Inside Kiara’s residence, in her bedroom, on her bed lay Beamer Frost, half-naked from the waist up. In front of her, sitting on the edge of the bed, was Kiara, now fully dressed, busy fixing her hair and putting on her makeup.
Beam checked her phone. It was 1 a.m. in the morning on Saturday.
She watched as Kiara focused on her lipstick. She was precise and careful when it came to her makeup. Kiara would rather be naked, but makeup was a must. But it was midnight; she wasn’t supposed to be wearing makeup unless...
"Are you going out?" Beam asked.
"Why are you still here? We are done, so you should leave," Kiara said, not even looking at the girl behind her.
"Just a few minutes, okay? I have been helping Princess with the baby shower arrangements, and today I have to pick up the piñata and insert the butterflies."
"Whatever," Kiara said. She was done with her makeup. Then she stood up, grabbed Beam’s clothes from the ground, and tossed them to Beam, who caught them immediately.
"Put your clothes on. Let’s go for a walk," Kiara said.
Beam smiled and quickly stood up from the bed and started wearing her clothes.
"Should we stop by the convenience store and grab some drinks and go get pizza?" Beam asked.
"I said a walk, not a date-walk. It’s just an escort out of my house," Kiara said lazily.
"But my car is here," Beam said.
"Alright then, get out of my house."
"Okay, let’s go for a walk. I will come get my car later in the day."
After Beam was done putting on her clothes, she realized that Kiara was struggling with her heel buckle.
Without being asked, Beam went to her, crouched down, and helped her with the heel, then helped her with the second foot.
The two walked side by side in the street. Beam, as usual, was quiet. Kiara was just feeling the air, skipping while walking.
She stayed in the middle of the road, spreading both hands and breathing in the midnight air. Then she looked at Beam, who was standing there like a statue.
"What are you standing there for? Come on, I want you to hug me," Kiara said.
Beam walked toward her.
"What are you, a snail? Run faster."
Beam immediately ran to Kiara and hugged her tightly. Beam wrapped her arms around the girl of her dreams, the girl she didn’t mind spending the rest of her life with.
Every moment with her was a dream come true. The insults she got and endured, the things she had to do just so she could hug her like this...
Beam was not just a puppy to Kiara; she was a loyal dog who would do anything for her.
But then Kiara returned the hug, something she hardly ever did. Kiara wrapped her arms around Beam.
It was not just any hug; it was a passionate one.
"So this is what it feels like..." she muttered as she breathed in Beam’s scent. "You are a selfish one."
Beam didn’t say anything. The two remained in that position for a while.
After pulling away, still standing close to each other, Kiara stared into Beam’s eyes. She touched her face with a smile and leaned in to kiss Beam.
"You usually ask me to kiss you," Beam said as the two sat down on a park bench, both eating ice cream cones.
"Just trying something new."
"Does that mean you are willing to be my girlfriend?"
"In your dreams."
Beam nodded her head, understanding her statement, and looked at the grass.
"I always dreamed of you hugging me like that. We are making progress," Beam said.
"My sister will be arriving soon," Kiara said.
"Does that mean I can’t come to your house anymore?"
"I don’t know. She might be staying with us or with her husband. It’s up to her. But I don’t want you coming to my house again," Kiara said.
"Okay. It’s only me and my brother. He is not going to be a problem since he is on probation, and my dad is always at the station. He barely comes home."
"I am not coming to your house."
"Then we can meet at the King’s Hotel. You have a room there, right? Or Princess’s mansion."
"I don’t want to see you again, Beam. This is the last time we are ever going to see each other, like this."
"That’s what you always say, then you call me later in the night."
"I’m not going to do that anymore. Beam, I am serious this time."
Beam was quiet. Then she stood up from the bench, staring at the girl in front of her.
"Why can’t you just accept me? I have done everything for you. I’m always there. Why can’t you just let me in?"
"Because you are not an Alpha."
"So I have to become an Alpha before we can be together?"
"Yes. I need an Alpha."
"If you needed an Alpha, then why did you sabotage your relationship with Princess? Since she is the Alpha you needed, why make me do all those things to her just so she could break up with you?"
"If you knew where I was coming from, maybe you would understand. But I don’t need you to understand... I used you to achieve what I wanted, and now it’s hard to get rid of you. You’re still leeching onto me like I am your life support. I have told you several times to stay away from me, but no, you won’t."
"It’s because you keep calling me back!"
"Stop loving me."
"I won’t."
"You won’t?"
"Yes. I will always love you, even if you are a selfish brat. I will never stop loving you because you are the only one who gets me."
Kiara let out a short laugh as she looked at the girl, then at a corner....
"Since you are too stubborn and I am sick of it... I didn’t want to do this, but you leave me no choice."
"What did you mean by..."
Before Beam could finish speaking, someone behind her placed both hands on her temples. Immediately, Beam froze and her eyes turned white.

The person behind all this happened to be the night walker, Dre.
The two looked at each other..
"What did you say to her?" Kiara asked after helping the unconscious Beam sit on the bench.
"The same thing you told me to say," Dre replied.
As Kiara touched Beam’s face, Dre continued.
"A deal is a deal. Give me the book."
From her long coat, Kiara brought out an old animal-skin book the size of a journal. Without looking at Dre, still staring at the unconscious Beam, she handed the book over.
Dre collected the book.
"It’s a pleasure," Dre said, turning away.
"You better not cause any trouble with that book, and stay away from the tunnel. It would be better if you left Oakland for good," Kiara said.
"I will leave Oakland once I am done with what I came here for. And as for the tunnel... I was only trying to ride my bike."
Dre left the girls in the park.
"You know... the girl of my dreams has always been you, Beam. But it will always stay in my dreams."
Kiara leaned in and kissed Beam one last time.
Then she stood up and left Beam alone in the park.
It was daytime when Beam finally opened her eyes. She had no idea how she had ended up in the parking lot.
She stood up, and the first place she went was the convenience store.
