Chapter 215: I Quit
Third Person
The lab was just another science lab trying to create a new form of drugs. Princess passed the people wearing white coats as she walked into a room. The space was similar to Princess’s gaming room, except it had more of an expensive gaming style. By the window was an office desk.
Princess looked to see her brother Leo watching the view outside the window. He was standing completely still, his hands tucked into his pockets, staring down at the city streets below as if he owned every single piece of it.
"Hey brother..." Princess called. Her voice cut through the quiet hum of the lab equipment, but her tone was careful, waiting to see what kind of mood he was in.
Leo didn’t say anything, his eyes were still outside the window. He didn’t even turn his head to acknowledge she had entered the room, the silence stretching out between them until it felt heavy and tight.
"Where were you last night?" he asked, but he didn’t wait for her reply. He continued, "Seven people’s families I have to compensate due to your negligence. I lost a lot because of that... my men and my money..." finally he turned to look at Princess. His face was completely stone-cold, his eyes narrowing as he locked his gaze onto her, his jaw tightly clenched with clear frustration.
"I’m sorry about what happened, it was unexpected. No one knew that there was going to be an attack last night..." Princess said, shifting her weight from one foot to the other.
"You have been dodging your duties lately. Whenever I check the screen I don’t see you monitoring the arena... you haven’t done anything at all..." Leo stepped away from the window, his boots clicking sharply against the floorboards as he walked over to his desk, leaning his palms flat against the dark wood.
"I have been working, I have people who work for me, and also I have a pregnant girlfriend I have to look after and I need to prepare before my pups arrive..." Princess said. She held her ground, her voice hardening a bit as she brought up Faye. She wasn’t going to let him make her feel guilty for prioritizing her actual family.
"You are not the only one who is expecting a baby in the world... millions of people are expecting and they still keep good performance in their various jobs... can’t you just hire people to take care of your girlfriend and pups so you can focus on my work..." Leo said, tapping his fingers on the table. The rhythmic clicking sound filled the room, a clear sign of how little patience he had left for her excuses.
"I’m not like you who thinks money can solve everything... Thanks to you, I learned that... your ex husband left you because you weren’t there for him... I don’t want to suffer that fate..." Princess said. The words came out sharp, cutting right through his professional attitude and hitting him exactly where it hurt the most.
"Rik leaving was his fault. I gave him everything, money, houses, vacations, whatever he asked for I gave him. Why? Because of the money..." he defended himself. His voice rose slightly, a rare flash of real anger breaking through his calm expression as he straightened up, his chest heaving.
"But you couldn’t give him your time... look, my girlfriend doesn’t look like someone who needs money and all that fancy stuff. Since we have been together she has never for once asked me to buy her expensive things or give her money... She just wants to be close to me, and the only time I spend money is when I buy food..." Princess said. She gestured with her hands, trying to make him see the stark difference between his failed life and what she was trying to build with Faye.
"See, you need money to buy food, diapers, rent nannies... you are having four pups, how are you going to take care of them when you don’t make money... Princess, money is king, without it we are nothing... since I can’t have power, money is all I want and you are making me lose it... first I am removing 20 percent from your salary and second find that girl and dispose of her... I don’t want her around my underground tunnel..." he said. He sat down in his chair, folding his arms across his chest with an unyielding look that showed he had already made up his mind.
Princess sat down on the chair opposite him, the physical weight of his words making her shoulders slump for a split second. "Don’t think we can dispose of her or whatever you meant by those words... Kiara said something about her... she is not a werewolf but a night walker..." she said. She leaned forward, resting her forearms on the edge of the desk, watching his reaction closely.
Leo’s face wore disbelief. The confident smirk completely vanished from his lips, his eyebrows drawing together in absolute shock.
"How is that possible? They are extinct..." he muttered, his fingers stopping their tapping completely as he stared at her, trying to find any sign that she was joking.
"Well there is one who happens to be not extinct. She ripped my heart out last night... I didn’t even hear her moving... Kiara was the one who made her leave..." Princess said. Her voice dropped low, the phantom feeling of her chest being torn open making her pulse quicken for a second.
"How sure are you that that girl is some night walker?" Leo asked, his posture shifting as he took in the sheer seriousness of the situation.
"Kiara said so." Princess shrugged lightly, knowing that when it came to ancient lore or recognizing old bloodlines, Kiara was never wrong.
Hearing that, he quickly believed it, there was no doubt. The Petrova family knew their history, and if Kiara had flagged the intruder as a night walker, then the danger to their underground operation was entirely real.
"You have to find a way to get rid of her, she will become an obstacle in my business..." Leo said. He rubbed his chin, his mind already shifting back to the numbers and the logistics of keeping his clubs and race secure from a literal myth.
"Yes, put your only sister on the front line while you sit down and watch..." Princess said, a bitter laugh escaping her throat as she shook her head at his immediate reaction.
"That is why I pay you, you are one of my highest paid workers here..." Leo said defensively, waving his hand as if the salary alone was enough to cover the risk of her getting her heart torn out again.
"Can you stop it, you really are money starved... all you think about is money... I just told you my heart was ripped out and you didn’t even care about it..." Princess said as her emotions changed, longing for her brother’s care. A sudden lump formed in her throat, the cold reality of his indifference hitting her right in the center of her chest. "You both claim to love me but none of you care about my feelings... he wants power and you want money... why can’t you two just be my brothers for once... you two just want to be the next Alpha, not caring about the people around you... I am your sister..." Princess said, trying to control her tears from falling. She squeezed her eyes shut for a brief second, her hands gripping the armrests tight to stop them from shaking as the raw frustration boiled over.
Leo was just quiet, trying to find the words to say. He shifted uncomfortably in his seat, his gaze dropping down to the documents on his desk, completely paralyzed by the sudden emotional outburst from his usually tough sister. ƒreewebɳovel.com
Princess stood up, pulling herself together with a sharp, deep breath that steadied her shaking shoulders.
"You know what, I don’t think I can work for you anymore... find someone else to make money for you... I quit." Princess said, leaving his office.
