Chapter 183: Meeting Guru

Princess told me about meeting Guru in Blackjack during the time I was kidnapped. Guru invited us to come stay with him for the weekend, and honestly, I was thrilled. Of course, I informed my brother about the trip. He did not like the fact that I am going to meet Guru. He didn’t forbid it, though; he just said I should be careful. Well, guess I am not going to witness Paye’s wrath this time, which was a relief. I didn’t want any more drama hanging over my head.

Seeing the snow was a good sign we were close to Redwood. It started as thin flurries and quickly turned into a thick, white blanket covering the trees and the road. Then we passed the signboard: Welcome To Redwood. I smiled, the excitement bubbling up in my chest. I couldn’t help myself, putting my head outside the window to feel the bite of the cold. Even if the entire car rooftop was wide open, with the snow falling inside the car and landing on the leather seats, my head was still out. I wanted to breathe it all in. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

When the ride started and the moment Princess child-locked the window, I had a sudden surge of panic. I told her to roll the windows down, every single one of them, right now. Seeing them up reminded me of the time Yuki kidnapped me, the feeling of being trapped inside the car, my whole body being numb and helpless. The walls felt like they were closing in just looking at the glass. So Princess opened the entire roof instead just so I could calm down. She didn’t argue or ask questions; she just hit the button and let the winter air flood the cabin. She had to put on several coats due to the cold, looking like a giant bundle of fabric behind the steering wheel, but she didn’t complain once as long as I was breathing easy.

We got to Guru’s house in the morning, around 7. The sun was just starting to peek over the snowy peaks, turning the white landscape into a glowing orange. We would have gotten there like 3 hours earlier, but we made multiple stops along the way. I couldn’t help it; seeing all those different midnight street foods and snacks made me hungry every twenty miles, and also I had to pee constantly. Princess was patient, pulling over at every gas station and roadside stand without a sigh.

The moment I saw Guru outside the house, he was already waiting for us, leaning against a wooden porch railing. I shouted his name, waving at him from the car like a little kid. He stood up straight, a big grin breaking out across his face as he recognized us.

The moment the car stopped, I opened the door. I would have jumped out of it if I wasn’t heavily pregnant, but my body had other plans, making me move much slower than my mind wanted. Before I could pick up the pace or even find my footing in the snow, Guru got to me first.

"Oh oh oh, careful there lad..." he laughed as we shared a warm welcome hug. He smelled like pine needles and old leather, a familiar scent that made me feel safe instantly.

"I missed you, Guru," I said, hugging him tight. I squeezed his shoulders, feeling the solid strength he always carried. When we finally stopped hugging, he stepped back and stared at me, then his eyes darted down to my stomach, widening in surprise.

"I see a lot has changed during these past few months..." he said, gesturing toward the bump.

"Yes, and you have shaved your beard and grown hair..." I said back, pointing at his head. The last time I saw Guru, he liked being bald with beards, looking like a tough guy from an action movie. Now he has black hair and his face looked so much younger now, almost like a different person. We both laughed at each other, the sound echoing through the quiet morning air. At least he still has his personality, that loud, booming energy that filled up the space around him.

Princess made a small cough repeatedly, trying to notify us that she was also present. She was standing by the car door, looking a bit awkward and out of place in this rugged setting. I looked at her, holding her arm to pull her closer, then at Guru.

"Guru, this is Princess Kings... my girlfriend and the mother of my pups..." I said happily. I beamed with pride, wanting him to see how great she was.

Guru looked at Princess, then darkened his face, shifting his posture instantly. He was trying to act like some overprotective father, the kind you see in movies before a big confrontation.

He placed his hand on Princess’s shoulder, trying to be intimidating, looming over her slightly.

"Young lady, what have you done to my daughter?" he said with a bold, deep voice that seemed to rumble in the ground.

Princess just stared at him, her eyes wide, then she glanced at me. I was busy looking up at the morning sky, pretending not to notice the interrogation, though I was secretly enjoying the show.

"I haven’t done anything to her," Princess said slowly, looking confused. She wasn’t used to people talking to her like this, especially not strangers who looked like they lived in the woods.

"Oh, I see... so now you are denying that you aren’t the one who knocked my daughter..." he said, stepping even closer.

"I am not denying anything..." Princess replied, her voice regaining some of its usual Alpha steel. She stood her ground, even if she didn’t quite know the rules of this game Guru was playing.

"What are your intentions with her? You are not the kind to use her as some pup bearer and marry someone else?" he said, his eyes narrowing.

"Obviously not... I love her and wish to spend my entire life with her... only her, no one else..." Princess said with a straight face. She didn’t blink, her gaze locked onto Guru’s. The honesty in her voice was so sharp it almost made me tear up right there in the snow.

"Spend the rest of your life with her... we should be discussing about dowry instead of dating, huh..." Guru said in an intimidating tone, though I could see a tiny flicker of a smile trying to hide under his expression.

"I am ready now for marriage, but your daughter is not... Look here, Mr. Guru, I love her. Marriage or not, I will always stand by her side till the end..." Princess said. She sounded so grown up, so sure of herself, that for a second I forgot she was the same girl who just burnt pancakes a few days ago.

Guru drifted back to me like some detective who had just cracked a difficult case. He leaned in close to my ear.

"This kind of Alpha is rare, you better hold on to her tightly, okay..." he muttered to me.

"Obviously... I won a lottery ticket... she is my precious gem, not going to let anyone have her..." I said back as we both stared at Princess like she was some case subject under a microscope. She just stood there, looking between us with a raised eyebrow, wondering what we were whispering about.

"Okay, I have to head out, see you later in the day... Princess Kings, welcome to Redwood..." Guru said, finally breaking the act. He gave her a nod of approval, welcoming Princess properly as he entered a jeep with two of his men. The engine roared to life, puffing out a cloud of exhaust before he drove off down the snowy path.

"Okay, your dad-friend is definitely different from the last time I met him..." Princess said as she watched Guru drive off. She took a deep breath, finally relaxing her shoulders.

"Don’t worry, the way he acted means he likes you..." I said, giving her a reassuring pat on the back. Princess nodded, though she still looked a little stunned, then she opened the car boot, bringing out the suitcases and setting them in the snow.

"So where is your room...?" Princess asked, looking up at the large house.

"It’s upstairs..." I muttered. My heart skipped a beat as I quickly remembered the state of my old room. I hadn’t been there in ages, and I had a sudden image of evil posters from a fake idol, and things I definitely didn’t want her to see yet. I have to clear some things before I allow Princess into my room.
