Chapter 119: Chapter 101: I’m the Man Who Will Be the Sheep King
The next morning.
Looking out the window, the entire world was a vast expanse of white.
"Sir." Chen Fei immediately walked over when he saw Su Chen coming downstairs.
"Hm? What is it?" Su Chen asked, looking at him quizzically. ’He looks like something’s on his mind.’
"Sir, I checked the weather forecast last night. It’s going to snow in the north for the next few days, which will make travel especially inconvenient!"
"Besides, it’s about 620 kilometers from the Imperial Capital to Xilinhot, the capital of Xilinguole League. The drive takes six or seven hours, and the roads aren’t very safe in this snow. Why don’t you just let me and Xiao Peng handle buying the sheep? We promise to do a perfect job!"
Su Chen looked at Chen Fei’s earnest expression, smiled, and patted his shoulder. "Who told you I’m only going to buy sheep? If it was just for a few sheep, why wouldn’t I just have Li Fei send them directly to me?"
Chen Fei seemed to have an epiphany at his words, but his perspective was ultimately too narrow. He thought for a long time but still couldn’t figure out why Su Chen wanted to go to Xilinguole League in person.
"Alright, you and Xiao Peng go give the car a thorough check. We don’t want any trouble on the road!"
"Yes, Sir!" Now that he knew Su Chen had other business to attend to, Chen Fei realized his earlier worries had been unnecessary.
Watching Chen Fei’s departing figure, Su Chen nodded in satisfaction. At least now Chen Fei was thinking for himself, not like the puppet he used to be, who only did what he was told.
"Old Jiang, Chen Fei and Xiao Peng are pretty good. Guide them a little more in your spare time. They’ll be able to take on great responsibilities in the future," Su Chen said softly.
Having appeared behind Su Chen at some point, Jiang Hui... softly uttered, "Mm."
---
"Is everything checked?" Jiang Hui asked, looking at Chen Fei and Xiao Peng standing by the car.
"Everything’s checked. We can leave at any time!" Chen Fei replied immediately.
"Alright. Sir said not to rush. Drive slowly, safety is the top priority!" After saying this, Jiang Hui went to inform Su Chen they were ready to depart.
Perhaps heaven knew Su Chen and his group were traveling, as the snow unexpectedly stopped.
"Huh, they clear the snow pretty fast here!" As the car drove onto the overpass, they found the road was surprisingly clean, with almost no snow on it.
Looking out, they could see sanitation workers on both sides of the road, working with street sweepers to clear the remaining snow.
"What can you do? This is the Imperial Capital. If they don’t clear it promptly, it looks bad!" Chen Fei said without turning his head, focused on driving.
Su Chen understood the reasoning. Different places have different ways of handling things. Besides, the north had long since developed an effective system for dealing with snow, allowing them to clear the roads quickly.
It was completely different from what Su Chen had expected. He thought everyone would be driving slowly because of the snow, or that there would even be accidents like cars skidding.
But in the end... the road was cleaned remarkably well. Aside from the snow piled up on the sides, it was no different from a summer day.
The journey was smooth sailing, with no traffic jams caused by the snow. Still, for safety’s sake, Su Chen had Chen Fei and Xiao Peng drive a little slower.
They stopped at three or four service areas to rest, turning the six-hour journey into a full nine before they finally arrived in Xilinhot. Surprisingly, it hadn’t started snowing there yet, but the wind was bone-chillingly cold.
It was already eight o’clock at night. There were hardly any pedestrians, and only a few cars drove along the roads.
As the capital city of Xilinguole League, Xilinhot’s urban area wasn’t very large. There weren’t many skyscrapers; aside from a few high-rises in the commercial district, the rest of the buildings were only a few stories tall.
"Have you arranged a place for us to stay tonight?"
After sitting in the car for so many hours, even with the breaks at the highway service areas, Su Chen still felt a wave of exhaustion.
"Sir, it’s all been arranged. The Yunhe Hotel. It’s considered the best five-star hotel in Xilinhot!" Jiang Hui immediately turned his head and said.
Su Chen nodded slightly at his words, then took out his phone and sent a message to Ji Wan, telling him which hotel he was staying at.
He had just sent it and hadn’t even put his phone down when a call came in.
"Mr. Su, you’ve already arrived in Xilinhot?" The caller was none other than Ji Wan.
"Mhm, we’re on our way to the hotel now!"
"Okay, Mr. Su, I’ll wait for you at the Yunhe Hotel!" he said before hanging up, sounding like he was in a great hurry.
Su Chen looked at the disconnected call, a faint smile playing on his lips.
...
Ji Wan was indeed in a hurry. He was pacing back and forth at the hotel entrance, braving the cold wind as he looked around.
He couldn’t remember a time Brother Cheen had ever personally called and told him to treat a guest with such importance. This Mr. Su was the first.
On top of that, when Xiao Chen had called him, he had cryptically mentioned that Su Chen could help them solve the Wuzhumuqin sheep problem. These two points alone were enough to make him take this matter extremely seriously.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have immediately called, then driven over the moment he saw Su Chen’s message.
He scrutinized every car that pulled up to the hotel entrance.
Xiao Chen hadn’t sent him a photo, only saying, "When you meet him, you’ll definitely recognize him."
The nights in Xilinhot were quite cold. A gust of wind blew past, making even a hardy man from Inner Mongolia like him shiver.
