, refusing to let the girl see how much her nagging voice was actually getting under her skin.

"As a mother, you’re meant to be home on time. Do I look like a nanny to you?" Kiara asked, her voice carrying a sharp, judgmental edge that cut right through the sounds of the toys.

"I didn’t ask you to look after my pups. I left them with their mama, not you," Faye shot back. She kept her tone low but firm, her fingers continuing to play with Leonny’s dark hair to keep herself from snarling out loud.

"You really are a bitchey, you know that? I deserve a thank you for watching over your little family, which I gave to you with kindness, not this treatment. You’re just pushing me to do something I don’t want to do," Kiara said as she finished packing up.

"When are you going home? Are you planning on sleeping over?" Faye asked. She finally looked up at her, her voice completely flat as she waited for her to take the hint and walk out the front door. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"Don’t you have eyes? Do I look like I’m playing chess?" Kiara replied before walking closer to her.

Faye was inside the play area while Kiara stood outside it. Kiara rested her hands on the fence.

"Take my advice. Be nice to me and don’t try to push me. What you have is precious. You don’t want to lose it, do you?" Kiara said. Her voice dropped into a low, quiet murmur that made the hairs on the back of Faye’s neck stand straight up. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

Faye smile remained because the pups were around her, and she didn’t want to bring negative energy into the room. She especially didn’t want Leonny crying because his mommy looked angry. She forced her lips to stay curved upward, but her teeth were clenched so tight her jaw began to ache.

Even Kiara wore a smile. A friendly smile.

Or perhaps the smile of a friendly rivalry. It was that fake look she always put on whenever she was trying to manipulate a situation, her eyes completely cold behind the warm expression.

"If you try to get between me and my family, I won’t take it lightly, I will fight back.." Faye warned. She locked her eyes directly onto hers, this was war..

"Then you should be careful with the way you speak to me. Now that I happen to be spending more time with your... family, who knows what might happen after two weeks?" Kiara whispered. She leaned in even closer over the gate, her breath hot against the cool air of the room.

That irritated Faye immediately.

It felt like a threat. Faye’s chest went tight, a sudden wave of heat rushing through her veins as her protective instincts flared up to the maximum.

To Faye, it sounded like a threat.

To Kiara, however, she was simply trying to warn Faye about what was happening. Putting her and Princess alone together every afternoon without their third best friend around was no coincidence, it was planned.

A plan to take Faye’s place. As the mother.... And as the girlfriend.
