Chapter 232: Where The Fuck Is My Girlfriend
My girlfriend planned a baby shower for me. I swear, I was fucking surprised.
I never expected it. I had never even thought about having a baby shower; it didn’t cross my mind at all. I stood entirely frozen just inside the doorway, my legs gluing themselves to the floor while the loud noise echoed through the room. My heart thudded hard in my chest, a sudden rush of warmth flooding through me as I blinked rapidly against the bright colors.
The moment I entered, everyone shouted, "Surprise!" popping party poppers as confetti rained down. Shiny blue, pink, orange and other colors ribbons floated down through the air, sticking to my hair and landing softly on my shoulders.
Everyone was here, my Redwood friends, my brother, Eriko, and even some people I didn’t know. The cottage living room was completely packed, voices buzzing all at once as people smiled and waved from behind the snack tables.
From being surprised, I became shy. My cheeks burned hot instantly, the sudden wave of all those eyes locking onto me making my throat tighten up.
I just kept covering my face from all the excitement and embarrassment. I pressed my palms over my eyes, letting out a nervous laugh while my shoulders shook under my jacket.
Still, my eyes searched for the person I knew was capable of pulling all of this off. I peeked through my fingers, my gaze scanning the crowded room, looking for that specific tall frame and dark hair.
"My goodness, you guys are amazing..." I said. My voice was a little shaky, a thick layer of emotion making it sound smaller than usual as I finally dropped my hands.
The first people to hug me were Sasha and Haley. These two had been with me just minutes ago. I thought they were going home, but they had known about the surprise all along. They lunged forward at the exact same time, wrapping their arms securely around my neck and squeezing tight while laughing in my ear.
Then my brother Paye hugged me warmly. He stepped in the moment they let go, his arms wrapping completely around my frame, pulling me against his chest with a steady pressure that always made me feel safe.
"I’m so happy for you, Puppy. I can’t wait to meet your little puppies," he said affectionately. He pulled back just enough to look down at me, his fingers resting gently on my shoulders as his eyes crinkled at the corners.
"Ohhh, you really are happy, aren’t you?" I said. I tilted my head, a wide smile breaking across my face as I nudged his ribs with my elbow.
Coming from the guy who wanted me to stay away from Alphas, this was surprising good for a change..
"Of course I am thrilled. Your girlfriend has proved herself worthy. I haven’t given her my blessing yet, but she’s going to be a good parent." He shrugged his shoulders, trying to sound tough, but the soft look in his eyes completely gave him away.
Well, at least he acknowledged her as my girlfriend. That alone was a massive victory, considering how much he used to glare whenever her name came up. freewёbnoνel.com
He handed me a gift box and touched my hair. I smiled at him, then realized he was growing a beard.
"Yo, are you growing a beard?" I asked, touching his once smooth baby face, now looking hairy. I poked his jaw with my index finger, scratching against the rough, new hair.
"Hey, no touching. Since I’m going to become an uncle, I have to look like one. How do I look, by the way?" He swatted my hand away playfully, tilting his head side to side while puffing out his chest.
My expression dropped completely, my eyebrows flattening as I stared at the dark patch on his skin.
"Just shave it off."
He kept touching his face, looking surprised. His jaw dropped slightly, his fingers tracing the scruff as if I had just insulted his prized possession.
"I thought you’d like it. You love Guru’s beard," he muttered. His shoulders slumped a bit, his voice turning into a small pout.
"Yeah, because it makes him look hot and his age. But you with a beard? You’re the opposite," I said with a sneer. I wrinkled my nose, letting out a short laugh at his offended expression.
Speaking of Guru... My eyes automatically scanned the room behind Paye, searching the corners near the kitchen.
"Is Guru not here?"
"I don’t know. I heard them saying he had work to take care of," he replied. He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, his eyes briefly flicking down toward the floor.
"Are you guys..." I trailed off, leaning in slightly as I watched his expression closely.
Knowing the two had been talking recently.
"No, we’re not back together," he said quickly. He crossed his arms over his chest, his words tumbling out fast as a dark blush crept up his neck.
"I wasn’t even going to say that."
I shook my head while he stared awkwardly at the ceiling. I actually was going to say that, but I changed my words just to get that reaction out of him. He rubbed the back of his neck, coughing quietly to clear the sudden awkwardness.
Then I spotted Ruger, Dave, Alex, and Katie. They were gathered near the giant swinging piñata in the room, holding bright gift bags and waving frantically to get my attention.
"There’s the mommy-to-be!" Katie sang out as I turned my attention to them. She bounded over instantly, her high heels clicking loudly against the floor.
"Yo guys, you’re here too." I smiled, stepping forward to meet them halfway.
"Yes, we are. Princess invited us. By the way Rolex and Stevie are currently with Guru. They started working for him recently, so they’re on a business trip," Alex said, offering me his gift with a smile. He pushed a heavy blue bag into my hands, his eyes crinkling with excitement.
"Oh, that’s good. They’ve always wanted to become part of his crew. I’m happy for them. Still, they should’ve made it. Especially Guru." I nodded, tucking the bag under my arm while a small pang of disappointment hit my chest. free𝑤ebnovel.com
"I don’t think Guru likes the idea of coming to Oakland. If the party had been somewhere else, I’m sure he would’ve made it," Katie said, handing me her present. She shrugged her shoulders casually, completely ignoring the sharp nudge Alex gave her.
"Katie!" the boys said, giving her a look. Dave’s eyes went wide, his jaw tightening as he glared at her to shut up.
"What? I’m just saying. Guru was home all week, but it had to be today that he needed to go out for work. Haven’t you noticed he never accepts any gig related to Oakland?" she added. She crossed her arms, entirely stubborn about her point.
Immediately, Dave pushed past her quickly, shoving a small wrapped box into my hands to block her from saying anything else.
"Yo, don’t mind what she’s saying. Guru has been very busy, and I’m sure he’d be here if he wasn’t. You know how hardworking Guru is. That man always takes his work seriously... hahaha."
I just stared at him and his obviously awkward laugh. He was sweating slightly, his fingers rubbing his neck while his eyes darted around the room.
Who the fuck laughs like that? The sound was completely fake, making my eyes narrow into sharp slits.
I can’t believe Guru purposely didn’t want to come. I’m going to call him later.
"And you must be wondering why I don’t have a gift for your pups. It’s outside," Ruger said. He pointed a thick thumb toward the door, a smirk playing on his lips.
"You brought me a goat, didn’t you?" I asked, my eyebrows raising.
That was the only present I could think of.. because it’s Ruger..
"Goats. Four goats for your four pups. My sister also gifted you four sheep and one hen for you. She’s still not happy about you cheating on her, but she wishes you all the best as you enter motherhood and hopes your girlfriend never runs dry.." He nodded dead seriously, as if leaving a mini zoo in Eriko’s backyard was completely normal.
I stared at him before replying, completely ignoring the cheating part because I don’t remember cheating on anyone or dating anyone. Thought she was over that Chapter.
"I really appreciate you being here. I never expected to see you all today. Group hug." I sighed, a sudden wave of gratitude washing over the annoyance.
Immediately, they all hugged me. They surged forward in a giant cluster, squishing me right in the middle until I could barely breathe through all the flying confetti.
I was happy to see them, including the ones who couldn’t make it.
My eyes became teary as I looked around at everyone. A hot sting hit the corners of my eyes, the tears blurred the bright balloons for a fraction of a second before I blinked them away.
The people I loved were all present, but...
Where was she?
The mastermind behind all of this.
"Where the fuck is my girlfriend?" I asked aloud, breaking out of the group hug and looking around the crowded room with a sharp, demanding gaze.
