Chapter 117: Chapter 100: Going to Great Lengths for a Bite to Eat
"A timely snow promises a fruitful year!"
The first snow of the season arrived in the Imperial Capital without a sound.
The falling snow outside the window had already painted the entire courtyard white, and a thick layer had piled up on the small stone pavers.
A look of delight appeared in Su Chen’s eyes. He immediately changed into some warm clothes and went downstairs.
It was no wonder Su Chen was so excited. Having grown up in the southwest, he had never truly seen it snow before. After all, people from Wudu are completely powerless against two things: snow and the sea.
They had a particular soft spot for snow.
As soon as he got downstairs, he saw Jiang Hui, Chen Fei, and Xiao Peng sitting in the living room, chatting as they brewed tea over a stove.
"Sir!" Seeing Su Chen, the three of them quickly rose from their chairs.
Su Chen waved his hand at them and hurried outside.
Judging by his haste, they thought he was off to handle something important and quickly followed him.
When they reached the central courtyard, they found Su Chen holding a handful of snow, grinning from ear to ear.
Jiang Hui and Xiao Peng, in particular, just stared at each other in utter confusion, completely baffled by Su Chen’s behavior.
"Is this the first time Sir has seen snow?" Jiang Hui muttered, perplexed.
"Probably," Xiao Peng chimed in. "Otherwise, he wouldn’t be acting like this. After all, it snows here every winter. We’re used to it."
"That must be it. It basically never snows in Wudu, only on a few high mountains far from the city. It’s perfectly normal that he’s never seen it!"
Of the men present, only Chen Fei truly understood how Su Chen felt, as his own hometown wasn’t far from Wudu.
"WOOHOO~"
While the three were still talking, a snowball flew right into their midst and smacked Jiang Hui.
Before they could react, two more snowballs came flying, hitting Chen Fei and Xiao Peng.
Seeing all three snowballs hit their mark, Su Chen put his hands on his hips and laughed boisterously in the snow, looking incredibly smug.
"Come on, snowball fight!"
Hearing Su Chen’s challenge, Xiao Peng, being the youngest and most playful, immediately stepped forward to join in.
But he had barely taken two steps when two voices behind him sealed his fate.
"I’m on Sir’s team!" came two voices in unison.
Xiao Peng’s cheerful steps halted instantly. He turned around just in time to see two snowballs flying straight at him.
THWACK! THWACK! As Xiao Peng watched helplessly, both snowballs hit him squarely on the forehead.
"Aaaah! Sir, save me!" Xiao Peng cried out, hoping Su Chen would come to his rescue...
But his only answer was another snowball.
Seeing no other choice, Xiao Peng accepted his one-on-three fate, stooped to make some snowballs, and started to fight back.
He certainly didn’t dare to throw any at Su Chen, so he aimed for Chen Fei and Old Jiang instead.
At first, the situation was quite orderly, with Su Chen and the other two ganging up on Xiao Peng. But then someone—no one knew who—threw a snowball at Su Chen, and the scene quickly devolved into chaos.
By the end, Su Chen himself had been hit five or six times by snowballs thrown in the chaotic free-for-all.
They played for about half an hour until everyone’s clothes were soaked through. The great snowball war only came to an end when Su Chen finally called a truce.
After returning to his room for a hot shower, Su Chen ambled back down to the first-floor living room.
Jiang Hui and the others had already showered and changed, and were now sitting by the stove. When they saw Su Chen approach, they quickly handed him a bowl of ginger soup prepared by Aunt Tang.
"Well now, who was so thoughtful to arrange for ginger soup?" Su Chen took the bowl and downed it in one gulp.
Chen Fei and Xiao Peng both turned to look at Jiang Hui.
"Sir, it was the least I could do."
Su Chen glanced at Jiang Hui and nodded in satisfaction. ’He really pays attention to the details,’ he thought.
......
Gazing at the snow, which was now falling even harder, Chen Fei remarked with a sigh, "It’s really coming down today. Looks like the Imperial Capital is in for another heavy winter!"
"Winter is great! It’s perfect for mutton hot pot. That mutton you brought back last time was amazing, Sir," Xiao Peng said, licking his lips at the mere memory of the taste.
Su Chen’s interest was piqued. He didn’t have many hobbies, but when it came to food, he was a true foodie.
’It has been a while since I’ve had mutton,’ Su Chen muttered under his breath.
The three men sitting beside him heard every word, and a flash of excitement appeared in their eyes. After all, who doesn’t love a good meal?
After a moment’s thought, Su Chen was about to arrange for someone to go to Li Fei’s hot pot restaurant in the suburbs and bring back a whole Wuzhumuqin sheep. But when he looked up, he was met with three pairs of expectant eyes.
"So, you all want mutton hot pot?" Su Chen asked, a teasing look on his face.
"Mhm! We do!" Xiao Peng nodded so vigorously it looked like he was pounding garlic.
"Alright, then."
Su Chen then made the arrangements. Since Chen Fei, Xiao Peng, and Li Fei were all former comrades-in-arms and got along well, he sent the first two to drive out to the suburbs.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Chen Fei and Xiao Peng took the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and set off.
"Sir," Jiang Hui said from the side, "should we consider buying an SUV? It’s not very convenient to take the Rolls-Royce out in this heavy snow."
"An SUV?"
Su Chen thought about it. Old Jiang had a point. An SUV would be more convenient for driving around the city or traveling to neighboring areas.
"Alright. You take care of it. Just let me know the cost, and I’ll cover it."
Although Su Chen hadn’t specified a price range, Old Jiang already had a good idea of what to do. ’It definitely can’t be something in the hundreds of thousands range,’ he thought. ’Driving a car that cheap would be an embarrassment to the boss.’
