Chapter 102: Princess Apologize

Well, at least I know what to do next. My brain was already spinning with a new mission: find info about the Moon Wolf. I couldn’t shake the feeling that, in some kind of way, it had something to do with this weird connection I had with Peamah and Sasha. It felt like a missing piece of a puzzle I didn’t even know I was solving yet.

A little while later, I was back at the shop, leaning against the counter. Uncle PP was not around. He was over at a customer’s house to deliver a package, which meant the place was quiet, so I had to wait until he got back to officially start my shift.

I pulled out my phone, immediately browsing for any clue about what a Moon Wolf actually was. I scrolled through page after page, but I had no luck. It was all just generic cookie sites, and one result even used the name as a domain for something totally unrelated. There was no real info about it anywhere.

The silence of the shop started to get to me. I was bored. Kali, the snake, had crawled up onto the wood and curled up on the counter, sleeping right beside me like a scaly paperweight. My mind started to wander. From searching Moon Wolf, I eventually drifted over to my DMs with Princess. I wanted to check if she was online or if she had sent any messages while I was at the library. But no, she hadn’t sent anything at all.

Really. At least she should have sent a Hi or something. I stared at the screen, feeling a little pang in my chest. Is she mad at me?

Maybe I was being too hard on her. I chewed on my lip, thinking back to our fight. I’m supposed to be comforting her, not getting angry at her like that. She’s going through a lot too. She has been trying so hard to get my brother’s approval, and he has been cutting her off every single time. It has to be frustrating for her. But then I remembered the way she talked about him, and the heat returned to my face. I still can’t stand it when someone calls him names.

When I see her tomorrow, I will talk to her. I’ll make it right.

Later on, the bells above the door jingled and Uncle PP finally came back from wherever he went. He walked in with that same quiet, mustache face as always, not saying a word as he set his things down. frёewebnoѵēl.com

I tried to pay him the 50 dollars I owed for being late, but he just shook his head. Since he refused to take the money, he made me exchange the debt by having me look after the shop on Sunday because he was going out of town. So yes, on Sunday I’m working, and I’m also babysitting the snake. I let out a heavy sigh. He should have just collected the 50 dollars. Who the fuck wants to work on weekends?

Finally, it was time for me to go home. I removed my apron, feeling the tired muscles in my shoulders, and hung it up on the hook. Before I walked out, I decided to take a chance and ask him if he knew anything.

"Uncle PP, do you know about a wolf called the Moon Wolf?" I asked, trying to sound casual. freewebnøvel.coɱ

He was busy feeding Kali a bit of chocolate, and he paused for a second to look at me. He studied my face for a moment before continuing what he was doing.

"Why do you want to know about the Moon Wolf?" he asked in his usual calm tone.

"I heard someone talking about it, and I saw it at the Petrova Library," I said quickly. I didn’t want to tell him about the hotel event. My brother and Eriko don’t know about it yet. I haven’t told them that some were-witch kid tried to kill me and everyone. No, I don’t want to put worries in their minds when they already have enough to deal with.

"They say the Moon Wolf is the rarest of all werewolves," he said, his voice dropping a bit. "Every quincentennial, they are reincarnated. Said to be the direct descendants of the Moon Goddess."

"What if someone calls you a Moon Wolf...." I started, the question burning in my throat, but he cut me off before I could finish.

"The first sign of recognizing a Moon Wolf is by their fur. They are born with white hair. And it’s a myth. No one has seen an actual Moon Wolf."

I nodded slowly, absorbing his words. I wished him goodnight, then pushed through the door and decided to go home.

As I walked down the darkening street, I couldn’t get those words out of my mind. Moon Wolf. For a moment, a crazy thought crossed my mind. I thought I might be some kind of Moon Wolf. But then I shook my head, laughing at myself. That’s impossible. I was born with brown hair, just like my brother and Kaye. We all have brown hair. There isn’t a white strand on any of us.

But still, the curiosity wouldn’t go away. I have to find out more about this. It might have something to do with my connection with Peamah and Sasha. There had to be a reason Bruno used that specific name.

I was almost at the cottage, the familiar trees coming into view, when I walked past a blue car parked on the side of the road. I stopped immediately because I recognized the model right away. Then, the scent hit me.

It was one of Princess’s cars.

The scent was strong, which meant she was definitely inside. I walked over and knocked on the glass of the window. It took a while, the mechanism whirring quietly, before it finally rolled down. She was sitting in the driver’s seat, hunched over and playing a game on her phone.

I wanted to smile. I was so relieved that she was here, but then I remembered I was supposed to be angry with her. I stiffened my shoulders and kept a straight face.

"Hi," she said the moment our eyes met. She looked a little tired, but her eyes brightened when she saw me.

I leaned in, resting my arms on the door frame to take a proper look at her.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, trying to sound tougher than I felt.

"I came to see you," she said, giving me a small smile.

"Why?"

"Because I came to see you. And you are my mate friend who is carrying my pups," she said, her voice soft.

"Why didn’t you text me?" I asked, my frown deepening.

Damn. I’m already breaking character. I could feel my resolve melting just by looking at her.

"You don’t reply when you’re angry, so I didn’t bother texting," she said, looking down at her lap for a second. "And about what happened in the classroom today... calling your brother the R word... I’ll try not to do that again. Sorry."

She said the words slowly, like she had been practicing them over and over in her head before I showed up.

Staring at her face made me rethink my whole act. I looked at the way she was looking at me, and I realized I might have overreacted.

"I’m also sorry for the way I acted. I shouldn’t have done that either," I said, letting out a breath I’d been holding. "But I really don’t like it when someone calls my brother names. All his life, people have called him names, and he doesn’t react. He just takes it and stays quiet. I hate that."

I could feel the old anger bubbling up again, but not at her. I have seen so many people look down on Paye because of his omega status. He’s the boy whose father abandoned him with a two year old child. People called him the immoral omega. That’s what triggered me to keep a punching list in the first place. I wanted to punch them all. I wanted to be my brother’s voice when he wouldn’t speak up for himself.

"Okay, I won’t call your brother rude," Princess said, her smile widening.

Then, she reached into a small cooler in the passenger seat and held up a popsicle right in front of my face.

That made me break. The cold air from the treat hit my skin, and I couldn’t hold back my smile anymore. It was impossible to stay mad at her when she was being like this.
